I keep seeing this "talent" argument going on, but do you really need to have top-end talent to play like you give a ****? No, you don't. There is absolutely no excuse for this team not to bust it's ass every game. In fact, the lack of talent alone should be more than reason enough to do so.
I think it's a similar situation to Edmonton. Whereas Edmonton has become complacent in their losing, the Rangers have become complacent in their mediocrity. This group has realized that "<x> wasn't good enough" is simply lip service that's paid by the front office and the coaching staff. Now they've inherited it for their own vocabulary.
Unfortunately, the only real remedy is a pretty drastic change in leadership; starting with the front-office. Sadly, that will never happen. McKinsey can put together a 300 slide powerpoint to show to Dolan about how Sather has been flushing his money down the toilet for 12 years, but that's not going to change a thing as long as Sather can weasel this team into a first or second round playoff exit every year.
