The Rangers need to take a long-term view. Enough with the ****ing band-aids. All of these lousy NY teams with their patch work BS. The Yankees refuse to sell at the deadline. Then they give a 30 year old catcher $100M if the 6th year of the contract vests. The Yankees had two years to prepare for $189M and they did nothing. The Giants refuse to deal Nicks because it wouldn't look good. The guy couldn't make it to the field in the important game on the season. The Jets are saddled with that suck Rex Ryan. The basketball teams are the two worst teams in the NBA. They throw players together. Every big name NBA player from 5 years ago. That only works when you have LeBron to save your ass. Did I miss anyone? The Mets. The Coupons are still counting their pennies from the Madoff mess.

Agreed. Band-Aids.

NYR rumored in deals on daily basis. Defenceman Dylan McIlrath has earned a chance given his play in AHL. Perhaps, a trade isn't necessary?

That would make sense to me. The McDonagh treatment.

Trade market is tough. We want your young promising players but we refuse to give up anything that would be of value to your team. Edmonton wants to fix their problem by dealing a 30 year old UFA injury case. Ottawa isn't giving up anything they don't want to give up.

Del Zotto is probably the most valuable name being bandied about right now. 23 year old puck moving D-man stuck behind 2 others and needing a change of scenery. Who else is available that's comparable to that?

OT, but I wouldn't blame Rex Ryan for the record of a team with huge, glaring holes in their roster. In fact I'd say he's done a decent job this year, all things considered.

Why is it on the first hint of a player succeeding at his level, we want to move him up? McIlrath has been good at the AHL level, not exceptional. Let him build on that. I doubt AV is too eager to find a spot for him after his preseason.

Agreed. Keep letting Falk play the bottom pairing if we're not looking to add a RHD to the team in a deal.

This - if and only if - Del Zotto is dealt. If not, let him and Falk keep fighting for it.

Though, I wouldn't be opposed to giving McIlrath a game or two to see what's up.

I think the plan was for him to go down and play 30-40 games and then come up ala McDonagh. They have Falk who can play as well if need be or they can acquire a #5/6 RD at the deadline for a late pick. Someone like Hannan last year who can fill a role.

This is how it works, he has proven he is one of the better d-man down there, now time to give him a shot.

It's less than a week till the calendar turns to December. This is right on schedule for McIlrath. Clarke said the plan was to reevaluate around this time.

A short stint like Erixon's late season stint I think could and maybe should be done. I think handing him the reigns is a bit ambitious at this point.

They have a player in Falk who could handle the minutes if he doesn't look ready after a 7-10 game stretch. Like I said, if all else fails, find a cheap RD at the deadline for next to nothing to play 12-15 minutes a night.

hmmm Greening and Gryba is not a bad offer but NYR must think they can do better so good wait it out.

McIlrath ready? I assume next yr he will replace Stralman due to the cap

That's a horrendous offer...

I'd claim dagostini. Another guy who is inconsistent but can possibly fit 3rd line role. Pens have no use for him. Him and Pouliot can fight for that role of inconsistent 3rd liner we hate. Plus no commitment to him. Can waive if he doesn't serve purpose.

Klesla has Sather's name written all over it

D man

Played for the Jackets. SamuelssonI think coached him when part of Coyotes coaching staff and Arniel knows him from his days with the Bluejackets.

I doubt they do it and I imagine even if they wanted to a crappier team will take him

Can it even fit in the cap?

This.

I really like that the organization is giving some of our young dmen chances to play their way onto the team. If McIlrath isn't ready, he'll be sent back down. No big deal. But, at least he got a shot after playing well and being a good soldier with the Pack. You keep players motivated and hungry that way. We lost two assets in Kundratek and Valentenko for basically nothing becase they didn't get a shot here. Now, neither one of them is all that special, but young bottom-pair dmen still have some value.
