The DelZotto hate in this thread just shows the lack of understanding that people have for hockey

I understand hockey very well and I also understand del zotto doesn't belong on the right side. Please explain what I don't understand

Explain.

He's made some very sloppy plays. Plays where you simply scratch your head. And he hasn't produced enough offensively to overlook those gaffes. What are we missing?

hes 23..bc hes young and still developing.. he really hasnt made sloppy plays since the team has been gaining some steam the past 6-7 games.. did i mention hes 23? no reason to get down on him... you guys on here are so hit or miss.. one sec a guy is amazing and we have premature ejaculation, then the next min you guys are crying like school girls.. we dont have a crosby or a letang.. but very young and skilled players.. relax!!

He's 23. This is also his fifth season in the league. Over 260 games.

Yeah, honestly, he's had enough time to show us something more.

I know, he's only 23. But with that much experience playing in the NHL, you think you'd see some improvement in the areas he's had trouble with for his 5 years in the league.

Haven't seen much improvement to be honest.

Has he made more than others?
He hasn't produced offensively when?
2 years ago, he had 41 points.
Last season, 21 points, which projects to 38 points per 82.
Are you judging him on this season? Little too early wouldn't you think? And this is after he strung few good games together. You guys never miss an opportunity to crap on him. :shakehead
He has the second least giveaways on this team, and that's with him playing on his offside, so why are you singling him out??

There have been many discussions about DZ for 2 years now and you are acting like this is new.

It was the same thing when he was 21. People were whining when produced 41 points. Then 22 when he produced 21 points in a shortened season.

:deadhorse:

Kevin Lowe and Craig MacTavish were in Boston last night for Panthers-Bruins.

The Oilers are playing Philly tomorrow afternoon.

Do they swing back to New York on Sunday for the Panthers-Rangers?

The Oilers are playing in Chicago on Sunday.

And in 4 years he'll only be 27:sarcasm:

Improvement? I'm not sure he hasn't gotten worse....

I know the team is playing well and all, but I am still not happy with the lack of toughness on this roster from top to bottom. I know it's a good thing to have players like Kreider and Zuccarello involved in scrums but wouldn't it be nice to have some more aggressive players who are out to legitimately cause some pain? Boll last night was a prime example.

Good teams have multiple of these guys. The Rangers have Dorsett.

Pouliot has been bad. Pyatt (although I hope he is okay) has been bad. Miller needs to go back to the AHL (which isn't a bad thing, he just needs more time).

Recommendations? Thoughts? Am I totally off base?

The only time Del Zotto looked like an answer on the PP was when he had a trigger man to his left to dump the puck off to early in his career here (Ales Kotalik, who sucked, but he had a big shot). DZ hasnt had that since and hes struggled.

To be honest, if he cant up his offensive prowess, I dont see a place for him on this team going forward.

The offense looks like its straightening itself out, and should be better when/if Nash gets back.

Im all for dropping the dead weight like Pyatt and Pouliot and replacing them with grittier players -- but who?

I've always like Tootoo. I wish his cap hit wasn't as high. He'd be perfect in this team's bottom six.

It's been discussed a lot. It's almost impossible to believe that they have been unable to draft and develop the kind of players you describe. And they have blown a lot of money trying to fill those spots with UFAs.

At some point you need to make a call on this guy. If you think he's going to be the player people had hoped, then something needs to change. If he no longer seems to fit in, deal him. The last thing they need is for Del Zotto to turn into Tom Poti 2.0 — a purported offensive defenseman who can't put it together and winds up abandoning the offensive game to become a serviceable bottom pair guy.

He looked good with Gaborik his rookie year I believe too as well right? I can't remember. There was a time when he would handle the puck and move well.

That's the issue. Who is available and for what? Shawn Matthias from Florida? Tootoo maybe from Detroit if they retain salary? I'll take a look around to see who may be available.

What they really need is a top-9 winger who can wreak some havoc.

Me too, 1.9 is extremely high though.

Agreed, kills me.

I worry about this as well. IMO he needs to be moved soon

What we really need is to start developing these type of players and stop hemorrhaging assets and money in futile attempts to acquire them.

Nick Bjugstad is a name I'd want to hear in any MDZ trade talks. Rangers liked him in 2010.

Going through teams:

Colorado:
I wanted McLeod in the off-season, they aren't going to make moves.

Detroit:
Tootoo

Washington:
Doubt they move anyone that would fill this role

Sharks:
Just acquired Mike Brown for the same purpose

Flyers:
I wonder if Simmonds or Schenn are available...

Bruins:
I wonder if Matt Fraser could be pried away from their farm system

Carolina:
No one

Anaheim:
No one

TB:
Still like Connolly although he isn't a wrecking ball, he plays physical. Someone mentioned Gudas, he would be great, doubt he moves.

Pitt:
No

Toronto:
None really

LA:
Clifford has been rumored to be available. Nolan is a pain in the ass.

Vancouver:
I would still LOVE Kassian. Not going to happen though.

Columbus:
Probably not

St Louis:
Would they move Reaves who is a UFA at years end?

Chicago:
Would they move Bollig who is a UFA at years end?

Winnepeg:
If they continue t flounder would they move Kane? Thorburn is a UFA t=at years end.

Montreal:
Moen (makes 1.85 million for 2 more years)?

Minnesota:
No one

Dallas:
No one

Edmonton:
Looking for the same thing

Nashville:
Just signed Hendricks and Nystrom to fill these exact roles (overpaid)

Buffalo:
Foligno available? Doubtful

Ottawa:
Smith?

Calgary:
None as Glencross is not moving

NYI:
Yeah right....

Florida:
Matthias

How does that help this team in the next couple of years though? I agree with your premise.

Does Tallon like DZ? He likes young players. From: @LavoieRenaud

Panthers are looking for a D or two. That's what this team needs right now.

I bet they are trying to move the likes of Versteeg for a d-man. Watch Philly go for it.

Does Philly want Versteeg back? They've already ran through that experiment.
