Sounds about right.

This is a unique year because of the olympics. I think teams want certainty before the break.
If Cally gets injured during the olympics, Sather is screwed. He probably wants it bottomed out by the break, one way or the other.

Ill bet you $100 Callahan doesnt get traded before the Olympics.

Stewart would help offset the scoring that you would lose by letting Callahan go, but you are talking about trading a Captain here, a USA Olympian. A gutty, hard-nosed 5% of the league character guy that can get you much closer to a Cup . You need to pay more to get that IMO.

A high pick, a very good prospect. More. Stewart inst enough. The Rangers have to come away with this something short term and long term. Or just very good short term. Callahans dont grow on trees. Stewarts do.

Ive been all for trading Callahan - but thinking about what he does for this team and everything hes provided the fans over the years, this sucks now. It has to be done but god**** it get a good return.

It's a bet I'd take. This is the way I'd break it down.
You can either get a lower value now but certainty, but if teams are willing to gamble a little and hold on until after the olympics, you get a better value due to the frenzy of only 1 (or so) week before the deadline.
I'd say it's 60/40. We shall see.

With a pay day coming up during the Olympic break some teams might not want to take on larger contracts until after the break, lessening the possibility of trades.

No way in hell do I want to trade Cally for Stewart. There better be much more in the trade besides just a 2nd round pick.

To be honest I don't even want to hear the name Stewart in the conversation. He brings nothing. Give us Tarasenko and then we can start talking.

Stewart + Jaskin + 1st + EDM 2nd.

For

Callahan.

Prospect, 1st & 2nd isn't uncommon for a premium paid for a rental.

Rattie is small, and doesn't have elite wheels. I have an associate that is involved with the Moncton Wildcats and he's take on Jaskin is that he is the real deal. Voracek like player.

This package is cheaper for STL than what LA paid for Mike Richards.

The difference is that the Flyers did not have to move Richards. He was under contract.

Richards was a long term addition for LA, and they paid extra to get him.

Cally is a rental.

That's completely fair if accurate.

Honest question Frozen. If it's so well know that Callahan is "broken down" then how on earth will he command $6 mil???

Ryan Clowe was more broken down and got a surprising deal from the Debbies. All it takes is one team to overpay...and there usually is one.

Ridiculous overpayment by St. Loiuis. I would very happy with Stewart plus one of Jaskin/1st, let alone all three plus what could possibly be a "first rounder" (that pick could end up 30th).

That's more like two firsts (EDM 2nd is baiscally a first) a high 2nd and Stewart for Callahan. There's no way we get that kind of return.

That package is insane for a guy under contract for another 5 months.

It's better than the Kovalchuk/Hossa rental packages... for Callahan.

Here
Can someone list any other rental deals involving a player of Cally's stature that have occurred over the past few seasons, for reference?

Yes but a team trading for Cally will want to wait until after the break. Standstill.
