why cant the Rangers draft their own forward superstar???? the last 4 Stanley Cup Winning Teams have done this.....

Because the rangers don't get top-5 picks. Yes, you *can* find one later, but your odds are greatly diminished. With modern NHL scouting, the Datsyuks and Zetterbergs are fewer and far between.

Every recent cup winners had at least one, if not several home-grown top-5 picks in their lineup as their star player. Kopi being the one exception as the star forward not taken with a top pick, but their top defener was.

This is the new NHL. To win, you need stars on ELCs/RFA contracts, and the only way to get those is to tank into the gutter.

The Rangers will not be participating.

Evander Kane is a solid player, but not a superstar player.

Would take Ladd over him, probably Wheeler as well. Probably on par with Little.

Agree, 100%. With the way this season is going, we will end up with a decent pick. Moving DZ/Girardi/Cally etc for a young player like Kane (not all 3 players for Kane) plus another #1 would be taking a giant step forward in the right direction.

He hasn't achieved anything in the NHL. His teams haven't achieved anything in the NHL. More losing mentality on a team that is sinking deeper and deeper.

Idiotic.

Trade Girardi. Trade Del Zotto and Brassard. Try and build through the offseason, the draft, and several trades.

Need cup winning vets. Need leaders. We have no leaders on this team. No one to really take our rookies under their wing and teach them what it takes.

Can't wait until every day everyone is on Kane watch here begging for Sather to trade for him. He's not what this team needs.

i think its management that has not realized that it is not 1980 anymore.. time has changed.. im shocked Glen Sather has not realized that... im hoping Rangers can get a top draft pick this year but knowing Sather he will either select an 8th overall bust and he would still mess that up or trade it for a superstar that gets hurt and Rangers still miss the playoffs while that draft pick becomes a top 5..

i agree but do winning clubs move their talent...well boston did make a solid trade with the Stars but those are rare. Rangers need to inquire players from winning atmospheres. only reason i brought up Kane because he is the type Rangers should try to acquire.. gritty physical winger that has skill and gets nasty at times.. Nash for a big guy is soft physically and mentality.. id love a guy like David Backes but like Kane has not won at this time...

That seems like a very low price for Kane. Especially if it's someone besides Hagelin. Hard to believe another team wouldn't be able to top Brassard and a middling 1st-round pick. Even if you throw in Skjei too, that still seems low.

What better idea do you have in mind?

Great players on good teams are realistically not available. Kane is EXACTLY what this team needs. Strong, physical, does a bit of everything, will hit and fight, and most importantly can shoot and score. Only 22 also, and playing almost 22 minutes a game for the Jets.

Winners that ooze winning aren't usually available, gotta go with the next best thing.

And for all his faults, Kane is anything but lazy. He also despises losing, something I feel like no one else on this team does.

Getting a young potential superstar at the age of 22 would do wonders for this organization. But apparently it's also wrong.

Cool. Where's your evidence that he's okay with losing? And that he's content with not being in the playoffs? It's exactly his fault that the LHD and G of his team is trash. And that past their top 6 Winnipeg's offense is anemic. Exactly. Brilliant.

Lazy players don't fire almost 4 SOG per game. Do you even watch him play? He busts his ass every shift.

I guess you missed his tirade on twitter on how he hates losing and missing the playoffs. And before his injury he really kicked it up a notch on his team.

To be clear, I do not want Kane on this team just because it would take too much to get him and I'm not sure he's worth the price. But seriously? A player is fine with losing and fine with sitting out of the playoffs because his team has yet to do otherwise? Was Kovy fine with losing until he went to the Devils? Are god knows what percentage of players in the world who have never won a cup fine with it simply because they haven't done it? I mean what other explanation could their be?

Kane is exactly what this team needs but can't acquire through UFA or the draft. Hagelin and Brassard are 100% replaceable through UFA and the draft. And Miller/Skjei are not deal-breaking prospects, IMO.
