Semin is horrible. If anybody didn't see Carolina getting suckered when he signed that second contract with them, they need to go out and pay for Lasik.

I'd be just fine with Semin if the money made more sense and he wasn't concussed. This stigma he has about being lazy is pure conjecture. He's been fantastic for the Canes.

He's got 3 goals in 20 games. He gets hurt often and if he's not scoring he's not doing much else. Regardless of the money, HUGE pass.

Oh please. The guy is a proven and dynamic offensive presence. He's also improved the areas of the game that caused people to slight him as a "lazy Russian". You're talking out of your ass.

Semin was a free agent a few years ago and he could only get a 1 year contract worth $7M. Then Rutherford gave him $35M.

3 goals this season. That's dynamic? He's scored in the past, but unfortunately time moves forward. How many years has this guy disappeared in the playoffs (unless he was playing us)? He's inconsistent. Our team needs more inconsistency? If he was here and he had only scored 3 goals so far this season people would be going *******. This guy is supposed to be a goal scorer. What's he doing if he's not scoring?

It has nothing to do with him being a "russian", but you're using that as an excuse. That's he's being persecuted for his nationality. Did I mention the word "russian" in any of my posts? I don't care what his nationality is.

He has scored 25 goals twice
He has scored 30 goals twice
He has scored 40 goals once.

Last year he put up 44 points in 44 games played. He missed just 4 games.

Everyone battles injuries. He is a sniper. The Rangers need another sniper. I am not advocating for Semin in particular, but it is not as outrageous as you make it seem. They need goal scorers, that's the bottom line. He is 29 years old. The only thing that would hold me back is the money.

What's he done this year? That's all I care about. How he's playing now. The 40 goals he scored once doesn't help us now.

3 goals this year. We need goal scorers who are actually going to score goals.

He played well last year. He's been a disappointment this year. With that contract and now a concussion - horrible.

You honestly think he'd finish the year averaging 3 goals every 20 games? Aside from one bad playoff run, he's actually been a very solid player in the post season.

Sorry, you lost me as soon as you tried to make it seem like this was going to be the norm for him because "time moves forward", when in reality it's based on nothing more than your disdain for the guy.

That's your own fault for being extremely shortsighted.

Pretty naive if you think he is going to finish with say 10 goals this year. He had 13 in 44 games last year. He is a 25 per year goal scorer. He'll snap out of it.

If this guy is a dynamic goal scorer, he sure hasn't showed that since he signed that new contract and if he's available, less than a year after signing that contract, there's a reason why. Couple that with the money he makes and now a concussion. Easy, easy, pass.

If somebody on this board makes a comment on a player, who happens to be Russian, the immediate response is that he's been persecuted for his nationality. It's a knee jerk reaction to try to discount somebody. You didn't disappoint.

I don't care what he did in the past. I care about how he is playing now. He has been a disappointment this year, plain and simple. We have enough disappointing forwards on this team right now.

I think all of this is moot anyways as I don't think Semin is the type of player this team needs. They need another player with size who can take the fight to the other teams defense and wear them down over 60 minutes or a 7 game series.

I think you are a great poster but man this is hypocritical. I see you arguing with fans on the main trade board about Del Zotto's trade value, how he still holds a good deal of value AND is a good player DESPITE a down year. Yet the same doesn't apply to Semin?

Del Zotto is younger, plays a different position and is playing behind two other players which is affecting his play. He's a relatively healthy player and doesn't make a **** ton of money. What's Semin's excuse?

Just like Alex Steen probably isn't finishing the year with 65 goals, Semin isn't going to end up with 10. These things ebb and flow.

That point alone makes it completely pointless to even try and discuss this. "I don't care about that stuff! I only care about what supports my opinion!" That's before I even take into account the fact that you ignored my point about "if the money worked" and started droning on and on about his contract.

Your opinion. Easy, easy pass.

How did this discussion of the Canes get started? Just speculation?

Do the points he's scored in the past somehow help us now? How is he playing RIGHT NOW. That's what matters. Cheechoo scored 50 once, should we get him?

Its impossible to ignore the money because the money doesn't work and won't. Otherwise we're just dealing in fantasy land. I'd love a lot of players if the money worked out.

Yeah it is. Although Ruutu and Tlustys names are out there in rumors. Personally, I would love to get Ruutu if he could stay healthy. He's pretty much exactly what we need. Also had a rough start to the year offensively. (I don't think you can find a Cane who hasn't). Contract could be an issue, but not a huge one.

You're kidding right? Did you see our UFAs coming up? In no way is it justifiable to have Ruutu on the books for 5M/season till the end of his deal. Just not what I have in mind anyway.

Yeah. I'm not as worried about it as you are. Depending on Cap rise, it's probable that we'd be able to handle the raises needed without even buying out Richards. We are going to buy out Richards. It's really not as iffy as people are making it out to be. As happens every year.

Plus, you could probably get Carolina to retain some salary.

I'd be hesitant, though, simply because of the injuries.

Seriously? Cheechoo had one fluke year. Semin has been a good player year after year.
