So you're saying that just one for one straight up is a go or a no go?
You take the best deal you can get.
If the best they get is stewart straight up, you take it 10 out of 10 times

holy revisionist history batman.
all of a sudden Cally is just some scrub?
*shakeshead*
Ryan Callahan is going to the Olympics...again.
He's been our captain, he plays in all situations and he's an IMPACT player on most nights.
Cally has definite value, and if his asking price and term were more reasonable, we would and should rejoice at signing him.
but anything beyond 5x5 is doomed for failure.
this isnt about trashing cally, thats total bushleague crap.
this is about the history of players who play his game having their games degenerate very quickly.
Those same people decided to take Brooks Orpik on their team instead of Keith Yandle, so.
I start to get a knot in my stomach when thinking about trading away our homegrown, heart and soul Captain.
Even if the deal is great for NYR - Callahan is one of the players that helps me forget those mercenary/retirement seasons we had to endure years ago - two lockouts ago.
To Blues:
Ryan Callahan (1/2 salary retained)
To Rangers:
Chris Stewart (1/2 salary retained)
Edmonton's 2014 2nd round pick
Blues take on an extra 62,500 (prorated) cap charge this season. Rangers get Stewart for $2.075 million next season.
Ambitious?
rather make any deal stronger in draft picks than cap space. Would you rather give Sather more money to spend on Free Agents opposed to prospects?
I bet of all 2014 UFAs, Callahan's deal is the one that makes me cringe the most. That's the one real downside with all this cally leaving stuff.
Id almost rather have a broken down cally under contract for big money then let Sather go out on a spending spree.
Paying 6 million for a broken down Callahan will remind you Messier's 2nd tour as well.
A move that replaces Callahan with a capable player in today's roster plus an asset to bulid on is the perfect solution for a ****** situation.
Stewart fits the roster player criteria. Who is the "legitimate prospect"? That's what I want to know.No one who cares about the Rangers wants to see Callahan dealt. It would be jarring, no doubt. But if it is clear there is no contractual agreement to be reached, the general manager has the responsibility of moving the captain for the best available package; one that should include at least a player who could step in immediately plus a legitimate prospect.
chris stewart is not enough. sweeten the pot.
st louis with a healthy cally would be tough come playoff time.
if they want him, then slats needs to sell cally to them. make them up their offer cause stewart isnt nearly enough. has anyone here even seen him play.
hes like a big teddy bear who can fight.
That's completely fair if accurate.
Honest question Frozen. If it's so well know that Callahan is "broken down" then how on earth will he command $6 mil???
Let's remember what Brookes said

Edmonton's 2nd rd may be enough, but I doubt it. I think they want prospects that are a little more advanced in their development.

A poster on the St. Louis board says Jaskin is ready for the NHL and probably a better fit than Stewart on their roster. Hitchcock is unwilling to bring up a rookie on a playoff team at this point in the season. He's the type of player we should be targeting.

5 weeks to go to the trade deadline. 5 weeks of negotiating. The price and # of teams willing to get in on this will increase during that time.
Or, in those 5 weeks, maybe Callahan cracks and takes a 5 year deal.
