What is MacT doing? Following organizational policy...they've thrown the towel in on this season already.

Suck bad for Ekblad is the Oiler strategy. That being said watch them take Reinhart or some other highly touted offensive prospect.

Next year they'll throw in the towel first week of the season if there is a can't miss G prospect on the horizon.

Oilers cant even tank right...lol.

Next year will be the McDavid year, they'll be throwing in the towel for him.

A lot of us knew this would be an issue over the summer. The decision to buy Richards out after last season was easy, but the Rangers decided to keep him and now he's playing well enough that there's going to be hesitation again. You can't keep that contract on the books for the next 6 years. No amount of likely cap increase is going to make that much dead money easy to deal with.

My hope is that Lindberg will be able to step in and fill the spot between Hags and Cally. That group would be fast, tenacious, and can play both ends of the ice equally well.

I think you are worrying over nothing.

Richards will get bought out, regardless of what happens. He would have to win the cup and the Conn Smythe for keeping him to even be seriously discussed.

Brassard's horrible play this year is really concerning. I was hoping he'd be our full time 2C once Richards is bought out. Now I really wonder. It's not like 2Cs are that hard to find, but wow I see why Columbus was okay with trading him. I knew he was inconsistent, but not THIS inconsistent.

And I would trade Brassard for Matthias + Goc. Despite what Dreger says I don't get why Florida would hold on to him when he's an expiring UFA. Would be a great fit on this team if we're in a playoff spot.

Brassard has sick skill, he's just a *****. Dude needs to man up and start playing like a hockey player instead of a scared *****.

It also doesn't help with the line mates he has, but this is the NHL. I don't use that as an excuse.

I wouldn't use linemates as an escuse either, though I might start to consider an exception in the case of Pouliot.

He has been dragging his linemates down more than any Ranger in recent history. He's always been a frustrating player to watch but he was significantly better on Tampa, Boston and Montreal.

There is always one "pouliout" player on a rangers roster. At least that's the way it seems in recent history.

Yup, I see Pouliot as the same category as Wolski, Kotalik, Frolov, etc. One-dimensional, doesn't seem to have a defined role, takes bad penalties, poor decision-making. I don't think he lasts the season if he continues to play this way.

Thing that pisses me off is Pouliot wasn't this bad on his other teams. He was actually pretty good defensively on Boston. Tampa he was very effective in his depth role. He's not a bad player, he wasn't on his other teams. But of course he caught Rangeritis and became a pylon the second he suited up in blue.

The Richards contract expires in 2020. He will be 40. The Rangers can't find another center? You really want Richards and his cap hit on this roster until 2020. He retires and the Rangers are slammed with cap recapture. Richards stays and the Rangers are stuck with him plus the cap hit and he takes up a roster spot.

Brassard isn't the answer either. Players who don't get it by their 4th or 5th year pro don't become better players later on.

Let me clarify that I don't particularly wish to see the Rangers keep Richards - I just wouldn't be surprised if that's what transpired. Glen Sather, ya know.

I heard Nick Kypreos last week discussing Richards with Doug MacLean. Kyper said the Rangers will buy Richards out. The player hasn't done enough to change the amnesty plans. MacLean loves Richards because they know each other from Prince Edward Island. He starting ripping Sather about getting a free pass. Kyper said the CBA allows the Rangers to amnesty Richards who will sign another deal next summer. The contract doesn't make sense in the current CBA. They got into a big fight as usual.

I don't see much of a comparison with those players except that they all sucked. Unlike those guys Pouliot is pretty much designed to play a bottom 6 role, and has done so successfully in the past.

He has driven past teams crazy because they expected him (or at least held out hope for him) to score like he did his first season in Montreal, but I doubt anyone here had anywhere near those expectations. His lack of finish will drive any team buts but here he was expected to play on the 3rd or 4th line.

The problem is I am not sure he can be trusted with 4th line minutes at this point.

Still, he was a much better player with Tampa and especially Boston.

I think the theme with all those guys is they were brought in to fill in some part of the lineup and were massively ineffective at doing so during their stints with us.

You're describing an inconsistent player who doesn't do anything particularly well or who is inept at any aspect of the game. There's a reason why he's been on so many teams and not found a home somewhere. Another example of this GM expecting to catch lightning in a bottle.

He wasn't expecting to find lightning in a bottle. If Pouliot played like he has for the past three seasons, he'd be a steal at $1.3M. He's been a great producer at even strength, but hasn't yet this season. His On-Ice Shooting percentage won't stay at 5% forever.

I agree, forever is a long time.

You mean he wasn't signed to be a 1st liner?

Regier wanted 2 #1's and a 2nd for Ryan Miller. Kypreos believes the Blues are interested in Miller. They don't like their goaltending. Halak or Elliott would go to Buffalo as part of the deal. Regier got Moulson,#1 and #2 for Vanek. The plan was to flip Moulson for a #1. Same deal for Miller.

Right but the difference is those players were never effective at the roles the Rangers wanted them to play before they came to the team. They were either extremely ineffective 3rd liners or played in the top 6 of bad teams.

Pouliot and Moore were both signed as bottom 6 depth. And both has had success in that roles in the past.

Ahh gotcha, I see what you mean now.

I guess that just makes Pouliout more frustrating than those other players.

It's not like I expected consistent performances or anything. But I did not expect a brain dead sieve who takes the stupidest of stupid penalties, and just seems to have no think for the game whatsoever. He has always been a good ES scorer for the roles he's played, it wasn't unfair to expect him to just be a good depth guy.

My gripe is that he's just a ****ing moron on skates this season, he's never played this stupid on his other teams. It's not reasonable to expect 40-45 points from him, but it was reasonable to expect him to play like he has his entire NHL career. A mediocre player that scores sometimes, but doesn't do anything particularly bad.

I was always a little leery of the Pouliot signing and wasn't sure how he would fit in on this team.

He developed great chemistry with Peverley and Kelly in Boston, and it also helps that those two are defensively sound as Pouliot is mediocre in that area. In Tampa, Pouliot benefited from playing on a line with St. Louis and Vinny L.

Right now we have an inconsistent player in Pouliot playing with another inconsistent player in Brassard which is not exactly a recipe for success. Maybe they can try Pouliot with both Boyle and Dorsett at some point to try to replicate what he had in Boston with Kelly and Peverley.

Dominic Moore should be back on Saturday. AV said that yesterday. If everything continues to progress with Nash and he can return in the near future(Maybe by Thanksgiving which is two weeks from tomorrow?) and no other players get hurt, the Rangers will have their full complement of forwards excluding Pyatt who is hurt. AV said last week that he has date in mind for any possible changes. He is still evaluating. He has had discussions with management about possible changes and has talked with Gernander about the players in the AHL.

Stepan
Callahan
Nash
Richards
Hagelin
Kreider
Zuccarello
Boyle
Brassard
Dorsett
Miller
Moore
Pouliot

Mashinter should be sent to the AHL. He barely plays when dressed. AV said he likes the physical presence Mashinter brings because the Rangers need that but he doesn't give him many minutes.
