Stepan had 18 in 48 last year.

Hagelin had 10 in 48 last year.

Kreider has 7 in 24 this year.

Kristo, Fast, Miller and Lindberg look to be solid prospects. Who knows how they turn out. Unless you pick in the top-5, it's hard to just say "well this player is a sure-fire 20+ goal scorer in the NHL". It's hard to score that amount of goals.

Stepan already scored 20. Kreider i said could. Hagelin is unlikely. Think he's more of a 15 goal guy.

Like you said, it's hard scoring 20. So I'm not going to give Hagelin credit for almost doing it when he hasent.

I just don't see prolific goal scorers in any of the prospects they have. Kristo is the one maybe.

Moulson would help tremendously. So would someone like Cammelleri.

Each would, but if you're going a route where you replace Callahan with someone like Moulson and Richards with someone like Cammalleri, you really need a fast, physical bottom 6. It's just too soft otherwise.

oof...please tell me that stat is wrong...it just.....hurts to read that.

It's worse.

The Last Rangers drafted player since 1990 to score more than 57 points in a Rangers jersey is Kovalev in 95-96

Doug Weight drafted 1990 - Nope
Kovalev 1991 - 58 pts in 95-96
92 nope
93 nope
94 nope
95 nope
96 nope
97 Mike York
98 nope
99 nope
00 nope
01 nope
02 nope
03 nope
04 nope close though with Callahan and Dubi both hitting 54 pts
05 nope
06 nope
07 nope
08 nope close though with Stepan hitting 51 pts and on pace for 75 pts during the strike shortened 12-13 season
09 nope
10 nope
11 nope
12 nope
13 nope

It's a very pathetic list

I really think the death of Cherapanov is really understated sometimes. The reverberations of losing a top prospect one who should have gone top 5 in his draft year is tremendous.

But his death was in 09 i believe, which really does make the McIlrath pick in 2010 over a Tarasenko all the more peculiar. We had plenty of defensive prospects and young dmen and our offensive cupboard was bare besides Kreider who was extremely raw and more of a projection than anything.

Sorry to beat a dead horse though.

Brad Richards is a signing I did not like.

BRB - Never has anything positive to say regarding the Rangers...

I promise you Ill be very happy when we get a new GM and this team goes in another direction.

One that predominately doesnt involve thinking every and any player can help out here.

I agree. But they need scoring.

Apparently according to BRB, we should just sulk in our mediocrity and not discuss anything except for what he deems as worthwhile discussion, like how much this team sucks...and stuff.

Cherepanov had a heart condition and likely would have never played in the NHL anyway. But lets keep that myth alive that he wouldve been the answer that lead this team to score goals.

When will people stop this fascination with stupid Russian prospects who are soft, lazy and basically all leave for the KHL after a while. I can't believe we still have fans that don't get the McIlrath pick. You must be watching games with your eyes closed because teams have been abusing our players all season because McIlrath isn't up yet. It was the correct pick. It was a perfect pick. Our pansy defenseman core has nobody on it that can fight, throw a check or intimidate. All things McIlrath brings to the table.

Adding another 20 goal scorer wouldn't have helped? I think the idea was, "if he hadn't had a heart condition which most teams missed", he would have helped out a lot.

And it went just about as poorly as it could.

Solid prospect though! Whats worse is that he was deemed the most NHL ready to start this season.

He was deemed more ready than Kreider. Then they switched and Kreider is playing well. What's the harm in getting him some games in the NHL? Most people projected him as another Hagelin, was he supposed to come in and outscore Crosby playing in the bottom-6 when the team was blown out of every game?

I actually thought fast was good. He just couldn't score. He was pretty sound defensively and had good chances here and there.

I don't condone our drafting, but I'd certainly consider Kreider a good chance to be a gamebreaker at this point, unless your definition is a Crosby, Ovechkin, etc.

You're sort of right. Besides the game day thread, this thread of the 2nd biggest cesspool on this board - prone to reactionary statements and thoughts that have no importance whatsoever.

I just can't help myself. Its amusing to see just how many poor options you can endorse for a trade or call up, like its going to help.

He's gone. Stop bringing up his name. The Rangers gambled and lost. The guy I wanted all along in that draft was Pacioretty. If they had taken him, the Rangers would have Kreider, Nash and Pacioretty which is absurd. Three power forwards like that. They didn't do that.

What has killed this team is that Sauer and Staal are basically finished because of concussions. People forget about Sauer. He was turning into an awesome defenseman. Defensively, he was better than McDonagh is now IMO.

It didn't go as poorly as it could. Try being objective. The game isn't all based on points. A kid who looks defensively sound and has some flashes of skill around the net is not a poor indication.

I'm sure your assessment of Callahan when he was called up and looked hardly mediocre was spot on as well.

It's called discussion. If you don't like it, you don't have to partake.

Yes I realize that he had a heart condition and probably would have never played. But the point is that if the heart condition was found before the draft we would have had an actual first round pick that year and maybe have gotten Perron or Subban. So not only do we not have a stud prospect but realistically we had no first round pick that year.

Also there is absolutely no reason to believe had he not had a heart condition he would have been a good NHL player. He was playing phenominally in the KHL. Again he was a projected top 5 pick. Usually those players pan out well in the NHL.

Strawman crap everywhere you look.

Do I expect a prospect to come up and be Crosby? No. Do I expect a prospect to come up and try making some sort of positive impact on the game while not going 0-0-0, -5, in 8 NHL games? Yes.

There are a heck of a lot of mid first round players that are in the top 20 in scoring. Getzlaf, Perry, Steen, etc.

And I like Kreider a lot. And stepan. But those are the only offensive talents they have drafted that have any sort of ability to push 50+ points. And that's in the past 9 years.
