Dwight King could be a tremendous 3rd/4th line upgrade over Bryan Boyle.

Callahan makes more than Stewart. Callahan makes $4.825M this season. Stewart makes $4.1M. He is also signed for next season at $4.2M salary. Any deal the Rangers make will involve them taking back because Callahan is making $5M this season. So teams are close to the cap or using long term IR to run their teams. The cap hits are similar. $4.275M. $4.15M. The Rangers retain the difference in salaries for this season. The Blues save $4.2M next season. The Rangers should be compensated for that with more than Stewart and the Blues get Callahan for the rest of this season. They can use him to block pucks with his hands when Halak or Elliott struggle.

It just makes sense when you say it this way. The Blues have been trying to move him all season. He doesn't fit on their team. Cap dump pretty much with some upside for the Rangers.

The LA Kings are 100% in on capt cally .. Scott Sabourin is the prospect rangers like, it would take roster players also

Not a surprise. I would hope for Pearson + someone like Clifford or Toffoli.

I don't mind the idea of Chris Stewart coming back for Callahan but the Blues would have to add--looking at their prospect list--I'd be looking at goalies--like Allen, Binnington--d-men like Schmaltz, Vanelli--forwards like Jaskin, Rattie. Stewart and at least one of them.

Another deal would be Callahan for two of the above prospects--one of which would have to be Rattie, Allen or Jaskin. The Blues would be picking up extra salary but the Rangers would not be getting back a player to fill in for Callahan right away.

The Rangers are in the unique position of being very able to pick up most of Callahan's remaining salary for the rest of the season and staying under the cap.

I can't see who could come off LA's roster for Callahan.

Maybe:

Matt Greene + some very strong non-roster assets for Callahan

and then

McGinn for Stralman

Not something I'd love, but something I could see the Rangers doing.

Ewwww no...just no

Well you could also say that the Gods have been far from kind when it comes to our 1st rounders, but yeah I get what you're saying HBNYC.

At the end of the day I'd love to see us keep this guy. I just think he's got a lot left more in the tank than people here generally think. He's been proving people wrong his whole junior and NHL career.

He may not be worth $7 or even $6 mil, but he's far, far from chopped liver. I'd be just fine with a $35 mil 7 year deal that keeps him a Ranger for life. There is a lot there more than just the dollars that has to be worth something.

Sather will not lose cally for nothing.. The return will make fans happy . The problem is cally is a blue collar guy that fans love and is ultimate team player getting anything back that isn't loved right off the bat will be viewed as a lose.. The other problems are lots of guys are available right now market is thick not thin right now

Question becomes now, can you get more (multiple players and/or high picks) that would be worth more than Cally, even if you got him on an OK deal? (lets face it the rangers arent getting a sweetheart deal). Now that hes out there and garnering real interest this may take on a life of its own.

Callahan can play anywhere for any team in the league. Both conferences. He's the perfect guy for a playoff run - at least his reputation around the league says so. A certain team might be willing to over do it for his services.

Sutter doesn't seem to love Toffoli, which is why I think prying him out of LA wouldn't be too ridiculous a task.

Market was thin earlier in the season but it seems it may be opening up a little bit now that teams have an idea of what they are.

More activity will mean more teams looking to add Callahan.

That is true. Possibly Moulson, Vanek, Gaborik all available. Bad year to be trading Cally.

Gaborik and Vanek have $7M+ cap hits, so that's working against them.

Stewart + Jaskin + 1st + EDM 2nd.

For

Callahan.

Prospect, 1st & 2nd isn't uncommon for a premium paid for a rental.

Rattie is small, and doesn't have elite wheels. I have an associate that is involved with the Moncton Wildcats and he's take on Jaskin is that he is the real deal. Voracek like player.

This package is cheaper for STL than what LA paid for Mike Richards.

Jesus christ STL gets hosed.

And Gaborik is a broken down shell of his former self, much more so than Callahan who is younger and has a better all around "leadership" type game.

Really? That surprises me a bit. Any word on who else is available? Anyone else from the Rangers?

Thanks for dropping in Dagoon

As i said before I think Callahan is a unique player that can fit on almost any team, system, conference. Hes a Captain. His off-ice intangibles will be sold to both the team buying and the teams fans after they give away seemingly too much for a rental. Easily justified. Its Ryan Callahan.

Rangers fans see more flaws then all of the other teams, and probalby a majority of the scouts. Weve watched all 440+ games.

Thanks. Best we can hope for at this point.

If this happens it will suck....no matter what. And to some extent, I'll always wonder why a deal could not get done.

I'm sure the Rangers if they were to do a deal with the Kings would get something significant other than Scott Sabourin but Sabourin does have potential. He's 21--big and mean and he does have some skills--a kind of lesser Tom Wilson though probably just as tough. In time he could be a fairly decent 3rd liner if he pans out with a lot of size and toughness. Still a bit of a gamble--so the Rangers would have to get more.

Yeah, I agree, which is why I am eagerly awaiting to see a potential return for Callahan.

Yep. Toffoli would be great but don't think the Kings are moving him at all. Likely a Pearson, Sabourin & 2nd type of deal. Don't know what LA's picks look like this year and next.

If your top 6 and scoring is already set, especially as a western team, a player like Callahan will be much more attractive for the playoffs than Gaborik, Moulson, Vanek, Cammalleri.

Question is, when does it become too much of a good thing? St. Louis and LA have tons of grit already. Also, Gaborik won't be dealt. CBJ are too excited about possibly making the playoffs. They know he can make the difference in a series if healthy.

If we're trying to win something this year, then keep Callahan.

If we're not, then trade him and get the best FUTURE player possible.

Don't do this half arsed "Trade him and get a decent player back and also a middle round pick" nonsense.

All in or all out, Sather.
