Girardi is a UFA at years end. Why does he sign there? That's not a piece a struggling team wants. He won't help them this year except to possibly take them out of a top 5 pick.

Talbot is a rookie 25 year old back up. He holds small value.

Del Zotto is struggling.

I am pretty sure every team in the league would easily offer more than that.

Who else could give them that?

It would be a dick move but if push comes to shove sign and then trade G.

Bruce Garrioch

The Rangers have stepped up their efforts to try to move defenceman Michael Del Zotto, but the asking price is high with the club wanting a top-four blueliner in return. A lot of teams are involved but don’t want to do that. A lot of eyes will be on New York in the next few months. Now that goalie Henrik Lundqvist has signed a massive $59.5 million, seven-year extension expect talk to surface again that centre Brad Richards will be bought out. The Rangers need to sign right wing Ryan Callahan, centre Derek Brassard and defenceman Dan Girardi. They have approximately $39 million committed to nine players next season and will have to free up some cash. That’s why signing off on the struggling Richards might make sense. He’ll end up like Philly centre Vinny Lecavalier and get good money elsewhere

The Rangers don't need to re-sign Brassard. 1 year QO of $3.7M. Sign it.

Callahan and Girardi? How much term do they want? How much money do they want?

DZ might end up playing more and raising his value with the latest injury to Staal.

Have to think the healthy scratches against the Devils don't bode well for Michael Del Zotto (his third in six games) or Benoit Pouliot (his first). Not sure what the market is for Pouliot, on his fifth team in five years, but still hearing there's interest in Del Zotto. Rangers would like a defenseman back, preferably a righty . . . D Brady Skjei, 19, the Rangers first-round draft choice (28th overall) in 2012 and a freshman at the University of Minnesota, is on the preliminary roster for the U.S. Team in the World Junior Championships in Malmo, Sweden, which starts the day after Christmas

Skjei is a sophomore.

I'm not so sure we're trading Del Zotto with Staal's status uncertain.

I'd listen to offers on Callahan, but I wouldn't actively shop him.

Let's do this.
Trade Girardi, DZ, J Moore, Staal, Boyle, D Moore, Cally, Hagelin, and Brass, get futures for them. Let's see how this board reacts next season when they are struggling to look respectable in a game or turn the other cheek when challenged.

personally right now Brassard, Girardi and to an extent Callahan could all go elsewhere, we dont HAVE to sign any of them.

Well that should put us right there in the running for McDavid...

News for some people--Callahan did not lose the game for the Rangers last night. Two assists--+2--5 hits. Figured in the tying goal which got us one point anyway.

High sticks happen. Not necessarily a mental error such as not gaining the center line and icing the puck anyway causing your coach to use his only time out--an unforced error. Nor is it the same as watching the puck instead of taking the body and letting a guy walk around you in the last few minutes of regulation for a great shot on your goaltender.

The Rangers lost last night's game collectively as a team. If I were to point to players who really played well for us there would be only two--Zuccarello and McDonagh.

Where was Nash? Lundqvist--not a great night either.

Nash has stretches where he is the most dominant forward in the league and he also has stretches where he could be invisible. I hope last nights game was just an off night

totally agreee.. i dont understand why people are ready to just trade pieces after a loss in OT..

Callahan and girardi arent going anywhere.. both are leaders in our clubhouse..

Brass, DZ i think will be traded at the deadline forsure..

The Stepan line was not very good last night. Kreider found a way to put one in to get us to overtime but other than that there wasn't much. Nash batted one out of the air that Brodeur made a very good save on--that was it for them. It's nice that even on an off night that Kreider found a way to make a contribution.

Hopefully Callahan got his money's worth and at least loosened up a couple of Greene's choppers.;) I don't know if there is a team I hate losing to more than the Devils.

I agree. Nash and stepan were invisible for the most part. kreider did what he has been doing this season and was rewarded witha goal. However 9 times out of 10 this line will be our best line

At this point I'm not sure i want Cally on team USA. No way he's a top 12 American forward.

Trade him

Trade G, Staal, Boyle, Moore, Dorsett

I don't move MDZ now. If anything, now is the time to try him with McLIrath and see if that can be a bottom pair for the next 5-7 years.

I don't understand how anyone can insist Girardi and Callahan are such important pieces. They might have been at one time, but moving forward past this season they are not. Do people really think the Garden is going to be half empty if Sather makes 2-3 lateral moves and recycles assets for younger talent? IMO the Staal situation doesn't change this, it just means Del Zotto probably isn't going anywhere.
