The wing is what we need. DZ for that would be alright but I'd probably want a little bit more in addition...I might be on the greedy side there.

Either a top six wing on a good contract or the guy on the brink and a prospect. Just talking about main pieces really. But yes I'd expect more in return than just the one player I described in my previous post. I'd also expect Pouliot to be moved which frees up a bit more cap.

I'm certainly not against trading Del Zotto, especially for offense, but we may wind up with a forward with similar inconsistency issues.

If the organization thinks they have a shot at it come the trade deadline, I think trying to get Ott and maybe Tallinder as a depth defenseman would be great for a playoff run. Ott would certainly upgrade the third line.

In an ideal world, the Goligoski trade would be the model for moving Del Zotto. A 20 goal scorer with some upside, and a bottom-pairing defender who needs a change of scenery. Unfortunately the cap constraints make that pretty tough.

If you can get picks for MDZ, or a Connolly and a 2nd, or a straight up 1st, I would take it. Everyone mentions the cap, and the Rangers still have to sign Girardi, Stralman, and Moore in addition to MDZ. Not to mention signing Staal after his current is finished. This team needs McD, Staal, and Girardi for at least the next four years. Moore will be a cheap bridge contract. Stralman can probably be signed for 2.75 - 3 mil. MDZ will not be cheap. The smart thing is trade him for high picks, or a mid to high prospect and a mid level pick. Bring up McI and sign Falk to a 2 yr contract for 1.1 each.

Why would they trade Del Zotto for picks? Makes little sense

If MDZ is traded it will be for someone who can play in the NHL, consistently. It isn't going to be a pick.

Until Staal is resigned maybe we shouldnt trade DZ. Losing 2 LD and possibly Girardi would be pretty disastrous

There's little chance that the Rangers lose both Staal and Girardi to free agency. Not to mention that Del Zotto is a RFA and arbitration eligible this offseason. He'll require a raise from the 2.5 million he's making now. It becomes a numbers game too. He's the best trade able asset we have to improve the team all the while not losing too much in the back end. The Rangers should be looking to get a young forward with upside. I'd kick the tires on any young centers available as well, Richards and even Brassard may not be on the team next year.

If you can get a good deal for DZ, you don't back out because Staal MIGHT leave in two years.

This, that would be poor asset management.

It's a waste having MDZ play < 20 mins on the 3rd pairing and he just isn't adjusting to playing >20 mins on the right side. MDZ is fine young player, will be a damn valuable and good defensemen in this league. But not on this team that has McD and Staal on the left side.

There's a very good chance that he gets traded and then a good chance that he plays quite well on his team (assuming he gets 20+ minutes on the left side with a suitable partner). People are going to complain and say " Ugh, why did we trade him, he's playing so well!! Fire Sather and AV!!". Just no, two fantastic defenseman in front of him, he just doesn't have the minutes needed to be successful here and isn't versatile enough to play the right side.

Minnesota and Anaheim, based on what I've been told and read, seem to be our best trading partners. They have young and up and coming RD and solid two way forwards.

Agreed on not worrying about Staal's plan. Besides, you gotta at least hope that Moore will be ready for regular top-4 duty in two years. If that's the case, we very well could see Staal get dealt. Allen looks very promising, so we could be looking at LHD group of McDonagh, Moore and Allen in 2 years time. Plus you never know who will be dealt/acquired between now and then.

Luke Schenn for JVR

Alex Goligoski for James Neal and Matt Niskanen

TB got a #1(19th overall-Andrei Vasilevski) in 2012 for Kyle Quincey in a 3 way deal with the Avs and Red Wings

Keith Ballard for Michael Grabner and late #1 in 2010(Quinton Howden)

Brent Burns for Charlie Coyle,Devin Setoguchi and late #1 in 2011(Zack Phillips). Burns was one year away from group III at the time

All encouraging and point to the fact that players like MDZ hold really good value around the league.

What do you think Rangerboy, what is a realistic trade scenario that could play out?

17 scouts scheduled at #mnwild #nhljets gm, including USA, Jari Kurri from Finland and 3 Rangers (Risebrough, Mike Barnett, Tommy Thompson)

Tommy Thompson is an amateur scout. He knows the young guys in preparing for the draft. A little perspective on how those players have progressed. Barnett returned to the organization after retiring to spend more time with his family.

Rangers-Wild trade.

Jets have a few good wingers. Not sure about the cap though...

I would be very curious about what a Del Zotto-Brassard package (maybe more) could get a team like the Jets who need LHD and are desperate for a C. Would be intereting to see what could be yielded.

Also with Minnesota, I don't think they would deal Coyle, but they would probably send something nice with Zucker. Wonder what Zucker and Dumba would cost.

Our center depth without Brassard isn't good.

Rangers had previously been interested in Byfgulien, could be that.

Need a winger after seeing how things have gone the last few games. Nash will help but we are still scorer deficient.

I know no one wants to deal a 1st we need youth but what if it was part of a deal for Kane? How would u guys feel about dz 1st prospect for Kane?
