I was always a little leery of the Pouliot signing and wasn't sure how he would fit in on this team.

He developed great chemistry with Peverley and Kelly in Boston, and it also helps that those two are defensively sound as Pouliot is mediocre in that area. In Tampa, Pouliot benefited from playing on a line with St. Louis and Vinny L.

Right now we have an inconsistent player in Pouliot playing with another inconsistent player in Brassard which is not exactly a recipe for success. Maybe they can try Pouliot with both Boyle and Dorsett at some point to try to replicate what he had in Boston with Kelly and Peverley.

I think the idea was to have Pouliot play with Boyle on the 3rd line (if Richards was playing top 6 wing with Kreider in the AHL) or have him play with Moore and Dorsett on the 4th line if Richards/Brassard was the 3rd line center with Boyle playing the wing. Or 3rd line LW with Richards/Brassard with Moore or Boyle on the wing onthe 4th line.

Its hard to see what bottom 6 role they had in mind because of the all the injuries and because no one knew if Kreider (or MZA or Miller) would be on the team.

Dominic Moore should be back on Saturday. AV said that yesterday. If everything continues to progress with Nash and he can return in the near future(Maybe by Thanksgiving which is two weeks from tomorrow?) and no other players get hurt, the Rangers will have their full complement of forwards excluding Pyatt who is hurt. AV said last week that he has date in mind for any possible changes. He is still evaluating. He has had discussions with management about possible changes and has talked with Gernander about the players in the AHL.

Stepan
Callahan
Nash
Richards
Hagelin
Kreider
Zuccarello
Boyle
Brassard
Dorsett
Miller
Moore
Pouliot

Mashinter should be sent to the AHL. He barely plays when dressed. AV said he likes the physical presence Mashinter brings because the Rangers need that but he doesn't give him many minutes.

Could you clarify on the reason for the player list?

or maybe Mash, what is the point of him dressing if he is going to play less than 3 mins. might as well use 7 defenseman and 11 forwards if that is the case.

Mashinter is the muscle. He stinks, and I think hes way too slow to be an NHL'er, but at least I understand his role.

I dont understand throwing JT Miller out there to make mistakes night after night after night.

Regier wanted 2 #1's and a 2nd for Ryan Miller. Kypreos believes the Blues are interested in Miller. They don't like their goaltending. Halak or Elliott would go to Buffalo as part of the deal. Regier got Moulson,#1 and #2 for Vanek. The plan was to flip Moulson for a #1. Same deal for Miller.

Halak has been great from the games I watched. I don't understand this at all from the Blues standpoint.

Mash is what he is. No harm playing 3-5 minutes while there's plenty of harm wasting Miller on the 4th line. Miller should go to Hartford and stay for a few months.

Is Haley really that much worse than Mashinter? Unless he's digressed significantly, seems like he'd easily be an upgrade.

Its all about the playoffs for the Blues. According to Kypreos, they haven't liked their goaltending in the last couple of playoffs. Halak was great for MTL in 2010. He's been hurt by the time playoff time roled around the last 2 seasons. Maybe they don't trust him.

EDM is a mess because they got a log-jam with kids and no structure to place the kids in. Nothing that works. That will not develop their kids. What is McT doing in EDM?

McT just doesn't seem able to pull that ship around. Its no wonder that their kids and players, inbetween the coaches they give a few month each, starts to complain. Its like when we had Jamie L, Brendl, Malhotra and co. It was seen in EDM like 4-5 years ago. Linus Omark had a marvelous camp for them, on all accounts almost he was the best player in camp. In the first game of the season, he was a healthy scratch. He competed with Hall, Hemsky and Pääjärvi (the 10th overall pick) for a spot. Was EDM wrong to not step on the toes of a 1st overall pick and a 10th overall pick in order to just make room for Linus Freakin Omark? Of course not. But you can't run a business on those terms for too long, and its been going on forever in EDM now. Heck, is Yakupov even today dressing up on his own merits? He is a good with offensive tools, but since EDM has zero environment is he the best man for the job? Omark is playing for OKC again this season, he is a point per game player and has 9 goals in like 13 games.

