Cally has a reduced role. No PP time. Doesn't start the PK, and the second line even strength is pretty bad this year.

It's all not going in his favor.

I hope he thinks things over and takes the deal. Otherwise you gotta get something back for him.

Crossing my fingers he doesn't. But he probably will. Thats about as good as he was going to get from Slats.

$6M x 5 is definitely fair. No doubt he could likely get more. But that is a more than fair offer. Borderline too much to be honest.

If that is indeed on the table I would actually put it on a coin flip that they keep him.

I would be thrilled with that return. This is going to be sacrilege to the Callahan fan club, but, IMO, Callahan holds more value as a trip chip right now than his actual play on the ice.

Agreed. Couple that with a reduced role on the team and it makes more sense to move him. Really depends on what other teams are interested. Still think Buffalo might try and jump out ahead of the pack and get him before he tests the market.

I don't want to see him go. I hope he takes the deal. He's been a big part of this franchise and our hearts for the last eight years. But it's a business.

We all see what happens when teams are too loyal. Islanders didn't trade their 80s core players. They got a minimal return for Tonneli and let the rest of those guys retire.

Devils made a smart move breaking up a declining A-Line and trading McCkay and Arnott for Langenbrunner and Niewendyk and won a Cup.

I feel a player like Fast combined with someone like a Zucker/Nieto can take over that Callahan role on this team and while it'll never be the same, young cheap assets are necessary in this NHL.

Grigorenko and the Isles #1, please!

If they could get him for 5X5, I would like for him to stay. But that was never going to happen. Cally has to think that this contract may very well be it for him. He has to maximize the money. I do not hold that against him. But the Rangers shouldn't pay it.

If a team is able to sign him, I'd expect very high end prospect, young NHL player and 1st is reasonable.

The best news to come out of this is Sather letting teams talk to him early, not 15 minutes before the March deadline and just taking the best rental offer.

Sather already has this stuff lined up. This stuff almost never really goes down to a last minute scramble. Even if it may seem to go down to the wire.

6 mil x 5 is more than generous. I'd take the money and run but then again I live in a one bedroom apartment and drive a 2004 ford focus so anything sounds good haha.

None of the teams Cally's agent has talked with have offered more that Slats.

For a reason. Sather isn't going to give teams like Buffalo or Florida the rights to talk to him. Sather's offer is the best one on the table, and he's going to keep it that way until it's trade time.

Even if he is gone, I don't see any way at all he negotiates and accepts a deal before the deadline. Not. Gonna. Happen.

No reason to get our tires spun, Callahan is going to return rental value, so mid to late 1st at best, and/or solid prospect.

Personally, I'm not thrilled about that. The last time the NYR fire sold, amassing picks and prospects for our talent, we wound up with practically nothing noteworthy. I'd prefer to see Callahan negotiate a fair value deal here and remain Captain.

yeah, me too but i live in a one bedroom apartment and drive a 1999 honda accord. lol

6 x 5 is a totally reasonable offer. but there are always teams willing to offer unreasonable offers.

I just don't understand Sather letting other teams talk to Cally. One of this first instances I heard of something similar to this. I get that sign + trade, but still.

If Brooks is right, and they want this done before the freeze which is 3 PM Friday, I wonder if they would sit Cally on Tuesday or Thursday.

Next three days should be interesting with no games.
