Just because Yakupov isn't available doesn't mean we should go and trade MDZ for the nearest 2nd/3rd line forward.

I don't know where you were on October 19, 2013, but the Rangers iced this lineup that night:

Pyatt - Brassard - Richards
Miller - Stepan - Zuccarello
Pouliout - Boyle - Dorsett
Powe - Moore - Fast

You can never have too much forward depth.

I don't think NYR would have to move Del Zotto to get a forward from Florida.

Winchester or Kopecky would upgrade the bottom 6, and be cheap. Kopecky only if they kept salary.

Ryan Whitney is a candidate to replace Del Zotto if we were to deal him for a forward, but I would like one better and younger than Fleich. RB has said teams would offer a Goligoski type package for Del Zotto. I'd like to believe him on that one.

Florida, NJ and Buffalo are going to be very bad teams for the next 2-3 years. Florid has a nice group of young forwards. Buffalo has a nice defense in the pipeline. The Devils have, um...Cory Schneider.

Fitz, have you seen Ryan Whitney play lately? He's awful.

Tallon gave out so many bad contracts and now he is trying trade them. That roster is full of bad contracts. Teams aren't taking his bad contracts. That team is unwatchable. They fired Dineen today. The team stinks. Two years ago the Panthers almost beat Jersey in the first round. The Rangers fortunes could have changed meeting Florida or Philly in the conference finals. Florida had so many chances to win game 7.

I like the forward prospects that Buffalo has in Grigorenko, Girgensons, Armia and what will most likely be Reinhart

The Goligoski deal and the Luke Schenn deal saw D go for a forward. Pitt also got a D to replace Goligoski. That should be the market for him. The Wings traded a #1 in 2012 for Quincey. It was the 3 way deal with Avs and TB. Downie to Colorado from TB. Quincey to DET from the Avs. #1 pick to TB and they took the Russian goalie. Quincey used to be a good player 4 years ago but he stunk in 2012 and he is worse now. A late #1 pick isn't enough for DZ but it shows the lack of quality D available that the Wings moved a #1 pick for a player they had lost on waivers to LA many years ago and the player wasn't very good. The Rangers need to bring back value for DZ. A quality asset or assets in return.

Tallon is a funny guy. Whitney was available all of last season. He was available to all of the teams this summer. Florida cornered the market on bad D. Whitney,Gilbert and Gilroy. Last week,Tallon emailed all of the teams about Whitney being available. You were the guy dumb enough to sign him and now you want to trade him. Teams will be lining up for him.

I'm not saying that Del Zotto will bring in Kane or Yakupov by himself, but I agree with RB. He's worth a lot more than a middling 2nd liner like Tomas Fleischmann. He's a good player, but not enough to be a centerpiece in a deal in which Del Zotto goes.

Del Zotto is definitely worth now what Goligoski was worth when he was traded. You deal from a position of strength to fill weaknesses. With Hagelin back and Kreider playing good hockey, LW is less of a weakness, but still needs addressing. It's already time to look to next year. Richards is getting bought out. Brassard is a RFA, and by the looks of it, far from a sure fire thing to return. Who plays 2nd and 3rd line center? A good center to go behind Stepan may be worth considering if one comes up in Del Zotto trade talks.

True. But I'm getting the feeling they need to make a decision on Del Zotto sooner rather than later.

Why? Is Del Zotto a distraction to the team? Is he complaining about ice time?. Having quality dmen is like having quality pitching, you can't have enough of it. I don't get the rush to trade this player. IF we want to maximize value then wait for the trade deadline, when teams are always looking to upgrade defense. Del Zotto is the most moveable asset the Rangers have right now, I don't think you'd disagree with that. So lets manage the asset the smart way and not make a rash decision or make a move just to make a move.

The Rangers are 1 injury away from Justin Falk being in the lineup. The Rangers defenseman depth is top heavy, lets wait to see how things play out before moving Del Zotto. Sather should make a team overpay for him. Surely, a team will end up in a bind and be forced to overpay for Del Zotto. So lets wait for that to happen.

I just don't get the rush to trade Del Zotto. With all that being said, I'd trade Del Zotto tomorrow if the deal was right. I just don't think we are going to be lucky enough to see that deal in November.

And now Whitney is on waivers - guess they couldn't find a taker haha

Why? Because he's a RFA to be who very well may not be worth his QO. Because you have to wonder what his play is doing to his trade value. Because you can always add a bottom pair defenseman.

Explain.

He's made some very sloppy plays. Plays where you simply scratch your head. And he hasn't produced enough offensively to overlook those gaffes. What are we missing?

Your right , he has made plenty of mistakes and hasnt produced as well as he can lately.... hes also spent the majority of this time playing on the wrong side

I mean you have a 23 yr old defensman....23..... most good D are only starting their soph yr at 23

And people talk about him and act as if hes like Stu Bickel sometimes.... Its just silly
Im all for trading from a position of strength to fix a weakness but throwing a valuable player away just for the sake of .... ooohhh trades are exciting ...DZ sux.... geez even games when hes playing great people still rip him ....

These are the same people that when Cally was the same age were saying hed be nothing more then a 4th/3rd line tweener and wouldnt score more then 12 goals a season... you guys know who you are...

DZ is worth more than Gogo in my opinion. He's younger than Gogo was at the time of the trade, more physical, better defensively (not saying that much), and about the same point credentials. I would take a chance on Del Zotto if I'm a team that needs D. He really is a great player. He needs a change of scenery though.

I understand hockey very well and I also understand del zotto doesn't belong on the right side. Please explain what I don't understand

IDK.... if you understand so much and dont hate him..... then why are you getting so defensive???

What makes you think i was talking specifically to you

So you are judging Del Zotto based on a few games to start this season, under a new coach, in a new system? That's about as ridiculous as posters calling this team the Ron Low Rangers after 4 games. You can always add bottom pair defenseman? Who can the Rangers get? You must have a player in mind so lets here it. Lets hear the SBOB plan, come on I know you have one so lay it on us. Let us know what you think of the depth issues this team could find themselves in. My point is trading Del Zotto without having a plan on how to replace him isn't the right thing to do in November. If this was March, I'd agree with you but now with 65 games left in the season....I don't know....I don't think that's the smartest way to go about it. You obviously disagree.
