Callahan wouldn't even be the centerpiece in a trade for Johansen. But it won't happen. The Rangers need to target a young guy who HASN'T broken out, not someone who is in the middle of one. Boston did that with Reilly Smith. The Rangers need to find someone like that.

i understand what youre saying, but that doesnt change my feeling that if these two teams are going to make a third major deal in less than 3 years, than that is the guy who needs to be coming back.

we have heard reports of execs in the league who said they viewed calli and dubi as the identity of this organization when it really continued the upswing after jagr left. if we are going to basically trade both parts of that identity to another team, than a potential gamebreaker needs to be coming back who fills a distinct organizational need and can potentially become part of our new identity here

How many teams traded their captain the year they won a cup?

Actaully, what was the soonest a team won a cup after dumping their old captian?

People want ex-Rangers for Callahan? Come on people, move on from that. Rangers need to find a young guy, preferably a C, who is on the verge of a breakout year. Where do they find that player? That is the scouts' job.

Dubi, Gaborik, and a deuce for Callahan and a 3rd.

Dubi fixes our #2 LW hole, with size and grit no less, and can be a C in a pinch. Proven NY Success.

Gaborik is just CBJ unloading a mistake, and we'd only want him here for this years PO push anyway. Gaborik at #2 or #3 RW is a nice depth scoring player to have.

Kreider-Step-Nashty
Dubi-Richards-Zucc/Gabs

Its almost a 1A/1B Situation, which most cup-challenging teams have.

The won't work just based off of the cap

The Rangers are approaching next Friday’s 3 p.m. pre-Olympic roster freeze rather than the March 5 trade deadline as the decision-making target regarding the future of Ryan Callahan, The Post has learned.

According to a trustworthy source, the Blueshirts want the situation resolved before their captain travels to Sochi to play for Team USA and therefore subjects himself to possible injury in the Olympics.

It is believed that general manager Glen Sather would be amenable to signing Callahan, an impending unrestricted free agent, to an extension of five years. But sources report that the winger, whose role has been reduced under coach Alain Vigneault. is holding firm on his request for a seven-year contract and has no intention of taking a hometown discount to remain in New York.

If it isn't willing to take a cut to stay, then it's time for him to leave, honestly.

Reverse Drury situation.

If the team trades him, what are the chances of them doing a jersey trade in or something like that?

Considering that Callahan is a very popular name on a jersey, I would say slim to none.

Good call. Add to the list.

I just love that photo.

Ryan Callahan just doesn't get you Ryan Johansen. Do you think CBJ cares about the Rangers core three years ago? No. No team in the NHL cares.

Why does fault need to be associated here?

These are 2 different factions making the best business decision for the both of them. No hard feelings. Hand shake. Move on.

It isn't fault, it just means he doesn't value his role here enough to sustain an opportunity cost of some extra cash.

We've had this conversation before, it depends on the individual. If I got my start at a company, they gave me raises, and then put me in a leadership position, I might accept the fact that I could make more elsewhere and still choose to stay. Wouldn't have to uproot the family, could keep the same friends, house, and influential leadership position.

Callahan, evidently, feels he owes NYR nothing and has not a dollar's worth of extra loyalty to the club.

Who cares if they are ex-Rangers? If they are good players who will help the team, bring them in.

If we're not getting Jonathan Drouin or Seth Jones back I'm not doing it.

In all seriousness, don't really see a deal with Columbus. The Rangers are still looking to win now, they don't just want a prospect/young player back.

And Columbus is looking to win too, so I don't really see them wanting to give up the pieces it would take to make it worth to trade Callahan to a division rival, but hey maybe I'm wrong.

I"m sure they'd love to move a 3rd liner and a second tier prospect for Callahan but I'm not sure that's really worth it for the Rangers

The ONLY ex-Ranger I would be interested in is Dubinsky. Not Gaborik. Not Anisimov, not Erixon. And I would look elsewhere first.

Why should any player be loyal to a team? Half the fans on this board have been ripping Cally all year. There's no loyalty anymore, not from players, not from organizations and not from fans. It's a business.

I think STL is the team that is talking to Cally's agent.

Yeah we'll prob wind up getting the **** end of the stick and wind up with Stewart. Going from a guy who puts 120% into every game he plays to a lazy, soft 230 lb winger (I haven't really watched him but, StL fans aren't keen on him)
