IMO Brett Connolly would be ideal. Big kid who skates well and has a high offensive ceiling that seems to be struggling this season as well. Del Zotto has a good relationship with Stamkos, they can use another solid defenseman who can grow with their team.

Del Zotto + Pouliot for Connolly + Gudas

It'll be DZ for someone else who's struggling or playing out of their minds and may be overvalued. Yak, Zibby, Statsny come to mind.

I'd take this deal and run.

So would I. Connolly has really struggled this year, new start for each player but MDZ has a longer track record and is much more proven at a harder position.

Pouliot isn't working in NY especially with the return of Nash and the addition of Connolly. He had very good success last year in TB. Keep some of his salary for this season.

I like Del Zotto but it looks more and more like it makes sense to deal him. He is a 35 point 22 year old defenseman who logs minute. I still think if he can get his head on straight he could pot 45+ points. But he overthinks the game too much in everything he does all the way down to his timing of shots and accuracy.

Having said that...I laugh at how people, AFTER ONE GAME, think we can trade MDZ because the defense with Falk in their played well. Let's see how he plays over a couple of games. Not to mention MTL was playing on back to back nights and it was our offense that had a huge step on them. I am not saying the defense wasn't good nor am I saying Falk played bad because he definitely made some good plays. BUT you don't trade DZ because of one good game from Falk.

I would like to see MDZ dealt to the west. Please god no to Brian Campbell. No to Perron. If you don't get the right deal you keep MDZ.

I don't get why everyone's intent on moving 23 year old DZ with the cheap cap hit when Girardi's deal is about to expire. We need a #1 RHD with actual offensive ability. G is solid on the shutdown but he's about to cost us a fortune if we want to keep him, and his offensive game is non-existent. DZ will only get better, G will only get steeper in price....

DZ's inability to competently play the right side makes him irrelevant to the Girardi situation. That inability essentially renders Del Zotto a bottom pairing defenseman because Staal and McDonagh are both far better than him. I like the Demers idea. I'd flip Del Zotto for him straight up.

DZ on the right side was Pejorative Slured anyways, he could barely defend competently playing his natural side. He's also young, cheap, and he has the best raw offensive ability of all our D men easily aside from perhaps Johnny Moore. I'd be more worried about trying to move defensive D man on the left side, Marc Staal, to make room for our highest ceiling OD on the left side in the top 4. It's not exactly like we have Karlsson on our team, we desperately need offense from the back end and DZ is the guy we drafted and have been developing to provide that for quite a while now. Once McIlrath is ready and DZ is played with more confidence, I think we can have a mini Leetch-Beuk thing going on the second pair.

I saw what Healey said. Money in and money out. The Rangers have less than $1M in cap space. 13 teams are using long-term IR to run their teams. The Rangers will need to maintain that space to run the team. Short term injuries. Call ups. So many teams are pressed up against the cap. The other teams are bad teams or budget teams. The Wings want to bring up Nyqvist but can't because of the cap. They used a new clause in there CBA "roster emergency" because they had no space just to dress 20 players a few nights ago. They tried to move Tootoo for a pick. Put him on waivers for free. No takers.

If you look at the calendar, there are 11 weeks until the Olympic break. Then there is one week after the break until the trading deadline. Season is moving fast now. The Rangers have major decisions to make with their roster.

Rangers have a 24 man roster when you are counting the cap. Once Nash is back Miller most likely goes back down to the AHL. Or Mashinter. Frees up space meaning the Rangers will have $1,717,567 in space if Miller goes down. Would put them in 20th spot in terms of salary in the league. Including cap penalties for keeping Powe and Asham in the A. Rangers cap situation is good, very good, compared to many teams. They do have space to make a minor move. Not sure they will, but the space is certainly there. Closer to the deadline the prorated space will increase a lot. Sather is going to be busy. Be so sure

thats what i dont get either.. theres no need to trade him, if anything we can resign him to a cheaper deal then expected and he can still grow and be something special.. some of you want him traded for picks ad prospect.. hes a proven top 4 talent, just struggling right now..

if some of you were gm's our team would be ripped a part..

G on the other hand..

how do you know hes going to ask for a ton of money.. rangers arent going to let him walk.. there would be other let go before him.. some of you guys dont seem to understand finding a 1c and top 1 rhd are the hardest a hottest commodity to find in the NHL.. NO WAY he leaves.. 4.5-5mil 4-5yr extension.. he loves ny, is a star in this city and will be a life time ranger..

stralman will prob be the one to go at end of season becase we likely wont be able to afford him..

I don't mind Demers but I do think we could get some additional assets. Demers is 25 and is what he is as a player at this point. With that being said Del Zotto is already better than him at 23 years old so its not like we could bank on Demers breaking out too much.

Demers + for DZ would be nice.

A minor move. The people on this board like to propose deals for rentals with $7.5M cap hits. Sather can make more lateral moves. They don't improve the team.

I honestly feel like we can deal with Falk in the lineup for a prolonged period of time. With that being said, I don't think we need a D for D trade. It should be a player that has an all around good style of play who can make some hits and score some goals who is just around the age DZ is. Zibanejad, Coyle, Connelly type players. Yakupov will be a good addition as well. He can put up numbers

A young cap friendly forward for MDZ is what I think a lot of people would like to see, someone who might be on the brink of becoming a top six player but could upgrade one of our 3rd line wing spots right now.

The wing is what we need. DZ for that would be alright but I'd probably want a little bit more in addition...I might be on the greedy side there.
