This is partially why I'm still thinking about whether or not to keep Richards.
That recapture may not be too bad in the long run. 6.66 mil for him is quite cheap at current prices. He could very well be on an 80 point pace on a team like Chicago right now.

Are there examples of a team giving a guy (let's call him "Dan Girardi") an extension and trading them away like a month later? Happens in other sports a lot but I can't think of a hockey example. It sounds...evil...
Ok maybe I can put it like this for you guys. Great teams surround their star players that they draft and get young with good/ok players to help them. The rangers get aging star players to help a team filled with ok players . You can't just plug these guys in and hope they gel. You draft them you get them young and surround them with guys like Callahan stepan Hagelin not the other way around
Have you seen their defense? They like veteran leadership back there. They got Gonchar a few years back. Made a playoff run with him. They've lost most of their real leadership back there.

Due to needing a 23 man roster. Their defense and goalie **** the bed come april. Only true contenders have 4 lines, 3 defensive pairs and a legit #1 starter or a legit tandem in net.
We fall into having 2 good lines. 2 good defensive pairings and a superstar goalie. A lot to be desired. Need more pieces to the puzzle. Look at the current St. Louis Blues. They have 4 lines of hockey players. We lack that. They have 3 pairings too. Never do we have that. Always some issue. Whether it was stu Bickel being the 6th or some bum filling out the roster.
No team should add a player to fill out the roster. If you do that, the player will haunt you. We have too many fillers. Whether it is Pyatt, Pouliot, D Moore, Falk. They are given a role, but they were filled in due to lack of position players already and sufficient cap space to add to the roster. These are extra depth players, but they are given roles on this team they cannot handle through regression or whatever reason it may be.

There are different ways to build a winning hockey team. Sather has managed to find all the wrong ways to build a hockey team. We're soft, slow, and not skilled. That is a rare combination he has managed.

We have no first line we have a garbage bottom 6.

Vigneault is about to lose his mind. He's throwing everyone under the bus. He's not happy.
A message needs to be sent to this group. Vigneault thought the prospect of someone close to the core would light a fire for them all to start playing at a high level. The players regressed.
My opinion is Del Zotto is gone by Christmas break, if not by the end of the week. Vigneault's first victim.

I have a tough time believing DZ gets traded before Staal returns. But anything is possible, I guess.