Its just not a good way to build a team. You need competition from within. You need kids pushing each other. You need your vets to be true leaders, not just by-standers. The only leader EDM has is -- yup you nailed it -- one of the worst players in the NHL that not even remotely is playing because what he does on the ice but because what he did in like 1999 for EDM... What kind of message is that sending? After Omark was scratched after being their best player in camp, the reporters jumped him. Why do you think you were cut? Was it political? A faced a ton of questions like that. He was quite for a long time and then kind of admitted to what the reporters asked him. McT jumped him and buried him in the minors. That was his career.

Eberle, RNH and Hall plays all the best minutes and makes a ton of money but litterary contributes less for EDM than Kreids-Step-Zucc does for us.

Why is Hemsky still playing for that team?

Smyth was a dinosaur, five years ago. Or even ten years ago...

Philly's blueline is hurting them, EDM got two guys who would compete for spots on Philly's blueline.

And they have no goaltender. Now Mr. Universe is the best they can do?

Why on earth did EDM move Pääjärvi for a skilled small forward in Perron?

Why did they sign a completely unproven coach? Why do they change coach every season or several times per season? What kind of message does that send to the kids? That they aren't responsible for anything?

What is McT doing over there?

:handclap::handclap: Always love your insight and hockey knowledge. Glad you post here. Edmonton seems like a team that likes to buy many fancy ornaments and admire them or enjoy choosing which ones to hang on the Christmas tree. Problem is they have no clue on how to decorate the tree. Too many of the same ornaments, or too top heavy, or a weak tree stand and it falls over. You are 100% right, the tree has no structure and no plan, so they go shopping for more ornaments next year and try again! Question is, when will the fans, who pay, get tired of not being able to light the tree and enjoy it?

JT is better off playing major minutes in the AHL than being a bottom six player in the NHL. Its the best thing for his development. He has to play.

Yep, I agree. Although, wishful thinking, if it was Pyatt that gets moved (he is injured now anyway) , I'd be content with Miller on the 3rd line. We're pretty deep this year, and our 3rd line is not a bunch of scrubs, supposing that Nash is healthy though.

Hags - Richards - Nash
Kreider - Step - Zucc
Miller - Brass - Cally

Could you clarify on the reason for the player list?

The Rangers have played without Nash,Callahan and Hagelin because of injuries. They lost Callahan after he came back from the shoulder injury. Kreider was in the AHL. Stepan was rusty from the lockout. It will be interesting to see those 5 players in the line-up together for the first time this season. Then AV and management can look at the rest of the team and figure out which players fit.

I feel like Kristo will eventually find his way to the third line this season. He's been great in Hartford and would excel playing on a line with Brassard and Callahan.

Hags - Richards - Nash
Kreider - Step - Zucc
Boyle - Brass - Cally

Boyle can cover for Brass on d-zone faceoffs. I am hoping that AV can coach the hell out of Brass and turn him into a two-way player. Perhaps having a coach that can teach him the nuances of the game in his native French can help Brass along.

Both Boyle and Cally are the team's best defensive forwards so that makes them a formidable checking option. If AV can turn Brass into an everyday player. Meaning no lapses in his game, then AV gets high marks in my books.

Then the 4th line is what's left. I look at 4th line roles and I look at the sport of hockey today, with the game being played the way it is, it is a sport of physical maturity and it is a sport of speed. I would honestly rather have Pyatt than Moore or Pouliot simply because of what a 4th line requires.

Current Roster:
Mashinter-Miller-Dorsett

Although I think Miller is sent down to play center in the minors and Moore plays.

Ideally I would like to see a couple of moves and address the 4th line as such:

Toughness+Size+Skating ability - Right handed shooting PK center w. grit- Dorsett

If Mash somehow steps up into the LW role, then great, but he has to earn the coaches trust for a 10 min a night role, and adding a checking line RH shot gives AV tons of leverage on faceoff situations. Would prefer a guy that has more of a warrior mentality than Moore to play that role.

How is his defensive game? Would he be responsible

I'll let you know how it is when he finds one. Kristo needs the whole year in the AHL to figure out how pro hockey works. Kid has undeniable talent, but his decision making is questionable and he's clueless defensively.

well if they send someone down it has to be Miller for playing time. No pt to send Mashinter down cause hes a cheap spare

With that said that means Mashinter stays to play a whopping 3-5 minutes a game until Nash gets back.

I do think Nash is back after this weekend though

good pt , Falk does need to play but thing is they play back to back games so does it not make sense to play Miller this weekend since hes better than Mashinter
