Rumor: Trade Rumour Thread I: Post-Lockout Madness

Where do you guys come up with this stuff? Dallas has the money to pay Jamie Benn. The issue is Benn does not want a long term deal. He wants a 3 year deal. 5 Max. He wants Jeff Skinner dollars in a 5 year deal and not the 6 years Skinner got. Dallas wants a cheaper deal for 5 years. They won't give him Skinner money for 5 years. They will give it to him for 6 but Benn doesn't want 6.

If the Rangers could bring in Subban they have to do it. There are (3) players on the entire team I would make unavailable. McDonagh, Hank and Nash. Everyone else is available. Obviously losing Girardi or Staal would make it more of a lateral move.

Subban is already a #1 d-man and his combination of snarl, offensive skills and skating make him easily worth 4+ million a year on a long-term deal.

Staal straight up for Subban?

Thank you for being a voice of reason here.

I don't know if I would do Staal for Suppan. Suppan might have more upside at the moment, but Staal is comfortable with the system, with the team and you know what you'll get with him.

They're not yet blowing anything up is what I mean... they're still trying to compete with their roster and add to it. That much was pretty clear during this off-season. Not saying it won't change quickly if they don't do well.

I really don't know much about them beyond that, so perhaps I'm off base about Sarich. I thought he was a decent part of their blue line, one they wouldn't want to move right now unless it was really worthwhile to do so.

Edit: LOLOLOLOL.

LOL

I only used the "LOL's" because it was too funny to read that we'd have to overpay for Sarich. In fact I think he's been a healthy scratch the first two games unless he has a nagging injury. He won't cost much. He shouldn't cost a 2nd round pick like someone else suggested.

Regardless of Calgary's moves in the offseason, ownership may see them as in a win now mode, but it is certainly not an imposing roster.

It seems that the Flames believe they are win now mode as per their involvement in the past off-season.

The flames have been in win now mode for several years. They just don't realize that they have no chance of winning anything now. That team is too old. Iginla will be long gone by the time they are relevant again.

Would absolutely love to get Subban, and Pruster back. New cap rules allow for salary retention. Would do the following.

Subban, Prust (at 1.25 cap hit)

Stralman, Asham, Skjei, Thomas.

I doubt MTL would even sniff at this, but they get a guy to play now, Subban is not in the line up RHD, with PP ability, Asham to replace toughness, and the price the Rangers pay are a 1st and 2nd round prospects that have been developing in an organization that has churned out some good ones. MTL has frighteningly bad depth in their org, and have a guy in PK Subban that they have to overpay to keep.

MTL doesn't have to wait on the unknown in draft picks, and the Rangers get their top 4 offensive RHD that they've been looking for. And a get back piece of what made them who they are.

As long as PK signs under the Staal contract.

Not sure if serious....

Reality is they won with Jeff freaking Woywitka in the lineup last yr. Only thing I would change on this team is the 6th Dman and well that can wait till the deadline even, its really just important for the playoffs...........and yes this team will be making the playoffs, its only 2 games

They like Bickel cause he's tough and can play 4th line wing in a pinch as well like tonight. I personally feel better Eminger on D so lets see what he can do. If he then sucks they turn to Gilroy and then likely go back and forth between the 3 until someone is consistent. Its why they have 3 D competing for one spot.

So in closing the Rangers wont panic , they will wait this out BUT by the deadline they will have a rental Dman at the very least acquired.

Sub in Staal for Skjei and it looks about even. But they don't want Asham. They don't want to give up Prust. And I doubt they're interested in more small offensive players.

Spot on
Totally agree with this analysis
Bringing in a guy like Murray on D (halfway through season) and maybe someone like Morrow/Ryder (depending on need) up front would be very nice at the deadline
I would still consider signing one of P Sykora, D Moore, Langkow or J Blake :amazed: as a depth spare asap. If they are available for cheap on a one season deal and willing to play a la Torts. We need more NHL fwd depth.

why would we trade our young allstar defenseman for Subban?

A guy who is holding out to get paid.

NO THANKS.

Do I like Subban? sure, woud i trade actual assets and then pay him what he wants? hell no.

I still don't understand the logic behind trading a D-man for Subban. Seems lateral at absolute best. Everyone complains about the 6th D-man but you ain't changing anything with the above.

The big thing is that he's a RD, whereas we're overloaded on LD currently. That said, I'm not interested.

As I said last night, Sharks today will agree to terms with Scott Gomez on one-year, $700,000 (pro-rated) deal

I really dislike how venomous our fan base is towards most players who aren't Rangers. Subban is a lockerroom cancer? Where is that information coming from? Wouldn't take him on the team for free? Subban is probably overrated on these boards overall, but he's underrated on ours, that's for sure. In my humble opinion, overall, he is roughly twice the defenseman that Del Zotto is. I think Subban is miles better defensively than you guys give him credit for. That doesn't mean I don't think he gets overrated on the main boards either; it means I think the truth is in the middle and you guys absolutely shred him when he really is a developing stud. He has the offensive talent to produce more than he has. He plays HUGE minutes. He is steady enough defensively to be a top pair defender (ESPECIALLY with a guy like Staal or McDonagh on his left) and if he were on our second pairing (assume McD+G/Staal+Subban) we would literally have THE deepest top four in all of hockey, hands down (plus they could play about 50 minutes a night between them). He can play on the top PK and PP. He can give you 25 minutes a night. He hits. He'll fight. He'll score. He can create his own offense. And he's got plenty of time to keep getting better. I would consider moving MDZ for him if our third pairing wouldn't be so bad after the fact. I would give up a decent package of prospects/picks for him if it would get the job done. I would take him on this team 100/100 times. Do you realize how much he would thrive simply by going from being leaned on 25 minutes a night as THE main defensive option, since the age of 21, to being one of four guys who can all play that role? How much that could open up his game, both offensively and in terms of taking pressure off him defensively and allowing him to improve on his decision making?

I'd consider something like

MDZ + 2nd + Thomas (I'd add if necessary) for Subban + Emelin or Weber, so that we'd have a reasonable third pairing guy coming back as well.

They're pretty venomous to players who are Rangers.

I'll say it again, why on earth would you take on Subban whose going to want like 5 mil a year, and trade away a pretty nice contract in MDZ? it makes zero sense.

do people NOT want Ryan McDonagh locked up long term? Do people not want to see Derek Stepan, Chris Kreider, Carl Hagelin, Marian Gaborik, Ryan Callahan, Henrik Lundqvist all signed here?

The cap is a real issue, we cant afford to be taking on new contract like that.

KEEP THIS TEAM AS IS.

Was just thinking the same thing, and usually overtly biased to how much better similar players would be if they have a different jersey.

Anyway, the person you're responding to originally offered Staal for Subban, which is silly on this team. He amended it with a package around Del Zotto, which is much more feasible. Im glad this major shift didnt get in the way of a lecture, however.
