No more ex-Blue Jackets, our quota is well past filled. I get targeting players and personnel from teams like the Red Wings, Blackhawks, and teams that have actually won something or have a winning culture, but stockpiling all these ex-BJs doesn't really make sense.

I hope to god not on Klesla. I was just saying that it looks like your atypical Sather move.

On McIlrath - pure speculation but I wonder of this is a leak to get teams calling on Girardi (or Stralman). Teams calling puts the Rangers in a relative position of strength compared to them calling around looking to dump him indicating he will not be resigned, allowing teams to lowball.

lefty shot, plays LD I imagine
I know he's played the right side of the ice before. His top D-partner this season has been David Schlemko, another LHD. I'd imagine Klesla played RD (well enough to get waived, anyways).

His top defense partners last season were Michael Stone and Derek Morris, a couple of RHDs.

How nice of Bryan Murray to offer his garbage. No Jim O'Brien? Elliotte Friedman reported the talks with DZ went nowhere with Ottawa. No wonder why.

I doubt it is some conspiracy on the rangers part. Unless of course sather was really offended by what Ottawa was willing to pay for MDZ.

I think this has been part of the process all along. Clarke mentioned the rangers reevaluating McIlrath around this time of the year. They may be impressed enough to call him up. Add some toughness to that defense.

Dreger spoke to his Rangers source with the his two tweets today. He had Torts getting canned if they lost to Boston. Its a pretty good source.

Are they vetted though?

Most reports suggest Torts' firing arose from the post-season player meetings, so I dunno man...

Came here to say the same thing. I understand wanting to get struggling players for discounted prices, but don't offer nickels and pennies for a quarter in return.

So, what's happened so far... ignoring the "Ott and NYR not a match stuff" is as follows:

Rangers: DZ is available
Senators: We are interested
Rangers: We'd like Marc Methot
Senators: No can do, how about Greening, Condra and Gryba?
Rangers: Nah, doesn't really address our needs. We'll put together another counter.

In other words, I don't think that negotiation is finished, as has been claimed twice that it is.

Bruce Garrioch writes that the Senators have “certainly shown an interest†in Michael Del Zotto. Rangers are looking for either Chris Neil or Marc Methot in return.

Marc Methot in return for Del Zotto?

That's far more ridiculous than Ottawa wanting Del Zotto for a package centering on Greening.

My concern is that the Rangers felt Marc Methot addressed their needs. That's not a knock on Methot by any stretch, but is a big, left-handed stay-at-home guy really what we want?

My only thought would be that the Rangers tried to flip Del Zotto for a guy like Methot, so they can trade him (or another defender) to a team that needs that kind of player and has a forward to give. I.e., it seems like Winnipeg or Edmonton could use a shutdown guy a lot more than another PMD.

Pretty sure Methot can play the right-side. So maybe they had a bite on Girardi? Then again, perhaps the team just thinks McDonagh and Moore are the OFD we need, and scoring up front is fine as it is.

I seem to remember that Methot played on the right in Columbus, as well. Maybe I'm remembering wrong. As for the Rangers feeling like he addressed their needs... it's probably equally possible that the Rangers view Methot as a better D than DZ and threw that out there to gauge the level of Ottawa's interest. Negotiations are a process, and someone is leaking this particular one. If the teams make a deal, the return for DZ won't be as good as DZ but will be better than Greening/Condra/Gryba.

Exactly.

Maybe, Stralmans played well meaning you dont notice him which is good for a D and is affordable. Giardi has seen better days but we wll need him if we expect to do something tbis year. Its a tough call because i think we lose him in FA. Some dippy GM will give him over 5 years at 5.5 plus.

If Ott wants DZ and Zbib is offthe table then we have to get Michalek back in a package if hes open to resigning in NY only then do i take a Gryba.

With Hagelin moving to top line, Nash goes back to right wing. Vigneault says he believes Nash is more comfortable on the right side.

This is why i chastise people for wanting ANOTHER RW.
