This is what I don't really understand about the decision making process here. Yeah, more money is better than less money, obviously. Having said that, I've got to imagine he wants to win a cup. He's not getting any younger, he's been hurt on and off recently, if he's going to play a decent role in a cup win for anybody, it's going to have to happen soon, certainly on this next contract. But, by pricing himself the way he's being reported to, he's going to pretty much guarantee that he goes to a team that is desperate and has a lot of cap space. Those aren't going to be competitors. It'll be the teams stupid or desperate enough to meet those demands. Look at Clarkson, cool for him he has a big contract, but he's an albatross on a team that isn't getting better. He's either bought out or stuck there because nobody is ever going to trade for that contract.
Of course, it's possible that A. We're seeing a tiny sample of a long negotiation and the reported demands are old or purposely high or something, or B. Callahan will sign a somewhat more reasonable deal, just wants to be on a specific team that isn't the Rangers, or wants to be on a team that is further along in the building process, or C. The extra millions of dollars mean more to him than whatever else, which isn't that unreasonable.
