3C is not a position I am worried about because NYR have two good prospects that are not far away from being able to hold down that spot.

NYR passed up on an aging Michael Peca to let Dubinsky handle #c duties, and he ended up fitting with Jagr better than Gomez and Drury, and potted 40 points.

Rangers should let Miller be a center and stop moving him to every position on the ice except defense and goal.. let him get comfortable as a centerman..

Jeez, you make one off-hand comment about drafting too many defenseman and 5 pages later...

Anyway... the McIlrath pick wasn't the mistake. As much as Del Zotto has turned out to be an arguably good defenseman (let's please not argue over that here), taking him when Sanguinetti was already in the system was a strategical error, in my opinion. McIlrath fits a role no one else in the organization did or does. DZ was redundant, and while it worked out, the wheels were a little bit off the wagon at that point.

Because he struggles with the defensive responsibilities of a center.

But yet he plays center in the AHL on the Wolfpack. i know its a different league and the speed is different at the NHL level, but why not let Miller learn on the ice for the Rangers as a center.. let him make those struggles. it will only help him in the long run... pushing him to wing here and center in the AHL might have something to do with those struggles by switching positions..

There really wasn't any good forwards besides Eberle that came after DZ.

In the 2010 draft there were some good offensive forwards that went in the first round after McIlrath from what I remember.

That's what I feel right now as well. Stick him between Cally and Hagelin who are two defensively responsible forwards who can help him if need be.

Ennis... but that kind of thing is impossible to say. Different organization, different development process... different outcome for a player, potentially.

Trade Boyle for a 2nd. Trade Moore for a 2nd. Role player rentals are traded for late 2nd rounders. They don't fit in the Rangers plans for next season. Doug Wilson traded Clowe to the Rangers for a 2nd in 13,3rd in 13 and 5th in 14. Murray was traded to Pitt for a 2nd in 13 and a 2nd in 14. Both Clowe and Murray were rentals. SJ was a playoff team and they traded both players after determining they were not in the long-term plans.

Staal's salary jumps from $3.875M to $5.45M next season. Next season is his first group III year. He turns 27 next month. The Rangers have not gotten much value from that 5 year contract. 10-11 was the first season and Staal suffered the concussion. He missed the first 3 months in 11-12. Suffered the eye injury last season. Suffered a concussion this season. 14-15 is the last year at $5.45M in real dollars. Hopefully he doesn't miss too much time. DZ gets a chance to play and increase his value.

It's been said this year's draft is very deep.

This isn't the year to be trading away picks. We already lost our 2nd in the Clowe trade.

I agree. Move the role players you can. Maybe someone offers a late round pick for Pouliot thinking he can help with their depth scoring. Off-load some of these players...

Trade was 2nd 13 2nd 14 4th, no?

Poo will hit waivers.
Pyatt might get us a 5th or 6th.
Moore a 3rd? 2nd if teams get desperate? He's not producing points. Tough to gauge the value of someone who doesn't produce points.
Boyle a 2nd? Change of scenery guy. Losing him would hurt this particular group of players. He's one of the few that actually give a ****.
Girardi could really net you some future pieces. Definite first and likely top 3 prospect.
Staal same deal. Not a doctor but I'm hoping he returns in 2 months or less from this concussion. A return from Staal this season with dominant play would allow us to trade him for something similar to Girardi's worth - first round pick and a top 2 or 3 prospect.

Is this Sather's M.O? No. We're going to be buyers. Let's not get disillusioned here with what would be the sensible thing to do.

oof...please tell me that stat is wrong...it just.....hurts to read that.

Very late reply.

As others have said, sadly that stat is not wrong. The last ranger drafted fwd who cracked 60 was Amonte in 91-92 and 92-93.

Since 97 (the York draft) the rangers are one of four teams who haven't drafted a fwd who has scored 60 for their team (flames, yotes, leafs). The best record is 5 60+ fwds which the bruins and sharks have done.

since 97, 77 fwds have reached 60 pts for the team that drafted them. Does it all mean anything? Probably not...

You actually think we could get a 2nd rounder for D.Moore? That's a stretch

I'm not as big on SELL SELL SELL as some other guys are here, but when you trade depth guys who aren't the long-term solution you get both the haul from the trade and the open spot. Maybe the kid or the waiver wire wonder who comes in to play 4th line LW starts to look like something. Maybe the third body you try does. It's a low hit rate, especially with the pulling teeth that the Rangers organization always makes out of finding bottom six types, but this is the best example of a team that needs a spark to come from somewhere I can think of in a while.
