How does that help this team in the next couple of years though? I agree with your premise.
I think the idea is to stop looking at just the next couple of years.

If you keep asking yourself that question every single season, then nothing is going to change.
You want to acquire those players as a stopgap because theres nothing here now? Fine. But it needs to come with an organizational commitment to draft and develop those types of players. It hasn't.
If that's the case can we start selling off assets then?
Why does it have to be one or the other? Fill the role now AND develop some kids who can fill these roles. Why not? I liked the way Kantor looked in the pre-season but he is in the ECHL now. Straight ahead, North-South, hard to play against. Hopefully Yogan can continue to develop to be a 3rd/4th liner who can hit and provide some energy but who else is there?
I like the idea of getting a couple of younger guys who can fill the roles moving forward. Clifford would be a good start. Dorsett was a good addition.
I think we're saying the same thing.
I just dont see the assets on the Rangers side. Are you going to trade Del Zotto for these types of players? Maybe in a 2 for 1 deal.
Draft picks? The Clowe debacle shows where that philosophy goes. Other roster players? Who? Nobody wants Pyatt or Pouliot.
Marcel Goc may also be a name that's available for the right price. Excellent penalty killer and great on faceoffs. You win in the playoffs with guys like him.
Looking over FLA's roster, damn they do not have much to offer. They aren't trading Barkov or Huberdeau. Probably wouldn't trade Gubranson either. Kulikov? Stated before that I like Bjugstad. The vets they have are overpriced with term left. Campbell has that ridiculous cap hit till the end of 2016. Steer clear of Versteeg and Fleischman.
Edit: Just saw Crows post. Goc if the price was right would be a good pick up.
I like Matthias, Bjugstad and Kulikov (a bit).
you can add Erik Gudbranson to the list.. RH dman with some snarl and size... id love him on this team... id move Del Zotto as part of a package to get him
I think we could have what Gudbranson is in McIlrath. Gubranson certainly more likely to reach his ceiling but not sure I'd make him a main target.
Agreed, which is sad. How do other organizations continue to churn these guys out?
I wouldn't mind 2 of them
Rather use assets to get things we don't have
My guess is they don't go for boom or bust picks in the latter rounds, instead taking guys with potentially lower ceilings but a better chance at becoming an NHLer.
We need more than 1 mean, tough d-man.
Agreed. Not sure why it's so hard to find kids who can skate with limited offense who don't mind dropping the gloves.
Something around Fleischmann for Del Zotto? He has one year left after this @ 4.5. Not a hand cuff of a contract at all. Fills a big need for NYR (top-6 scoring LW). I think that'd be a perfect deal. I always thought he was a solid player, unless I'm missing something here?
Hagelin - Richards - Nash
Kreider - Stepan - Zucc
Fleischmann - Brassard - Callahan
Pouliot/Pyatt - Boyle/Moore - Dorsett
Now THAT'S some depth.
