One of the worst posts I've ever read.

The irony is it's such a bad post that it forgets how Hank got his starting spot.

He got his spot due to injuries and kept it after he played well. Kevin Weeks's injury is the main reason Hank got the starting spot his rookie year.

You would think a Hank fan would remember that and not post that malarky about Callahan.

I only got my job because some old guy had to retire. What a horrible employee I must be.

You need to get over it. Cally is leaving. It's just a matter of what return they get for him.

We all love what cally did for the rangers. But if they aren't prepared to offer him a huge 7 year deal then it doesn't matter. There is no way cally is here next season.

I think you're right. It's really starting to feel that way, but I don't think they will get much for him.

I know extremely little about Callahan personally, but the sense I get is that he wants to remain close to his family and his wife's family in Rochester.

If that's the case, I think it would then be hard to trade him to anyone but a team within reasonable driving distance.

If they really can't get a fair return, it's better to hang on to him and hope we catch fire in the playoffs. Cally would certainly help himself in the FA market by having a good performance.

holy revisionist history batman.

all of a sudden Cally is just some scrub?

*shakeshead*

Ryan Callahan is going to the Olympics...again.

He's been our captain, he plays in all situations and he's an IMPACT player on most nights.

Cally has definite value, and if his asking price and term were more reasonable, we would and should rejoice at signing him.

but anything beyond 5x5 is doomed for failure.

this isnt about trashing cally, thats total bushleague crap.

this is about the history of players who play his game having their games degenerate very quickly.

I'm trying to think value wise, of a player Callahan could fetch, who i'd rather have then Callahan. I can't think of one.

If Callahan is going to the Blues the only thing that'd make it hurt less is if Backes is coming back.

Do not want Chris Stewart.

Wow, Cally for Stewart would be awful. I can't believe how many people justify running Cally out talking about how overrated he is, how inconsistent, how bad in the playoffs etc. I'm sure you'll all love Stewart, who is not a top 6 player on a good team, who is wildly inconsistent, and who has never had an even decent playoff run. Oh, and Callahan doesn't play like Callahan of old anymore? Wait till you see Stewart coast around with his huge frame and do absolutely nothing.

If they trade the captain of this team for Chris Stewart, they'll have made a huge, huge downgrade for a player who is going to want a raise himself in a year. Downgrade on the player and push the problem off for one year. Brilliant plan.

I don't want Stewart on this team at any capacity at all. He's everything that frustrates everyone about Boyle with absolutely none of the effort or defense.

Lou Gehrig - Wally Pip.

"One man's fate is another man's fortune" - Tom Renney.

This is how it works. I thought every one got that.

I could see Stewart reaching Boylesque levels of ire and controversy on this board.

If there was no other alternative, I could see this happening. But I sure hope the Rangers can get a bit more than just one guy for a guy who is so universally respected as Callahan.

I am almost certain that he would reach that. He's every single thing that people hate on Callahan for, only worse, combined with everything people hate on Boyle for, only worse. He's just not a very good player. In 100% honesty, I'd rather keep Cally till the end of this season and lose him for nothing than trade him for Stewart. Dude is not going to be an asset for this team as it's built now. He's a good backup guy on a team with real depth on the wings. Don't depend on him to do anything and he won't disappoint you.

Thank you. Trading Cally for Stewart is a sideways move at best. That's if Stewart brings effort every night, which it seems he does not. We should be targeting skilled players.

Callahan is so ****ing overrated by this fan base its sickening. Does anyone remember HOW he even got on the team?

He was given a look for one game, and immediately sent down…his second time?

Ryan Hollweg got the flu, and RYAN CALLAHAN was the emergency call-up.

Callahan has gotten by with his hard work ethic, and his dedication to the team. He has a huge heart, but I want SKILL and TALENT in that position.

He is not worth what money he is going to command. Be smart, and get some new blood in here from trading him.

Hmmmm. I wonder what those Olympic committee folks were thinking;)

Who is going to give up skill players for a rental?

This is precisely the type of trade you make (If you can get Stewart + a high pick).

Take the names out of the proposal altogether.

Callahan = Player 1
Stewart = Player 2

Player 1 is going to walk in the offseason. Presumably in a trade you can get Player 2 in return plus a high pick. Player 2 is signed for another season (at a rate less than Player 1), exceeds the offensive output of Player 1, and is 2 years younger.

Next year, you see if Player 2 is open to a reasonable extension or you rinse and repeat.

Stewart replacing Callahan this season doesn't leave a huge hole in the lineup where shipping Callahan off for prospects alone. The Rangers can compete in the playoffs, plus pick up important assets (presumably and hopefully high pick).

Letting Callahan walk for nothing is the WORST deal on the table.

So you're saying that just one for one straight up is a go or a no go?
