Go into the Draft with two Firsts, two Seconds, and in hopes that the EDM first is a high pick (3rd overall if we went by standings as of today). I don't like how slow Thornton is, or his age, but at a reasonable term (3 years is a dream) the man can still put up points. Don't have to bother with him though, Save 6.5 Million on the cap, Swap ROR back to center with Hagelin slotting into 2LW, Morin to 3LW. Faceoffs should improve overall. Gain a lot of Youth, Size and bite with that lineup. Multiple high draft picks along with prospects from the trades replenishes pipeline and causes a bit more competition for NHL roster spots.

Disclaimer: It really is late, I'm tired, and I still understand that this is an absolutely ridiculous post that will never happen (I channeled my inner Bern), but it's indicative of the type of direction I'd like to see the team go in, getting bigger, stronger, younger with more offense littered throughout the entire lineup, rather than just one line. Sacrificing some of the super strong defensive play we've been known for past few years for a slightly more offensive blue line with speed and the ability to jump up into plays with more regularity, while still being relatively sound in their own end.
there we go... trying to "buy" a Cup again. haven't we that going out and acquiring the pieces that look best on paper isn't the way to go?

Some of the posts on this board are mind-numbing. On this forum and the main trade proposal board. The Rangers lost to Nashville and Columbus at home and the games were not competitive. Their bottom six forwards last night were Boyle,Moore,Dorsett,Pouliot,Pyatt and Asham. I read how the Rangers shouldn't tank this season and they should wait until next season. The Rangers are not trying to lose on purpose. The team just stinks. Calgary is coming in on Sunday. That is another hard working team which will come into the new transformed Madison Square Garden and the Chase Bridges and beat the Rangers on Sunday night. The Rangers have lost 3 straight games at home to third-string goalies and backups. It wasn't even close. They aren't making the playoffs as a .500 team. Right now the Rangers are two games under .500. This part of their schedule was supposed to be where the Rangers made up ground and pulled away from the pack. They have Calgary,Pittsburgh,Islanders,Minnesota and Toronto at home before Christmas. Three day break. Five game road trip to Washington,Tampa,Florida,Pitt and Toronto. No Callahan or Staal. There isn't a magic deal out there. The roster freeze starts in 6 days. December 19-28.

I saw Brian Burke yesterday discussing Feaster being terminated. Burke is on his 5th job since Slats took over the Rangers. GM in VAN,Anaheim and Toronto. Consultant in Anaheim. President of Hockey Ops in Calgary. Sather needs to step down. Nothing will change.

Sather truly needs to step down now.

A lot of good could come by taking a step back this season and missing the playoffs.

A possible top 5 pick.

Moving Callahan and Girardi nets you two #1 picks and two quality prospects, as well as not committing long-term money to two players no longer on the upswing in their respective career paths.

I would gladly throw away this season.

Lets say they limp into the playoffs - they will get annihilated. This team is not winning the cup.

Clean up this mess and see what we have next season.

I waited 20-25 games for this team to work kinks out and adjust to system, and I wholeheartedly agree with NikC.

Acquiring some draft picks and avoiding poor, risky contracts to aging players is just what the doctor ordered for this team.

Would sting seeing guys like Cally and Girardi go. Would sting more in 5-6 years watching them take up a bunch of cap room, play minimal minutes/games and get booed.

Never wanna give up on the boys, but if the season ended tonight we would have like the 8th overall pick with that record.

The mantra of Rangerland hopefuls LOL.

The difference being that this season we could get rid of a lot of useless players, and get a higher pick.

We need new management, but we all know that this isn't going to happen.

Taking a step back and re-tooling would help this team more than trying to win the cup when we all know this team won't.

Agreed. I said all along, give it until the end of November, into December, to judge the team. Well, we're there.

The team still has some very high quality pieces to build on. And it has some attractive pieces to trade, even if they don't fit here now (think about how we'd all be frothing to pick off a Girardi or a Cally from a struggling squad if the team was gearing up for a Cup run). But the current amalgam is flawed - and obviously not working. Identify your NEW core, leverage the valuable pieces for picks, prospects and young players (likely at the deadline, I'm afraid to say). Load up over the next 1-2 years and you're back on track.

It would be nice to do it under different management, but that's not going to happen. Hopefully Slats can sell himself the idea that this will be his legacy - one last bite at the apple, a new core of youth for the new CBA, under the new style of play.

One can hope. It's better than wallowing in depression. :)

I quoted you, but I wasn't really directing my remark at you. It just seems we're, as a group, just regurgitating the same classic phrases year in and year out. "Wait til next year...", "Let's retool...", " We should take a step back and...". 11 years to build a team for a single ECF run...and now we're looking to retool. How many years will this project take? Because there is no simple answer. Taking a step back only works if you pull in the right pieces. Has Sather shown any ability to do that in his 13 years at the helm?

The Bruins were a good team heading into the second lockout. Mike Sullivan was their head coach. They had acquired Sergei Gonchar from the Caps in 2004. Boston lost to Montreal in the playoffs. For some reason, they had no players signed coming out of that lockout. They missed the playoffs in 05-06 and 06-07. They were bad enough to draft Kessell in 2006. They whiffed on the 07 first rounder in Zach Hamill.

They built a good team.

I think of that group Brassard would be the obvious choice.

Not sure trading our 1st this year would be advisable.

Especially at the rate we're going. We probably want to hold onto our 1st.

knowing Sather he will trade it again that watch the pick be a top 10... if sickness wont make Sather step down, nothing will until he vanishes... can someone hold him for ransom LMAO

I would use it to get Kane, unless we plan on completely tanking, which we won't/can't do.

Kane is awesome and id love to have him, NYC might not be the best spot for Kane's so called personality that he has been rumored to have. big problem is the Rangers need to find talent that has won or from winning cultures. they get all of these players from losing teams why else would they not have that losing mentality.... .. why cant the Rangers draft their own forward superstar???? the last 4 Stanley Cup Winning Teams have done this.....

Still one of my favorite things Evander Kane has ever done…

if he did that here. half the fans would be pissed because a star player is fighting and they would want Dorsett to do that  Iginla fights a lot too. i wonder if fans wouldnt want him because of that.. i actually wanted Iginla for a year or 2 contract before he went to the Bruins..
