Toronto is about to go all-in on Phanuef, a much better player than Girardi.

I mentioned the Phaneuf contract in my post. They desperately want a RH defensive dman in Toronto as well though. Franson is their only RH and he's an offensive minded 4-6. Gardiner and Rielly are both offensive and even Dion is less of a 'mind your own end' guy than Girardi. I am fairly certain Toronto wants a top 4, defense first righty.

Maybe Girardi to Ottawa though Toronto is a lot closer to Welland Ont.--his home growing up. Other teams I can see Girardi signing with would be contending teams. The same deal with Callahan--he's 28 why the hell would he want to sign with Buffalo? apart from the fact that it's near Rochester. If you want to ever win a Cup you try to maximize your chances not minimize them. Buffalo likely is not going to be in the playoffs the next couple seasons and quite possibly longer. Both of these players could find niches to fit in wherever they go.

We might not be in the playoffs either

How does this look? NYR and TOR.

DZ-2nd-Brassard for Gardiner-Kadri-Kulemim

The return for Kadri would be better than DZ or UFA Girardi. Girardi might be close enough though that we can do a package involving G for a Kadri+.

I'd do DZ for Kadri every day of the week. Would probably be G they'd want, and I'd do that, too.

As would I. Pairing Kadri with Stepan gives us two young top 6 centers that can grow with the team. Miller and Lindberg at the third and fourth line pivots is excellent depth.

I can't imagine they'd be looking for a defenseman, though I can't imagine what they'd be looking for. Probably MOAR grit.

Something around Callahan+. I think they'd definitely have interest in Girardi, too, he's a RHD with grit. They have exactly one RHD (Franson).

Maple Leafs would be dum to give up on Kadri. 44pts in 48 games last year as essentially a rookie. He's struggling this year, but it's not surprise for anyone who paid attention to Kadri's season. He's adjusting to playing tougher minutes. He's a safe bet to become a 65-70pt C, IMO. He would be a huge acquisition, and he's still only 22.

If the Rangers can get Kadri for a package centering around Callahan, I'll swoon.

Are the Leafs just that dumb though? I don't know. It's close.

Agreed. I hope they are. I mean, they gave Clarkson $5.3M for 7 years. That's elite level dum. Buying out Grabovski ended up being a dum move too. Bolland is solid but he's very injury prone + a UFA.

I second, or third (or whatever iteration we are at) this.
Right now, it would be DZ I prefer be involved.

The feeling I get (yep, no link to support it) is that Carlyle never really cottoned to Kadri. Maybe not a lot different from AV's comfort level with DZ.

I feel like Kadri has a little arrogance and may rub some people the wrong way, but I'd totally try it out. We have enough leadership in the room to quash that fairly quickly I'd believe... let him grow out of it. I think he has 1C potential. More than Stepan anyway. I'd feel much more comfortable with a guy like Kadri in the lineup to develop alongside Stepan since we're obviously buying out Richie after this season.

He's signed through next year on the cheap for what he can bring. It isn't a long term marriage. If it doesn't work out we can break up :)

What?

If Kadri is as much of a ***** as he seems, he'd be disastrous for this team. There's absolutely no leadership on this team, another potential lockerroom cancer would just exacerbate an already huge problem.

Edit; I have nothing to back up Kadri being a cancer, he just really rubs me the wrong way.

Yeah, some of the guys I follow on twitter said during the media scrum today he tore into him pretty good. Haven't been able to find it, but Kypreos and a TSN employee have been talking about it on twitter.

Bryan Hayes is the other guys name. He hosts on TSN radio, here's his twitter

Why is Kadri even on the block anyway? Leafs need him......they're very short on good centers.

Not a huge Kadri fan personally. If you can swing Del Zotto for him...by all means. But I would not invest a TON into him.

Like he's not gonna break out a la Seguin. Just don't see it.

Kadri might just be a crazy enough proposition to turn out to be an absolutely ingenious move. He ha the right kind of swagger that would allow him to thrive in New York. He can still play in a big market without having Canadian media dissect his every move on and off the ice.

So it's a big gamble but if Allen looks good on rd do they try and do dz for a young top 6?

I think we're trading DZ no matter how Allen performs.

If Allen plays well and gets himself a spot, however, I think Glen stops asking for a defenseman, and does shift to a top 6 forward...........hopefully.
