I called your opinion that he's not a good enough defender to play in our top four horse dung, yes. He absolutely can and does consistently defend. He plays top PK minutes and 25 minutes a night in Montreal and is relied on as their number 1 offensively and defensively. Again, he's much better than being given credit for. RIGHT NOW. On this roster, with Staal, McDonagh and Girardi, he's MORE than defensively capable enough that he wouldn't be a liability on one of those pairings. He's just a much better defender than you want to acknowledge. That's fine; I could give a crap less what you actually think of him, but if you think him playing second pairing minutes next to Staal, he would be a defender who "can't defend" than you are just massively biased. As for why would we trade for him? We won't. These are called DISCUSSION boards. Somebody ELSE brought up Subban and he's being DISCUSSED. I'm just joining in the discussion, not phoning Sather and begging him to make a trade. We're discussing what kind of fit he would be, what he would cost, how he would effect the team. I have my opinion and you have yours. In my opinion, saying Subban is just "a lot of potential" right now is absolutely ridiculous. He's already been an all-star. He's scoring 35 points a year in his early 20s while being relied upon as THE top defensive option on his team. I hardly think that's "just potential". He has the potential to be EVEN BETTER, but he's already an extremely good defenseman. I guess that's where our opinions differ, but that's just too bad. I think I'm going to take these boards very sparingly this season.
