If anyone wants a good laugh you should probably take a look at what EDM fans expect to get for Yak on the main boards.

One guy was dead serious when he said two 1sts and a 2nd. :biglaugh:
another was plekanec + gorges + another roster player for Yak.

Its absurd. Never have I seen a fanbase so proud of being the worst team in the league year after year after year.

You'd think they were a dynasty with the way fans defend those players. The delusion starts in management, trickles down to the team and apparently the fans also.

Not to mention that stupid show Oil Change.

Oilers suck! Don't people want a TV show about a sucky team with "elite" young players??

They have a show like that for Minnesota called Becoming Wild. Good up and coming team. So there's that.

But, I agree, **** Oil Change. It would be really compelling if the organization weren't a laughingstock. That's not the case.

Yeah, I'd love to watch TV shows about hockey teams, but it'd be great if those hockey teams didn't suck.

Also, kind of unrelated, but I am not enamored with RNH like oiler fans seem to be.

id like Spurgeon from Minnesota for DZ but doubt the Wild make that move

basically a RD would be the target for me. the Forwards are coming along lately

Glen goes Viking

Woke up this morning after dreaming that Glen Sather tried on a Viking helmet and then went bezerk acquiring only Swedes in an intense 7 day span of trading. Maybe because the idea of adding only NA players as some posters here constantly advocate to the NYR roster is so enticing??? :sarcasm:
Here is what Darth Sather then accomplished:

  • P Berglund & MPS for Brassard & Pouliot
  • M Zibanejad for MDZ
  • D Rundblad for Brady Skjei & T Pyatt
  • L Omark & Labarbera for Asham & MSC
Maybe we needed add some picks to the mix? Not sure what Glen did...

We then got the following team:

Hagelin - Richards - Nash
Kreider - Stepan - MZA
MPS - Berglund - Callahan
Boyle - Zibanejad - Dorsett

Moore, Mashinter

McD - Girardi
Staal - Stralman
Moore - Rundblad

Falk

King Henrik
Prince Talbot

CAP SITUATION
Upper limit - $64,300,000
Bonuses - $1,500,000
Capspace with above Viking roster - $4,171,932

Lots of money & assets for a deadline frenzy. Where Darth actually adds Ott, a vetran defender plus a clown like Hemsky????!!! OMG!!! :amazed:

Hartford Roster then looks like:

Hrivik - Miller - Kristo
Omark - Lindberg - Fast
Yogan - Powe - Haley
Bourque - Jean - Dupont/Kantor/...

Johnsson - Mac
Allen - Syrvet
Hughes - Bickel
Klasen...

Some of these teams never learn.

From Tuesday night

Scouts from five NHL teams at Avs-Canes game...

They are: Chicago Blackhawks, Anaheim Ducks, Tampa Bay Lightning, Calgary Flames and Washington Capitals.

The Lightning obviously could use another forward, at least for a while. The under .500 Hurricanes, I've heard, are offering Tuomo Ruutu around the league. They would desperately love to move him and his $4.75 million cap hit. In other words, that probably won't happen.

Rutherford wanted to trade Ruutu in 2012. The player was going to be a group III that summer. Rutherford asks for more than a rental is worth so he re-signs the player. Ruutu is on the block one month into the second year of his four year contract. $5M salary this and in each of the next 2 years.

Good luck. The player also has a NMC.

Montreal gives David Desharnais 4 years/$14M last season and now they want to trade him. He has 1 assist in 17 games.

Remind me again why there was a lockout last season?

Edmonton will finish in last place, again, and get the #1 overall pick, again, and draft a smallish talented forward, again.

Sometimes "most talented player available" isn't the greatest strategy when team building. Edmonton should've traded that 1st overall for more draft picks and moved down in the draft and taken a D. That organization is run like ****. This isn't thinking in retrospect, either, I thought this well before the draft.

Desharnais has been downright horrible. No idea what happened to him.

Yakupov is essentially saying "If you're not going to play me the minutes I want, I'm gonna give them to myself."

Round and Round the Merri-go-Round

I love it! Problem is, I don't think any of the other teams makes those trades apart from the Oilers one and maybe the Phoenix one.

Especially the Ottawa one, my god do they get bent over.

Agree, those first two trades are definitely just dreams.

There is a shortage of good players. The avg guys will get paid to.

Makes you wonder how smart it is for us to build with depth like we are. We send 19 guys on the ice every night.

We have around 17-18 skaters that I just have a very hard time seing eventually being paid less than 3.5-4m per. Starting from next year with a player like Strålman and ending in four years with JTM. And in comparision with other contracts signed around the league, in -- most -- cases 3.5m - 4m per is darn low. I mean, Hagelin is arb. elg. in two years right, he is a PPG player. What would he make, 6m per? What did Semin get? Stepan. We have a bunch of guys looking at 4m plus.

I am not saying that we have made any bad choices, but its extremely easy to see that its more valuble to have ONE top guy in the league making 8m per as opposed to 2 solid players making 5-6m per. You need those core guys that can carry cheaper players.

I love the talent with Yakupov, but there just seems to be something intangible that he lacks. I don't like what I see from him.

Aaron Portzline said:

Barring a dramatic change, I see no chance #CBJ even attempt to re-sign Marian Gaborik, will look to move him at trade deadline or sooner.

Saying all this, Gaborik has always scored goals like a snake eats - long stretches of hunger, then a period of gorging. He could breakout.

Would suck for CBJ to lose him for nothing.

Or better yet, you trade some of those solid players and replace them with cheaper, solid players. Maybe we re-sign Girardi this summer, but then trade him after a year or two when McI is ready to take over. Maybe we trade MDZ before he gets the big bucks. Maybe we trade Nash in the final year of his deal.

That's how the smart teams do it. They draft good players and when they have a surplus at a position, they trade the older/more expensive players for futures, draft more good players, on and on.

We've been down the road of the elite players trying to carry the team on their backs and it doesn't work.

Desharnais has been downright horrible. No idea what happened to him.

Small center, who had much success playing with 2 big wingers in Cole and Pacioretty.
Cole was traded last year (for Ryder), and his production started to suffer, and Patch was injured for large parts of last year and this year. Avg player, who has lost confidence, and who can't live up to the contract he signed...

Well said. Obviously you need some type of top talent. For better or worse (including "better" may be optimistic) the reality is the Rangers are not going to be drafting it. Barring some absurdly good luck.

You have to make smart trades at the right time. To do that you need a consistent organizational philosophy to identify the right players. You can't be the Flyers and make big trades constantly, chemistry is obviously important. But you also have to properly manage assets when you have a surplus.

Still, am not convinced the Rangers have a "surplus" anywhere other than LD. Though at the end of the day you need to take some risks. Which prospects can you bank on to step in? Which roster players are truly, the core? How does it fit with the style you want your team to play and the roles you envision for skaters 1-18? These are questions an elite management team will be able to nail.
