Well, good on you I guess for being willing to sacrifice.

Our old-ass GM isn't, our owner isn't, most of the fan-base isn't

My point is if you're going to tank, you need to TANK. A one-year detour into tank-ville is half-assing it. I see people advocating building a team like Pittsburgh and Chicago -- and I dont think they realized how badly and how long they sucked.
Pittsburgh was so bad they almost lost their team and Chicago was a joke. I remember this and I agree most of these fans will not be ready for that since they cry when we are .500 but like I said teams like ny rangers ny Knicks ny jets ny giants ny Yankees do not full on rebuild. Different sports yet same model because of New York

MOST FANS. I'm not most fans I've been saying this for years, we have been suffering through .500 hockey for a few years now and 1 year of over achieving that got us bounced by a terrible devils team. Give me 5 years of missing the playoffs for a real team like Chicago or Boston.

Boston never tanked. A team like Detroit in their prime never tanked. San Jose has not needed to tank. Tanking to get a team like Pittsburgh or Chicago would take a decade and still might not work (look at teams like Florida, Edmonton, etc.).

Tanking, even if it was a good idea, is not an option. Our only option is to acquire as much talent as possible at the best prices. Make trades that benefit a long-term state of mind. Operate our team like an efficient business, basically. We haven't done a great job of that but that's what we need to do.

It was your argument. Your expectations for a first line forward are ridiculous for a 30 team league.

How are my expectations rediculous? Look at all the teams in the leagues first line. Where does our first line rank? Malkin is a first line center on every team in the league BUT Pittsburgh because of the best player in the world is infront of him. And you can't argue that

Thats not a plan, its a soundbite. You sound like Sather with this fluff.

Look at my post on the last page I put a edit in so people don't get confused. I'm not saying TANK I'm saying do it the right way in a rebuild not sign guys like Richards or trade for guys like Nash unless you already have a good team and that's what puts you over the top.

Bottom line this team lacks stars. McDonough is now playing on an all star level. Can anyone else name one? How many first liners does this team have and when I say first liners I'm saying a first liner on every team in the league. Nash is a first liner but good teams probably wouldn't even want him

This is what you said. Don't try to spin it now and make it something it's not. You want us to have players that would be on the first line on every team in the league. That is literally impossible unless you're the Penguins.

Ok you're right I'm wrong.

Have 9 mill coming off in Michalek, Corvo, and Phillips. They can afford him.

So they're trading their number 1 prospect and a possible top 10 pick for a defensive defenseman who is forgetting how to play defense and may or may not re-sign with them?

Because that right there, would be great asset management.

Yupp Pittsburgh has 2 first line centers we have 2 second line centers. What this team needs is more grit and to make another trade for another winger  I'm done

1st or 2nd. And i'm sure if Girardi was put on the market the asking price would be high and team's would be willing to part with a lot to get him. Senators need defensive help.

It's a fit. Help Ott with defense. Give them an anchor. Girardi's defensive regression won't be as apparent somewhere else as it is under Vigneault's system. We need a center.

I remember going to a game 3 or 4 years ago where the Rangers were playing the Stars. Brad Richards was dynamic. Controlling play, distributing the puck beautifully. I remember saying "Man, I wish the Rangers had a guy like that."

Then, we got him, and hes been a shell of himself. The Rangers need to ask themselves why that always happens to them when acquiring the top-shelf talent they need. The answer is muddled.

If Sather pulled that trade off I would be doing cartwheels in front of MSG.

But I don't think that the Sens think of themselves as buyers anyway.

Maybe they got him 3 or 4 years too late? Not every player who puts up a point per game stays that way thru out their 30s and that's where the rangers need to figure things out.

Neither team's trade is meant for a playoff run. Girardi, resigned, would be their anchor for what, 3-4 years before he completely fell off the map? Someone who's solid and a veteran will go a long way for their defense.

Trading Girardi means we're committing to at least a semi-rebuild plan. Zib isn't coming to put us over the top offensively this year, he'd be coming to provide a balance for years to come.

This trade wouldn't surprise me. Sather is good with trades when he has leverage. Having a player like Girardi gives a lot of leverage. Even if he is expiring.

Thats the only time you're going to acquire these guys.

Because you're not supposed to acquire these guys you're supposed to draft them or get lucky and trade for them when they're younger like the stars did trading for Richards from Tampa. Maybe the rangers should of got him then instead of seeing him work out for 2 teams thinking he'll do the same thing here at 31 years old

Can it be the city? Is it too big of a distraction for the players? Can they handle all there is? Everything is available to them, whether they play well or not. Why bother trying?

Dubi loved the city. His play slipped. Rangers traded him. It's a business. He took it personally. Look at what he said today. Players come in here, get comfortable, become entitled.

BUT BUT BUT...you cant do that without a top 5 pick!!!

(Brad Richards - 3rd round pick, BTW)

Yeah their Stanley cup and division titles say hello

Stanley cup was in 2009. Since then, they have been embarrased by Philly and Boston in the last two playoffs. Won't count 2011 because Crosby and Malkin were out.

And division titles? Come on. Washington has like, 4 gagillion of those. They mean squat.

Play seems to slip when guys sign big money contracts. Sather loves to hand out big money contract. Coincidence?
