The Rangers should call up McIlrath in the next few months and give him a taste of the NHL. Give him some NHL experience. Maybe he can help this season. At the very least,it will help McIlrath prepare to make the team next season. Get him used to the NHL game.

weren't they expecting to give him a look in December/January?

hope that is still the plan.

MDZ for Radko Gadus and a 2nd in next years draft. MDZ reunites with his best friend and we get a rugged dman and a good pick in a deep draft.

In June,Gordie Clark said the Rangers would reevaluate McIlrath at Christmas time.

Jeff Buekeboom said McIlrath is ahead of where they(Hartford coaching staff/Rangers management)thought he would be.

“He’s maturing and his game is developing,†Beukeboom said of McIlrath. “He’s more confident with his health and ability. He’s got a good partner in Johnson. It’s a good fit. He’s developing the way he should and he’s probably a little bit ahead of the trend right now.â€

The Rangers have little excess with which to work internally, on the trade market and under the cap. There aren’t going to be any three-for-one packages or bundling of kids in return for a veteran or a rental.

Del Zotto assuredly can be had, but the Rangers would need to receive a defenseman in return who is capable of handling the nearly 19 minutes a night on the right side that No. 4 chews up. They would need to get someone capable of handling more minutes if any of the Blueshirts’ top four were to be struck by injury.

The Oilers are itching to make a deal. The Sabres are dying to make a deal. The Flyers are desperate to do something. Same is true for the Panthers, who fired Coach Kevin Dineen on Friday because they couldn’t fire everyone else.

But there isn’t necessarily a match with those clubs in regard to Del Zotto, who has yet to grow into the asset the Blueshirts believed they had when he won NHL Rookie-of-the-Month honors as a 19-year-old in October 2009.

DZ is still a 24 year old top 4 D.

He didn't look very comfortable in the preseason (who did though) but it nice to hear that he's doing well for himself down in Hartford and taking steps in the right direction. Hope he get a streach of games and prove himself worthy of a spot in the lineup in January/before trade deadline just like McDonagh did a couple of years ago.

Brooks wrote the Rangers aren't trading 3 players for 1 and they're not trading kids for rentals or veteran players. He wrote DZ can be had. Brooks wrote the Rangers will need a D to replace DZ in case of an injury to top guys and replace the DZ minutes. That's a lateral move. The Rangers should keep DZ for the rest of this season if those are the concerns. Trade him in the summer. http://nypost.com/2013/11/08/rangers-del-zotto-could-be-benched/

I have no problem moving DZ in a lateral move if it means balancing the D out. It's frustrating having a player in a position that doesn't maximize his ability. I'm still concerned with how Girardi's negotiation is going to go. He's a player I want to keep, but am not desperate to. Having our D balanced out would be helpful.

If you were Tampa, would you do that?

I have only seen him once so I don't have much of an opinion on him.

Have you ever wanted the Rangers to acquire anyone who does not fight?

I'd feel better about trading MDZ for a forward if we had already extended Girardi, Moore and Stralman.

Tampa fans, right now, don't even think DZ is worth Gudas. I doubt that the Lightning organization has any desire to move him. It's understandable. How did we feel about Kloucek when he broke into the league? Same kind of thing. Plus, DZ isn't a player they need, apparently.

Prospal has not retired. To the contrary, he's in Tampa Bay, Fla., waiting for his cell phone to ring. He recently spent six weeks doing two-a-days with his club in Ceske Budejovice and is said to be in good shape.

Prospal's agent, Ritch Winter, won't publicly comment, but sources told The Dispatch that the Phoenix Coyotes, New York Rangers and Edmonton Oilers have all considered signing Prospal.

The Oilers are/were interested in Prospal as a mentor for wayward youngster Nail Yakupov, who has regressed following a bright rookie season. The Coyotes and Rangers have cooled their interest in Prospal since their clubs began playing better after slow starts.

http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/content/blogs/puck-rakers/2013/11/lost-and-losing.html

Edmonton needs a Russian player to mentor Yakupov. Pittsburgh got Gonchar for Malkin. Pittsburgh had Jiri Hrdina to mentor Jagr. Dallas has Gonchar to mentor Nichushkin. Jim Nill got Gonchar before the draft.

