Not at all saying you are wrong in your preference of country.
However (what this now has to do with hockey) the homicide rate is slightly twice that of the US in Russia. Not 3 times (4.7 vs 10.2). See here
The overall rate of criminality is somewhat higher in the US than in Russia. See here
The police thing you cited is maybe true, but otoh the politicians are the ones in the pockets of the wealthy in the US instead.
Russian girls are hotter. Much
But I would myself also rather live in US over Russia.
But there are much better alternatives than both these places these days... maybe just not for hockey players ;)

haha. maybe not hotter but very close.

add to that ukraine, polish and czech girls :handclap:

That's all well and good. Still doesn't explain why some players go out of their way to sign an NHL contract only to wipe their ass with it the second they aren't happy

Bingo. Nobody has a problem with kids playing in the KHL. It's the fact that these kids "commit" to the NHL and then bail at the first signs of adversity. If they want to play in the KHL, play in the KHL. Just don't come here and say "I have no intention of playing in the KHL" and then turn around and sign a contract in Russia one year into your NHL career.

so Del Zotto cant get one of these types?? look at what James Neal went for. an overpaid overrrated offensive dman. at least Del Zotto has a good contract and is still only 23.

i get pissed every time that trade gets brought up! Shero had blackmail pics on Nieuwendyk. That they got Neal for Golgo was stupid, but they got Niskanen as well! WTF! I would have knocked over Shero's grandma with an ATV to get a chance at Neal and they totally ripped Dallas off.

anyways, not sure what point you were trying to make but that was a rip off trade so not sure it's a good one to compare with.

What my point was is that if a team likes Del Zotto they might overpay a bit. Sather has done well in some of the trades from the past.

I was going to say "before someone calls me xenophobic" but some nincompoop already did, but Im searching for reasons why its situations with Russians that seemingly get so messy in public.

I guess the KHL ejector seat is the main culprit. These guys know they have a league thats easier to play in and pays pretty well waiting in their homeland. So why put up with any **** from these NHL coaches?

Don? Is that you?

Yeah, I'm the nincompoop.

Rangers management should kick the tires on Kulikov and Matthias.. and isnt Goc an UFA so maybe Panthers are trying to bring him back?? Goc the former 1st round pick by Sharks in 2001 although his skill didnt translate to the NHL level, he still made it as a regular as an NHL player.. Goc like Lundqvist had a brother who played in the NHL for a bit , Sasha was drafted by the Devils and then escaped back to europe.. i wonder if Goc and Lundqvist ever try to convince their brothers to return to the NHL..

interesting fact, Joel Lundqvist was drafted in the 3rd round by the Stars during the same draft as Henrik when he got drafted in the 7th round by the Rangers.

I really want Kulikov on this team. He's a great defenseman on an abysmal team. He would flourish in New York.

Why?
I'd rather have Brass than Matthias.

Brassard is not a 3rd line player. He simply isn't, and he'll be stuck on the third line for awhile with the way Richards and Stepan have been playing. He doesn't really have a defined role in the lineup. Matthias would be a much better fit with the likes of Dorsett/Callahan(when Nash comes back)/Boyle than Brassard. Also adds some sorely needed size at the center ice position.

I've always liked Kulikov, but IMO, his troubles are individual. Kulikov handing the puck to Hagelin on the GWG at MSG was all him. Also, the team already has a ton of depth at LD. They need a righty.

For this season I agree, but what happens when Richards is bought out? I'd think Brass would be the 2C. No?

I'm not sure what the Rangers will do this summer. All of it depends on the result of this season. Most of the roster will be without a contract come years end. Honestly, if Brass continues to struggle, I wouldn't be surprised to see Richards here for the remainder of his contract.

Although, I believe Miller should be able to fill the role of 2C in a few years. They really need to either move him to center or send him down. Its tough watching a 20 yr old kid get stashe on the 4th line when he could be racking uP minutes in the AHL at his natural position.

I would be. But I thought he was going to be bought out last summer, so who knows.
As to Miller, I agree. He probably won't be ready for a couple of years. When he is, I'd rather have Brass as a trade chip than Richards cap hit. But that's just me.

So Campbell's available? Nice.. I heard he's great at scoring first :sarcasm:

722 skaters have suited up for at least one NHL game this season. 21 of those players are Russian. Just 21 skaters. 5 goaltenders. That number will increase with Bryzgalov back in the NHL. Emelin will return from his knee injury. Maybe Orlov gets into a game for the Caps. Go back to 1999-00. 71 players. NHL teams are shying away from drafting the Russian players. Steve Yzerman drafts the Russian players. Jim Nill took Nichushkin in the first round and he slid a little too. Those guys come from the Red Wings organization and they had success with the Russian players. Radulov broke his contract. That's not allowed anymore. The Russian player will come to the NHL and leave when the ELC is over. So many examples. I saw Yakupov's interview yesterday. He kept talking about being 20 and needing to play. You get the impression he would't mind playing in the KHL for the rest of this season than play 10 minutes in Edmonton. Filatov did that one year.

