Callahan, evidently, feels he owes NYR nothing and has not a dollar's worth of extra loyalty to the club.

Callahan doesn't own the Rangers anything. He has every right to go out there and get the best contract he can get, just like the Rangers have every right not to give him the contract he wants.

I will miss him if he's traded though. I might not be his biggest fan, but it's very hard to imagine this team without him.

HAHAHAHA Callahan's been finishing checks and blocking shots for peanuts. Now he wants his pay day, good for him. Under the current CBA young players get screwed.

Why should any player be loyal to a team? Half the fans on this board have been ripping Cally all year. There's no loyalty anymore, not from players, not from organizations and not from fans. It's a business.

I chose to play for my hometown school instead of go to a more prestigious university. I don't know why everyone always assumes money is the only motivation anyone has. There are a million different things people give value to.

Sounds about right.

This is a unique year because of the olympics. I think teams want certainty before the break.
If Cally gets injured during the olympics, Sather is screwed. He probably wants it bottomed out by the break, one way or the other.

Ill bet you $100 Callahan doesnt get traded before the Olympics.

You owe me some coin.
From Brooks

According to a trustworthy source, the Blueshirts want the situation resolved before their captain travels to Sochi to play for Team USA and therefore subjects himself to possible injury in the Olympics.

Good for you. Now make the same choice when there's an extra 12 mil on the line.

Well, let's view it analytically.

12 million is 12 million. But it's a lot different in terms of subjective value when you're talking about the first 12 million, or 12 million on top of a 30 million dollar offer.

I haven't the slightest idea what I'd do with my 2nd million dollars. I don't imagine 31 onwards would be more important to me then working where I loved with the people I enjoyed.

I think most people think that, before they're presented with their 31st million dollars.

It might be. I can tell you I wouldn't up and move to California for a 30% payraise myself, which is what this amounts to.

How many teams traded their captain the year they won a cup?

Actaully, what was the soonest a team won a cup after dumping their old captian?

Not often. Then again, most captains are the team's best player (i.e. Crosby, Ovechkin, Toews, etc.) so there is no reason to trade them. Before Callahan, some of our Captains were Jagr, Leetch, and Messier.

You aren't an NHL hockey player. You aren't making millions of dollars. Your career isn't likely to end within the next 7 years due to age/injury. Until you've actually been in his shoes, it's unfair to judge.

I wouldn't call it judging, I just think if I'm naming a captain of the team, I'd like a guy that places at least some value on playing for the club.

Just like if I'm promoting a manager, I want a guy who cares about the work he does here enough to not leave for the first payraise.

People value things differently. Now, I'll never have a choice between a 30 million and 42 million dollar contract, so I can't say. But the only thing I could imagine doing with the extra money is turning all my immediate family into unemployed hobbyists.

I totally respect Callahan and his choices. I just want a captain who gives some value to playing here.

Seriously, its remarkable the stuff people say about athletes when it comes to contracts and situations like this.

My favorite is when people argued that David Clarkson (though I'm sure the same argument has been used for other players) should have voluntarily taken less money because he's not worth his contract. Just completely ignoring the fact that "smart people" were paid to give David Clarkson his contract.

Rangers have given permission to multiple teams to talk to Ryan Callahan's agent, Steve Bartlett.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is Callahan's last game with the Rangers.

I don't blame Callahan one single bit. Those 2 years are potentially $12M.

It SUCKS as a fan. Gonna be a sad day when he is traded.

And I too would welcome Dubi back with open arms. No idea why Columbus would move him.
