Dion gets a LOT of unnecessary flak on HF Boards. Some people would have you believe he's the worst player in the NHL.

I agree that Girardi just can't flourish in AV's mobile system. It's better for him and the team if we let him go.

Phaneuf would only command about 1-2 mill more than Girardi. I would gladly throw that at him in the open market.

Unless his play takes a huge nosedive, I still want Stralman on this team at the end of the year.

Im a righty, but when I played, I shot left-handed. Huge assumption on my part, but I bet theres a lot of NHL'ers that do the same thing.

I did the same thing. Dominant hand on top of the stick.

God, I only played street hockey for fun, but I shot right and am right-handed. Just the idea of putting my right hand at the top of the stick feels so wrong. However, I remember reading here somewhere this is common with young players who learn the game early with the intent of playing competitively. Dominant hand at the top of the stick.

I hate the idea after what he did to Sauer, but it was a clean hit and I guess if it made the Rangers a better team in the end, you have to do it.

I forgot about that. It was really a clean hit though. It's not his fault Sauer's head was buried.

Most of the lockerroom wasn't even on the team when that happened, actually. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem.

I am so confused reading this thread. Who are we getting in the trade? It seems like everyone and their mother was discussed in here.

Thats what this thread is here for.

I come in for a chuckle, specifically because pretty much every single player on the block is endorsed as a worthwhile addition to the Rangers.

Depends on who you ask.

I think some players are just thrown in to the mix for the sake of discussion despite not being a good fit or unrealistic.

Girardis contract negotiations have always seemed to be relatively "Easy"...he doesnt seem to ask for a ton, just what hes worth.

a good soldier, and i think he's been fine this year, lots of overreaction on a few bad games early in the season learning the new system.

4 years 4 mil per...

i am also right handed. write right, throw right. but i play golf right handed and i play to a 3.7 index so i play alot and i will play anyone in a 5/3/1 nassau for money....

i played hockey as a lefty though. right hand on top of stick which is the complete opposite of the way i golf which i always thought was odd. with golf clubs my right hand is the lower hand.

but i do putt left hand low...

Would the Leafs or Rangers do a Phaneuf for Girardi swap? We'd have to add a little IMO, but ufa for ufa.

Americans are more often right shots than left. Due to baseball, more right handed bats. Look at Canadian ball players. Majority are left handed. Most here in the states pick up a bat before a hockey stick. Rangers have a mix though. Some US left and Right. I see the trend more with Canadian ball players than US hockey players.

Why should we do that? Girardi is part of the core. Would hurt team chemistry. Probably can't retain either at the end of the season.

Trading Girardi would really be throwing in the towel.

edit: before I get someone saying I'm oblivious to Girardi's evident decline and need to maximize value when we can... I'm hopeful we can make some sort of run this year. Holding onto Girardi and not getting anything for him seems stupid but what would also be stupid is for the Rangers to lose such an integral component of their locker room right when the team is clicking.

Girardi is regressing. If his demands are high, which they probably will be, he shouldn't be retained. But trading him for the sake of trading him (i.e a swap with Phaneuf) is stupid. Not trading him would be a better option. Trading him for the future could help us out for then but we are a win now team, and being that, we should not trade him.

Toronto wouldn't do that. Their D is SIGNIFICANTLY worse without Phaneuf.

Girardi's like:

I couldn't imagine anything less than 5 years or $5M per. David Jones got $16 million / 4 years.

I'm a righty but prefer Left Wing. Being able shoot off the pass with a cleaner angle on the goalie seems more fitting for me when I was playing.

Also felt more natural moving from my left to my right with the puck.

i like being on the off wing too. same as with soccer. always found it easier to be open to the play, being able to cut towards goal on forehand/strong foot.