Columbus could look into bringing Prospal back.

The Rangers did trade Rozsival to Phoenix for Wolski after McDonagh was called up. Rozsival hurt a rib. McDonagh got the call-up and he never left. You can debate if the trade was a good trade. It saved the Rangers $1.2M of space when they wanted to sign Richards as a free agent. They had to re-sign Callahan,Dubinsky,Anisimov,Sauer and Boyle that summer. So maybe the Rangers call up McIlrath to see how he does and if they like what they see, then maybe they feel more comfortable moving Del Zotto.

Moore isn't going anywhere. The other guys are unrestricted.

Fair point on Moore. Let's say the Rangers trade MDZ for a forward. Come July 1 they presumably have McD, Staal, Moore (qualified) and Falk (qualified). Do they get into a bidding war for Girardi and Stralman? Will McIlrath, Allen and/or Johnson be cheaper, capable options? I have to think that if MDZ is traded it is with the plan to extend at least one of Girardi/Stralman. So why not do that first, instead of getting caught with their pants down this summer.

Absolutely agree. Nothing like some NHL experience to take home over the summer to prepare and motivate you for the next season. Anyway if the Rangers wind up playing the Bruins in the playoffs again I'd like the option of having McIlrath around just to have someone to bang heads with Lucic.

Gotta wonder what Glenny boy is doing here. Callahan should be resigned. Lundqvist should be resigned. Girardi should be resigned. Cap should be going up next year. Hell, you can make the case that Boyle should be extended as well. I'd rather know what I have in those four guys than getting a few picks at the deadline for them. Two of them, Cally and Lundqvist, simply cannot be replaced.

still in need a defenseman

who is athletic, scrappy, a bull, and has a rocket of a shot.

How many fights does he have 1-2?

Del Zotto doesn't have it in him to be what the Rangers thought they were drafting and that is why he feel that far...he has the talent but not the brain.

Stamkos and Del Zotto are very good friends and he still has a ton of potiential.

If your Dallas do you trade James Neal for Goligiski or does Anaheim trade Kuntiz for Ryan Whitney or if you are Montreal do you trade McDonagh for Scott Gomez?

Some GM's are better than others and I am not sure Stevie Y falls under a good GM.

He has 3 fighting majors and 57 pim. I think you would agree that he is primarily known for his toughness. Might be a good hockey player. No idea.

I just have never seen you express interest in a player known primarily for other skills. Merely an observation.

In a similar vein, the two or three times I have seen Gudbransson, he impressed me as a possible future player, in addition to being tough. Figured you would like him.

I wouldn't be trading away the 2014 1st with that forward core.

Bornmoostor...

pls

Fair enough as to your opinion, I too know how to :laugh:

It is extremely difficult to get EVERYTHING all at the same time.

This addresses all our D, we are solid in G, and we have a good young core, having dealt with the problem of so many re-signs, that it would be difficult to return them all, by dealing for younger talent on lower salary.

We have salary and options next year w/Richards bye.
FAs. Chance for outsider or kids to crack the roster.
Need a legit guy, we have Gardiner as surplus to move.

When do trades like this ever happen?
Not the point. On paper, do the deals work for both teams? Arguably they do.

Girardi for Gardiner, done. Why does every proposal have to be NHL14 on adderall? :)
Deal is 2 2nds and a L-R combo D each with 1st value min
for 2 1sts and 1 D (Gardiner) who is a better fit for our needs (slot over to RD, PPQB) for Girardi.

Don't fear complexity.
Does this work for TML?
Does it work for us? If both ? are answered yes, and there is not a better deal, swap should be done.

Brassard who can't even handle the 2nd line center position is now our top center? pls
Brassard played well enough last year to suggest to me he can handle it. He's still adjusting, and the revolving door of linemates is not good for any of the pivots, some who have better, more immediate chemistry within the new AV system than others.

why not just trade our entire roster for some other team?

Not necessary.
Just move the replace-ables with better counterparts at a cost that is worth it.

Don't you want to improve?
You realize we need to add talent to this roster if we wanna compete with the Black Hawks, Kings, Ducks, etc.?
