Your right , he has made plenty of mistakes and hasnt produced as well as he can lately.... hes also spent the majority of this time playing on the wrong side

I can't chalk up mental errors to playing on the wrong side.

I mean you have a 23 yr old defensman....23..... most good D are only starting their soph yr at 23
And he's starting his fifth

And people talk about him and act as if hes like Stu Bickel sometimes.... Its just silly
Im all for trading from a position of strength to fix a weakness but throwing a valuable player away just for the sake of .... ooohhh trades are exciting ...DZ sux.... geez even games when hes playing great people still rip him ....

People enjoy being extreme. It doesn't change that Del Zotto really hasn't progressed much.

These are the same people that when Cally was the same age were saying hed be nothing more then a 4th/3rd line tweener and wouldnt score more then 12 goals a season... you guys know who you are...

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here.

Most of the people advocating a Del Zotto trade aren't the extremists who only write about how he sucks and come up with stupid and unfunny nicknames like Del Zaster. We realize he has some real value.

You reference him playing the wrong side. Tell me, who is he going to unseat out of McDonagh, Staal, and Moore? Lets keep in mind that while Del Zotto is a better player right now, Moore is cost controlled and Del Zotto is due a raise over his $2.5M that he hasnt exactly earned.

Like it not, Del Zotto's days seem to be numbered here.

If somebody like Coburn is really all Philly can offer for Eberle and Edmonton is willing to listen, Sather has to be on the phone right now.

So you are judging Del Zotto based on a few games to start this season, under a new coach, in a new system?

I'm judging Del Zotto on his career. Are you happy with the way he's progressed? If, five years ago, someone told you/showed you what Del Zotto is today, would you have OK with that?

You can always add bottom pair defenseman? Who can the Rangers get? You must have a player in mind so lets here it. Lets hear the SBOB plan, come on I know you have one so lay it on us.

I don't have a plan. I don't have names in mind. Your pitching analogy is a good one. You can always find a pitcher. Fortunately if the Rangers trade Del Zotto they won't have to be looking to add a top four guy.

Let us know what you think of the depth issues this team could find themselves in. My point is trading Del Zotto without having a plan on how to replace him isn't the right thing to do in November. If this was March, I'd agree with you but now with 65 games left in the season....I don't know....I don't think that's the smartest way to go about it. You obviously disagree.

I think there are depth issues right now. And I'm not advocating trading him just to trade him. You've been here long enough to know I'm not the trade! trade! trade! guy. I do think five seasons in hat the organization should have an idea about whether or not Del Zotto is in their longterm plans (especially as there will likely have to make some hard decisions to be made this offseason with so many contracts expiring). If he's not, make a move and try to improve the team now and for the future. I think the idea of dealing Del Zotto for Yakupov or Eberle is pure folly. But I would certainly have to consider a deal for a youngish, physical 3-4th line player and 2nd.

What is MDZ next contract?

I think the answer to that question would add substance to the debate about whether or not he should be traded.

Has he improved during his last contract? Should he get a raise? Will he sign for a minimal raise considering he will have arbitration rights? Does he have the stats to get a large arbitration award? Is that his starting point for a new contract, what he thinks he might get in arbitration? Is he the type of player where they try to buy up UFA years on a longer contract?

I'm not really fan of MDZ's game, but I think those are all logical questions.

MDZ at 4.X m cap hit for two more years, or a larger cap hit should they be able to buy out some UFA years, versus what they could get for him right now, I think what they could get outweighs what his value will be on any new contract.

I could see how the Oilers could want players like Simmonds/Schenn to add grit. Couturier too as a defensive center.

Weren't they rumored to be interested in Coburn too? Coburn for the Nurse pick at the draft?

What I don't get is how Philly thinks this is at all the solution. But then again I was equally confused by the Streit/Vinny signings.

Thats exactly my point.....I have no prob whatsoever trading him.... We have some great depth on the left side and he can and will be the odd man out.... but the people ripping him acting like his value goes down daily are just silly..... show me any defenseman who makes no mistakes....theyre human not robots...but certain people are ready to lynch him after every lil mistake

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here.

Really cause playing out of position would most likely bring about mental mistakes from trying to overthink or compensate for being uncomfortable

You act like thats a bad thing

Thats just silly....if you cant see the progress he has made on the back end then that kinda just proves my original point

The point being that people here talk in absolutes and its just silly..... No one can say in any absolute what can happen with a kid in his early 20s in this game.... only educated guesses

You can't point to his youth when he's entering his fifth season and has played over 260 games in the NHL.

I'm with you on all of this. Philly has the pieces to make it happen, but what does it do for them in the long run? They literally have problems in all areas.

I think its undeniable that his value has gone down the last couple of seasons.
