What scares you about him? His skating? That is what make me hesitant.
BRB's comments about Fast actually bode quite well for him. He had similar things to say about Kreider last year and after he was cut this season as well. Now look at him.

Playing 10 minutes a game with Boyle and Pyatt will do that to you. The team also didn't score many goals in general during that time with Callahan, Hagelin and Nash all out.

Obviously misinterpreted. You can get a 20 goal guy. It is very hard to find a 40 goal guy. You have to normally trade for one or draft a 40 goal scorer. 20 goal guys, you could sign in free agency. Look at Ryder. 3.5 million. Has scored 30 before. They are available. Poor selection of free agents and drafted talent not being there yet. Have hopes for Miller, Kristo, and Fast to produce. Could not sign one this off season. Not enough cap. They have that now for next off season.
Also, it is not fair to judge all drafted players in the last 3 years looking to address current scoring woes. Unless you pick top 10, they normally are not top forwards unless they spike in development or until they are about 22-23 with pro experience. Need to get very lucky for a 19 yo player to produce 20 goals outside a top 10 pick.
The fact he doesn't have an elite center to play with here.
This is why most of the guys you endorse should scare you even though they dont.
Moulson has 4 goals in 17 games with Buffalo.

That and it's a simple, easy and lazy move. Just throw more cash at the problem.

And when Kreider started playing well, I admitted it. Im not one to get caught up in getting attached to a prospect. Fast stunk in his first cameo - hopefully its better the next time around, if there is a next time.

The way Buffalo has played as a team it is a miracle he has any. Crosby would have a tough time managing a PPG the way that team is performing.
It might be the worst NHL team in a season since 04-05 lockout.

You keep saying how it's easy to find 20 goal players. Why have the rangers only found 4 in the past 15 years?
It's fine moving 20 goal guys for 40 goal guys if you have an endless supply of 20 goal guys to replace them with.
Rangers don't. Not even close. That's why they have no depth or top talent. They turn 3 20 goal guys into one 40 goal guy and wonder why the goal numbers don't go up. It's simple math...

He has 11 point sin 17 games on a team that creates no offense whatsoever. Who is he playing with in Buffalo? Last I saw, he had Ennis playing with him, is he an elite center?

Well he was a NA rookie playing with the likes of Asham, Powe, Boyle and Pyatt.
Same general principle.
I get the fear of what contract he will receive, that is why I mentioned Cammelleri. Maybe he takes less and for a shorter duration. LWer.

How many goals he'll score, I have absolutely no idea. Could be anywhere from 15-40. But Moulson is not a solution in himself. We need a better bottom 6 as well.

Well I think this is how Sather and the rest of the organization feels. Lundqvist is not playing well either and he got his extension. Cally has had success on this team to deny him an extension is crazy.
I just don't understand why some people are raking on him. His numbers are nowhere near bad, and he has excuses, as does Nash. Yeah he needs to pick it up totally agree with that, but so does everyone on the entire team with the exception of maybe Zucc and McD.

I think, like most UFA's, it all depends on price. If he falls somewhere in the 5 million range, he is a decent signing. I happen to think he is a 30 goal scorer consistently. He scores goals from near the net quite a bit and has a high hockey IQ. He fills a huge hole as a top-6 LW as well.
Cammelleri is another option like I said.
The bottom-6 needs to add some truculence though as well. Kreider helps the top-6 a bit, would be nice to add another player like that. Callahan used to be that player.
I agree that Fast looked lousy, but I think implying that there's no reason to be optimistic about him is a little over the top. I think he has the tools to be an NHL player, but the injury problems are what are really starting to worry me.

No problem trading Callahan. He along with Girardi will be another Drury or Redden. Old at 29 and not nearly the same player.

Interesting discussion about the drafting. The drafting has definitely gotten better since 08. I think the next step is try to move up in the draft to get better players. That's the only way I see them get top end talent without tanking or some luck to get another top end talent drop in their lap.
Develop your players, be patient with them and watch them grow. These ad hoc decisions to rebuild every few years, or sign big ticket free agents (unless they are a young difference maker) doesn't do it for me.
I have no problem being patient if the team continues to be watchable and competes hard.

The next group of players that "aren't playing up to their potential," and/or "need to play in the top 6 to be effective."
I think what a lot of people need to realize about waiting until the trade deadline is that by then most teams will know where they stand. Thus likely increasing the number of teams who are trying to sell off their players. Sometimes it's much better to make the call early on in the year, commit to it, and get ahead of the meat market.
Also, whatever happened to that mysterious player evaluation deadline AV spoke about? We're over a third of the way through the year and nothing has happened.
