Technically, there's still the option of the non-compliance buyout down the road.
Either way, I agree to an extent. If the decision has been made that this team is not a competitive team, then there's no need to replace Richards.
That begs the question, though. What exactly would a step backwards involve and how much of it are you comfortable with? For example, if Richards is bought out and Brassard isn't qualified, are you comfortable penciling in Miller and Lindberg as our 2 and 3 centers? Do we need to have warm bodies in the event those guys really need more AHL time?
I'm not entirely opposed to that kind of arrangement, I'm just curious what a long-term plan means, in practicality, for the near-term.
