Falk and DZ should sit. Or maybe even Moore. Moore had one bad play yesterday on TB's last goal, but I think his play is great most of the time.

i dont think you can truly blame moore for that goal ( i know you arent saying he stinks ). Yes it was a great pass to filpula and a great tip/redirect.....but my god it was a lucky goal. That far out, with your back turned to the net......all he was hoping for was getting it somehwere close to the net......

Now, pouliots goal was a text book "hard pass, perfect, intentional" redirect right into an open net.

I think moore is just a step away from being a real quality defenseman with great skating ability and a great shot. Until then, he will make some mistakes occasionally.

Allen played one game with limited minutes and looked capable as a bottom pairing guy but nothing more (for now, not saying the potential isn't there, just that in his one game there was nothing to indicate he's ready to step in and play anything more than #6 minutes). People need to slow down with the shiny new toy syndrome. He hasn't made anyone expendable yet and it would be extremely short sighted to make a move based on one game. I think it's time to make a move, but the notion that we can now move a dman because Allen has arrived is premature.

AV gave him top 4 minutes in the third period last night, and 15 minutes overall. That's not really limited minutes.

He played well and it looks like he's getting another game, with Faulk and Del Zotto possibly sitting and Staal and Stralman coming back.

e: If Semin didn't have a broken brain and was right around the age where I expect him to start slowing down, I wouldn't mind him in a trade from Carolina. He was a really damn good player that got a lot of unnecessary crap from people. He'd take some bad penalties now and then and wasn't consistent enough to be a super star, but he was a star offensive player who was actually pretty good defensively. I don't really trust his injury history and bad production this year though

Look at how any good PK are working today to understand the idea behind man-man. When you get pressure on the puck on the PK, you overload and play 4 on 4 and preferrebly even find 2 on 1 situations to clear the puck. When its not working, you collapse deep and just get into the lanes.

When you play man-man (5 on 5 of course), -- you have to make the same decision --. When you get pressure on the puck, the big diffrence is that you don't let up if two attacking players change position. And this can cause a situation where two defenders on the ice change position.

But its quite obvious that what can be really smooth for players like say Rozi and Malik that played man-man under Renney and had played man-man while growing up, is just really confusing for someone like MDZ or Moore. I know that exact feeling when you are defending and playing man-man that you get that tells you "don't go there" and you just back down and everyone takes their position and you dig down, when the attacking team starts changing positions and flying around you.

Great Post. Renney's D did go and chase into corners, but the forwards dropped back into coverage when that happened. The switches were zone switches. Guy skates into an area on the outside swap, if the guy's going into the slot, D partner release.

Tort's system kept players on each side of the ice, with all three forwards collapsing (Boston's Krug exploited this).

It was reactionary pressure under Renney, and stand your ground under Torts. With AV its high pressure all the time, and that's something that Moore nor DZ played growing up from the looks of it. They are totally lost, and need to be coached up, not coached out.

Zone D means far fewer reads, and much easier play as a 5 man unit since everyone knows where they are supposed to be, and not reading off each other dynamically.

Based on last night's play it should be Moore and DZ getting benched. Falk however isn't a 15 min a night player, and Allen is only on his 2nd game.

Not like he played when he was in the lineup anyway.

They have to move him at some point, don't they?

They probably will have to because of his relationship with Eakins. Dallas has proven nothing and has had his "swarm defense" fail miserably in EDM. He chose to single out a player, and couldn't have picked a worse choice of a player to alienate.

20 year old 1st overall pick who scores when playing with scorers, and can't be counted on to check. Nail's looking like he's checked out.

Didn't think Moore was that bad but AV made some weird decisions like putting both of them out to kill penalties together.

Faulk and Del Zotto got a talking to from Samuelsson in practice this morning so it seems likely they might be the ones out. Staal says he's back in tomorrow

Eakins is trying to teach two way play, which the Oilers have lacked for years and why they suck. Its comical to blame this on the coach.

Yakupov just seems like a punk kid who wants to play the way HE wants to play. Something tells me it'll be a problem no matter where he goes. You cant play the way he does in the NHL anymore and expect to win hockey games.

Nah.

They just need another head coach. What is it, 5th times the charm?

So Yakupov's a healthy scratch..

Again.

if Yakupov and Edmonton Oilers is gonna go back and forth on scratching him and giving him limited ice time, why dont they just send him to the AHL?? its not like he has to go through waivers... :help: this reminds me of the Islanders when they were forcing young players into the line up like they did with Nino Niederreiter...

Stay up and watch an EDM game if you want to see what's comical. There's a ton of LOL entertainment value there. It's not like the Rangers make Kreider play a shutdown role right?

And Tampa with Brett Connolly. If a guy isn't physically or mentally ready yet and plays a tweener role, then let him dominate in the minors. Hall, Nuge, and Eberble played in the AHL, why can't Nail go down there and play?

Oh you're talking about EDM right... well reason don't apply over in that part of the world.

Even if they want to teach him a two way game. Why does he not play on the PP?

This is what I don't understand.

Eakins has a whole team of players not interested in playing defense. An entire team of them. Why is Yak singled out?

He's playing less time than Luke Gazdic. He can help them win, right?

If Eakins is trying to send a message he's doing an awful ****ing job of it.

I'd understand Yakupov's cut icetime if the rest of his "stars" were getting their time cut.

You want to see someone who doesn't give half a **** about defense? Watch Jordan Eberle. Total floater.

To my knowledge, none of those other players have publicly stated their disdain for playing defense.

I hope the Rangers stay far away from this problem child, especially considering team defense has slipped considerably in the past 18 months.