Is there any chance Nail Yakupov ends up being traded out of Edmonton?

Dreger: Not this year. The Oilers have no intentions of trading him. What they need from him, given the fact that he's played 65 NHL games, is to figure it out. He needs to start being a better defensive player, he needs to mature a little bit, work on the issues in his game and be ready for the time when Ales Hemsky is traded by the Oilers so he can take a more predominant role. As for the Igor Larionov story, Craig MacTavish spoke to him and there are no issues there.

When will MacTavish get around to finally trading Hemsky? The player has been available since MacTavish took over in April.

The Richards contract expires in 2020. He will be 40. The Rangers can't find another center? You really want Richards and his cap hit on this roster until 2020. He retires and the Rangers are slammed with cap recapture. Richards stays and the Rangers are stuck with him plus the cap hit and he takes up a roster spot.

Brassard isn't the answer either. Players who don't get it by their 4th or 5th year pro don't become better players later on.

Hemsky has been "available" a lot longer than that if you go by HFBoards.

Nail needs to play but most importantly he needs to shutup. He's doing himself zero favors.

Tambellini tried to trade Hemsky in 2011 and 2012. No takers. He traded Penner to LA for a #1 pick in 2011(Klefbom),the former #1 pick in 2008(Colten Teubert)who is playing in Europe and 3rd. Then Tambellini signs Hemsky to a 2 year extension.

I like Brassard and think he could find a role on a good team. Our version of Bolland/Sharp. He is a good player that has abilities that we lack.

The question is of course how much he will cost. I don't either think that he can become a core piece on a contender. But we might not have to throw him away just because of it.

I like Richards work with Hagelin. But I think Richards spot nowadays are on the wing. He is just too slow to play center.

EDM is a mess because they got a log-jam with kids and no structure to place the kids in. Nothing that works. That will not develop their kids. What is McT doing in EDM?

McT just doesn't seem able to pull that ship around. Its no wonder that their kids and players, inbetween the coaches they give a few month each, starts to complain. Its like when we had Jamie L, Brendl, Malhotra and co. It was seen in EDM like 4-5 years ago. Linus Omark had a marvelous camp for them, on all accounts almost he was the best player in camp. In the first game of the season, he was a healthy scratch. He competed with Hall, Hemsky and Pääjärvi (the 10th overall pick) for a spot. Was EDM wrong to not step on the toes of a 1st overall pick and a 10th overall pick in order to just make room for Linus Freakin Omark? Of course not. But you can't run a business on those terms for too long, and its been going on forever in EDM now. Heck, is Yakupov even today dressing up on his own merits? He is a good with offensive tools, but since EDM has zero environment is he the best man for the job? Omark is playing for OKC again this season, he is a point per game player and has 9 goals in like 13 games.

Its just not a good way to build a team. You need competition from within. You need kids pushing each other. You need your vets to be true leaders, not just by-standers. The only leader EDM has is -- yup you nailed it -- one of the worst players in the NHL that not even remotely is playing because what he does on the ice but because what he did in like 1999 for EDM... What kind of message is that sending? After Omark was scratched after being their best player in camp, the reporters jumped him. Why do you think you were cut? Was it political? A faced a ton of questions like that. He was quite for a long time and then kind of admitted to what the reporters asked him. McT jumped him and buried him in the minors. That was his career.

Eberle, RNH and Hall plays all the best minutes and makes a ton of money but litterary contributes less for EDM than Kreids-Step-Zucc does for us.

Why is Hemsky still playing for that team?

Smyth was a dinosaur, five years ago. Or even ten years ago...

Philly's blueline is hurting them, EDM got two guys who would compete for spots on Philly's blueline.

And they have no goaltender. Now Mr. Universe is the best they can do?

Why on earth did EDM move Pääjärvi for a skilled small forward in Perron?

Why did they sign a completely unproven coach? Why do they change coach every season or several times per season? What kind of message does that send to the kids? That they aren't responsible for anything?

What is McT doing over there?

What is MacT doing? Following organizational policy...they've thrown the towel in on this season already.

Suck bad for Ekblad is the Oiler strategy. That being said watch them take Reinhart or some other highly touted offensive prospect.

Next year they'll throw in the towel first week of the season if there is a can't miss G prospect on the horizon.

Oilers cant even tank right...lol.
