I could live with getting rid one of Staal and Girardi, but replacing both of them may be difficult.

The defense was horrendous at the beginning of the season, then played decent for a while, but lately they have been inconsistent. I'd give it more time, but rather than dismantling our defense, AV may have to eventually adjust.

Unless we go on some torrent run these next 2 months, I'd seriously consider trading Girardi for 2 bluechip pieces - top prospect and a 1st, or 2/3 top 3 prospects, or what not. Paired with a Del Zotto trade (1 for 1) that should net us 3 pieces that should be part of our core moving forward over the next 5 years.

I want Staal to stay here, but if he insists on going to Carolina, I think Murphy and their first is more than a fair package.

5 pieces for 3 of our blue liners. Allen can fill in for MDZ. We need to see where McIlrath and Skjei stack up though.

Skjei is still 2 years away. McIlrath should get his shake at some point this season.

In addition to that, amnestying Richards, cutting some dead weight players, and trading away G and Staal will allow us to sign quality free agents at any position we need.

I think AV is going to get his players in. That's for sure.

UPDATE: Pouliot not practicing
On any lines today,
Pyatt on 3rd line- Vin

let the speculation begin

I 110% agree. Trade Stepan for a 1c? He is a 1c. The idea would be to get better at center, not trade 1 for 1 and still have a gaping hole.

I'd move Nash if the return was good.

Yeah.. Except he's not a 1C. He would be the third center on a bunch of contending teams in the league

A #2 center is a more pressing need than an upgrade on Stepan for the top line. I'm flabbergasted that people want to run him out of town. I'm not sold on Brassard being that guy.

That's not the point at all really. By bringing in an elite C you bump Stepan down to 2 where he should be anyway. Problem solved

Pyatt in his place .

For real though I'd jump for joy if that brainless sack was finally waived.

but Pyatt at least was practicing with the defense.. knowing the Rangers luck he is working on a contract extension with Glen Sather as we speak :sarcasm:

8 years, 3 mill AAV, Full NMC. Get it done Slats :sarcasm:.

Might we see a call-up soon? Haley would be nice, but he's injured.

maybe Kristo or someone like Hrivik deserves a look.. they cant be worse than Pouliot

I'd rather Hrivik. He looked good in preseason. Fits what we need in a 3rd liner right now.

Leave Kristo in the AHL. Let him keep playing big mins.

Pouliot should have been scratched weeks ago. The guy is worthless.

hes likely on the 4th D pair in practice. Did anyone say he's not on the ice?

Also with Hank locked up and Talbot next yr as well the team is set in goal.

Any chance they can flip Girardi for a top 4 cheaper RD? McDonaugh, Staal should stay, Moore likely does too. So DZ and Girardi I can see going even this yr.

Stralman needs to take a 2 million per deal or he may have to go too with the cap. McIrath should be ready for 6th D duties and Falk is proving to be a descent cheap spare

I still like Pouliot over Pyatt. Pyatt looks like he's skating through mud. I'd love to see Kristo and Hrivik up at some point. Hrivik might be ready now, but I'd rather take my time with Kristo. I'm pumped at the possibility of a Kreider - Stepan - Kristo line down the road though!!

Stralman should get 4 years at 3 per and he's worth it. I would offer him that today.

Stop using logic. It won't work...

There's not a single shred of logic in that post or yours for that matter. Just because he can't think if more teams doesn't mean they don't exist.

BOS/LA/SJ

Sense a recurring theme? The teams in which Stepan would be a third center are all elite. But continue ignoring the obvious. You love Stepan, we get it.

The day this team wins a cup with a 55 point player as their top center is the day I become the Queen of England. It needs to be addressed

that's a lot of yrs. Yes he has done real well. Guess I am just thinking the cap will be tight.

McIlrath is a cheaper option but he should start on 3rd pair so yes they need atleast one of Girardi / Stralman back. Stralman would be cheaper ad Girardi has better trade value right now.

It would be balzy to move Girardi but for the right price it has to be entertained. Thing is it may leave a hole this yr so I doubt they do anything with him

You've named 4 teams in total.

BOS/LA/SJ/PITT.

I can't think of any other teams.

Wouldn't the goal be to add another player like Stepan?

He was on pace for 75 points last year. On pace for 55 this year on a team starved for goals. Yeah, I'd take that.

Don't look now, Bergeron has 13 points in 27 games. So Stepan would be a top-6 center in Boston so you can take them off the list.

Mike Richards had 32 points in 48 games last year. On pace for 55 points. He must be awful too?
On pace for 62 points this year.

We get it, you hate Stepan and want someone with more 'flash'.

I like how you conveniently forget teams like Chicago, St. Louis, Vancouver, Anaheim, and Tampa who are also elite where he'd be at least their 2nd line center. There are different ways to win in this league, center depth isn't the end all strategy to win.

I think you have the agenda against Stepan, rather we're all just blind fanboys.
