Once more, for the record, there are posters IN THIS THREAD who were listening to the broadcast and have reported that what was said was a 1st OR a prospect + a 2nd. I'm trusting the regulars on this forum before the nutbags on other boards.

Given that starting point, I could see the price getting whittled down and/or the deal expanded to something we might actually do.

This, in of itself, is not going to cost feaster his job. I'm sure he went to ownership and ran it past them considering the high profile of Iggy.

You aren't going to put any team "over the barrel" with a 35 year old player who is UFA over the summer. Iggy will most likely just resign with Calgary for next season.

So, Calgary got some ok pieces for a guy who will play, at most, 2.5 months away from your team.

Then they better cross their fingers that he does do that, or else I forsee a riot at the saddledome.

Why do people want to trade Stralman so badly. He's been a great pickup for us.

What do you guys think about this?

Gaborik
Pyatt
Skjei
St. Croix

For

Boyle
Clowe
2nd.

Stralman
2nd.
3rd.

Morris
Gordon

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Clowe-Miller-Callahan
Kreider-Richards-Zuccarello
Boyle-Gordon-Asham

McD-G
Staal-Boyle
DZ-Morris

I am big Gabby fan but here's why I do this. Clowe is the closest thing to the Hartnell or Lucicesque power forward out there, outside of those two. Dan Boyle, after Karlsson and Doughty is probably the third best puck rushing defenseman thats a right handed shot. Gordon is a righty shot, good on draws, pk, utility guy that is basically Powe and Halpern rolled into one. Morris is a physical, right handed shooting defenseman that is experienced in tight checking systems.

This gives Torts five defensemen that can play the most amount of minutes any night, and easily the best D in the league. You get a power foward, and an top 4 PMD, and a top 4 capable shutdown defenseman, and provided the newly acquired assets a re-signed at a reasonable cap hit. Plenty of cap space for next year with a tougher team that is built like the B's upfront, and the Hawks on D.

Uhhh, no? That is horrible. We are giving up 2 of our top 4-8 prospects depending on how people rate them for a guy who cant score and i boyle?

NO THANKS

Stralman is actually perfect as the 5th D-Man. He's relatively young too.

Wow thread really heated up tonight.

B's stole Iggy if rumored deal is true. Shows what a NMC does to trade value.

I think Clowe is a risk worth taking, but definitely not at the rumored price. He is a guy that would instantly add "playable toughness" into the lineup. Obviously yes he has flaws. But I think he would be a good fit.

Please for the love of God Sather STAY AWAY FROM CLOWE. I wouldn't give up a 3rd round pick and a top prospect for him right now let alone the rumored 1st, 2nd, and prospect for him. What in the hell is the SJ management smoking? Even if you go off of prior years performances he is at most a 55 point player on average. The type of deal they want is for 70 point player. They want a Phil Kessel type deal. Get out of here with this nonsense. I'm not about to overpay for a player who has been injury prone with ZERO goals this year. ZERO. ZERO. ZERO. ZERO. ZERO. ZERO. Have you seen SJ's offense? If not now, the beginning of the year? A blind squirrel practically could've chipped in a goal during their surge, banged up or not. If sather makes this trade for clowe and pays anywhere near their asking price it will be the worst move he has made as the GM of this team because it is depleting the system for a very average hockey player. Yes I said it, worse than the drury, redden, gomez, holik, etc signings.

Two top tier pairs on the back and a third that would easily get 20+ a night means no matchup problems, and I think theres a premium on players that play a heavy brand of hockey, and bring the elements Clowe and Boyle do. Maybe there are better ways around it, but the teams winning right now a built a specific way to play.

Iggy apparently wants an extension ASAP with the team he's being traded to.

With his pedigree and his work to stay fit, I expect multiple 30-40g seasons from him in the near future.

So, a huge multi-year 35+ contract is somehow a positive with a hugely declining cap?

I'd still rather have our Nash deal than their Iginla deal. Major respect to Jerome, but he's not the answer to our problems, which is primarily that we have 4 top D and a sub par 5/6 with no shot from the point to speak of.

Sooooffffft. Played for a contract last year, got one, and settled in, game regresses as players get more physical with him.

Are you joking. He's a great 5th d-man. Who can slot in to the top 4 with injuries.

He's been an absolute steal. A very good skater who can shoot the puck and provide offense here and there.

He also is more physical than i ever expected him to be. Not everyone is a crease clearing d-man.

People on these boards really need to learn the value of depth players. Not everyone can be a top pairing d-man. Stralman is a GREAT bottom pairing d-man. You don't trade those away because what you get back won't be worth as much.

And for Derek ****ing Morris. Are you kidding me. Get a grip.

It shows we should've called in on Iginla even though we were not on the list. Maybe could've changed his mind. I don;t think the rumored price the B's are about to pay is that high.

With the addition of Iginla, rangers, imo should match with a move of their own. I say Jagr. UFA to be. Find room for him. He's got the size and scoring ability still and maybe one more cup in him.

I had to read that a few times to try to understand what you were saying.

Clowe's value is about as low as it can be right now, and Boyle, making 6.6 next season doesn't really bold well in any way.

We certainly aren't giving up our 1st round pick from last year, a decent forward prospect, and one of our top offensive players for them.

Another poster who hasn't got a clue. Where is Jagr slotting in? He's a RW. Are we going to move him to LW? You can't just throw **** against a wall and make it stick. You need moves that make sense.

what im shocked at is why Devils didnt sign him. he was always a solid number 5 dman in past but been on crappy teams.. was a teammate of Nash as well. solid underrated dman. i wont be shocked if he plays for team Sweden in the olympics...

IDK, I'm totally against giving away a 1st round pick and 2 prospects for a (maybe) 30 day rental at its worst and playoff run rental at its best. Unless Iginla wants to sign a multiyear deal (which, in this case, isn't great either as it's a 35+ anchor contract), I say it's detrimental to the future of your team.

Clowe would be a great addition to our bottom lines if we can get him for a reasonable price.

Also, adding a depth defenseman would be nice, just to be on the safe side for the stretch run. Don't know how I feel about trusting Eminger or Gilroy in that position. Then again, once Staal comes back, things will be much better for us. Having said that, I do believe that Eminger has played fine as the 6th defenseman...took him a little while to get going but he's been getting the job done.

i find it funny the Chara was once on the Islanders. maybe he sucked on purpose to get traded. as soon as he was traded, he turned into a allstar dman

Got a clue? I think I have a pretty damn good idea about this team and the game. Obviously he plays RW. I'm well aware. But at this point if anyone is going to consider Clowe with zero goals this season I'd rather have Jagr here at RW and Callahan playing out of position at LW. Callahan would produce more than Clowe as a LWer. Just a joke if we acquire Clowe. Give me anyone else but Clowe. I'm sick of the obsession with Clowe.

He's improved a ton under Torts. Really a very ideal bottom pairing d-man. I like him a lot.

Last year, yes, during his walk year. Steve Eminger has played more in the top 4, and DZ on his offside when Staal was healthy than Stralman, who plays well against teams that aren't hard. I do think the Rangers had success with the reputation of being hard to play against last year and, that's and overall team thing that needs to be addressed.

Okay, we should take the Stralman debate elsewhere. This isn't the place for it.
