****ing right

I think we end up seeing a DZ & Brassard trade to TOR for Kadri & Gardiner.

I'd take my chances with this. I'm sorta sad that MDZ has to go but he has to go. Brassard has had his moments but his overall body of work has been underwhelming. Both are upcoming RFAs that will want bigger contracts.

I though Kadri played really well last year and Gardiner played really well two years ago. You could have never gotten these players aftyer their first solid year. I like their chances of rebounding better than MDZ's.

A classic my problems for your problems trade.

Yes. Exactly. Both teams spare themselves of continued mediocrity, and get take the guys that need a "change of scenery" off the roster, for the hopes that the change gets more out of the players.

Both Gardiner and Kadri have issues defending. Gardiner's skating ability is a plus add to this system, but he is a soft defender... very soft. The risk ends up being that he doesn't produce enough offense to warrant top 4 minutes. Still a move to make given the circumstances.

DZ is a TOR kid, and TOR would insulate him with their system and maybe being close to home brings consistency to his game.

Risk Reward move both for now, and the future.

Kadri is too much value vs a guy like Brassard, who you know what he is at this point. Dont think Toronto bites on that one. Maybe throw in a pick or a prospect of their choice.

It could be that Brassard responds best to hard line coaches that will get on him every day.... Hitch got a PPG out of him, so did Torts, as short lived as that was.

You're right that it will probably be bigger. Both teams need to offset risk, so it will probably have more pieces involved.

How often does that actually happen?

Anyways:
Kadri >>>>> Brassard
Gardiner >>>>>> Del Zotto

Per Dreger, the Westgarth/Nemisz trade was driven by Carolina wanting to free up a contract.

A move which coincides nicely with Marc Staal's return to the lineup. Speculate away. :sarcasm:

It would most likely be a package to offset risk factors, can't say I know squat about TOR farm system though.

Kadri seems like a guy where the stage of NY wouldn't hurt him.

I think I'd be happy to acquire him depending on what we gave up.

how does this free up a contract?? Nemisz is signed.. or did you mean roster spot??? maybe someone is coming back from IR from the Canes. :help:

Pretty sure we'd have to add to that kadri deal lol no way that goes down likethat

I don't know why but I don't see Brassard being a Ranger for too long.. (Career wise, not implying he's getting moved tomorrow).

I don't see Brassard as a piece moving forward either. I would package him and Del Zotto and try to get something decent instead of the garbage being offered.

Del Zotto Brassard and a pick should be an appealing enough package to get someone to give us a nice piece in return. I've always imagined Brassard as the ideal guy to package with DZ. Individually both have less value than their talent and remaining potential should dictate but in a package with a 2nd or 3rd they should be able to fetch a nice return.

My thoughts exactly. But that type of trade makes too much sense for this organization.

I mean the state of the roster is pretty, pretty bad.

1) We don't have enough defense.
2) We don't have the right offense.

What to fix first? What to give up to fix it?

Kadri isn't going to save the team. If Toronto wants a lot for him - pass. I'd be interested in a change of scenery deal for both clubs.

It's been discussed but I would love to get Zack Smith on this team somehow.
