IM NOT LOOKING FOR THAT....AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

It friggin drives me crazy, in fact.

That leaves us with two options, then. Go to the Tortorella model, or build a really tough, mean team.

Nashville beat us up yesterday with tough defenders and a good forecheck. That's a team that isn't expensive to model after.

Maybe Sather should "tap the Rockies" himself since Colorado clearly knows how to build a young team.

Behind door #3 is forgetting about this season and committing to a long-term plan, any long-term plan. This shouldnt have to be a Tortorella vs. non-Tortorella style choice.

They can still stay with this offensive minded fantasy, but they better acquire the players to execute it

It's also a team dead last in the division.

the vets we have cant get it done.

our all world goalie is having an off year.

the kids that are playing now cant score

the yutes in hartford dont look ready

every day it becomes clearer that this organization is just a hot mess void of offensive talent.

its time to make some bold moves to shake this organization at its core. if av is the way we want to go, playing his uptempo system, then we must assemble players that can play his system. that means, dmen that can skate the puck and forwards that have the ability to hit the net.

torts got his guys. he assembled his team with the players he needed to play his system. he rolled 1 2nd line and 3 4th lines out there and played rope a dope.

GONE IN DEALS

cally
del zotto
girardi
stepan
beever

and every other forward other than kreider, zuc, nash and hagelin.

everyones in play.

call up kristo, mcilrath and miller and lets see if those guys can do any worse ?

Which, asterisk attached, has been missing their top goaltender for almost the whole season.

St. Louis Blues would be another example.

So basically let's model the team around a team that relies heavily on their goaltender and a tenacious forecheck. Ladies and gentlemen your 2011-2012 New York Rangers! That train has come and gone. The window is closed.

St. Louis is the full package. Youth, skill, grit, tenacity. They can wear you down and score goals. If it wasn't for the streaky goaltending they'd be hands down the best/most complete team in the league.

It's laughable how underrated Stepan is on this board.

He's a hell of a lot more of the solution than the problem.

I'm spitballing ideas, because I have no clue how to fix this team. First time since the lockout I think the team doesn't have enough drive to pull themselves out of it.

I'd recommend selling UFA's and starting a rebuild, but that'd be tough to watch after the Giants season and Henrik would be 36 by the time things came together.

you gotta give to get. hes a solid 2c guy.

i add him to a package of say del zotto and stepan, dangle that and see what that brings back

i absolutely move him if the right deal is there. you cant get better without offering something of value.

this organization needs to get more talented. period.

I think they should sell everything that isn't nailed down.

But its not going to take 5 years to come together, if done right. Callahan/Girardi/Del Zotto - those guys should net NHL players in return.

The Rangers could retain some salary/cap hit in any deal involving a rental such as Girardi or Callahan. Its only for the rest of this season. Callahan has a salary of $4.8M this season.

That isn't to suggest that I don't really like a lot of guys on this team. Hagelin, Kreider, Zuccarello have been great for us, I think McDonagh is already a star defenseman and Moore will be eventually.

Everyone knew this year with all the UFAs would be pivotal. Besides Lundqvist, Callahan and Girardi are the two longest tenured NYR players. It would be a big move for this franchise to release them.

Rangers have the rest of the month to get their **** together. If they are going to make major changes, they need time to shop players. Olympic break is from Feb 9 to 25th. The trade deadline is March 5th, a week after the the NHL starts up again.

i dont thinks theres any question that those 2 guys have to go and if we have to take back some salary to do it, we do.

both guys under performing fa's who still have league wide cred and value.

These are players that guys on the main board are talking about giving 6 million a year contracts to, I think we can move them pretty easily without having to take back bad contracts.

NYR could get a 1st and a top prospect for each.

But trading one of our best young players in order to bring in other good young players is a lateral move at best. Stepan is a great 2C. He's very good defensively and can put up points. Older players like Girardi, Cally and Richards, yeah, no problem with trading them away. But Stepan is absolutely part of the solution.

If it was Stepanov you'd probably have him as untouchable lol

I understand but we need depth down the middle(everywhere really) not just 1 really good C which no one is usually trading anyways.

I guess, my point is how often/realistic that an actual upgrade at C is available? I think that list is pretty short.

We aren't 1 player away anyways. We need to have a solid team, line after line putting pressure on.

Theoretically I'd trade Nash for a "true" 1C over Stepan. I prefer depth at C & finding W's over the opposite.

My $.02

Contracts are pro-rated starting in January, I believe. Players will become cheaper as we head towards the deadline. AV threw Sather under the bus. Tortorella played the personnel card, as well. Maybe Sather will take a hint.

He's also only 23.

What do you think you'll get back? A better 2nd line center?

i absolutely move him if the right deal is there. you cant get better without offering something of value.

Of course, but again, what do you really see him returning that is definitely an upgrade?

this organization needs to get more talented. period.

They do. I don't think dealing a 23 year old 2nd line center fixes that without creating another hole to fill.

Contracts are prorated the entire year, but retaining salary is still an attractive selling point.
