I imagine that you talk with a player that is to become a UFA before you trade for him.

What would be the motivation for Girardi to negotiate a contract to facilitate a trade to a bottom feeder? He can't get a signing bonus till July 1 no matter what.

Another year of Ranger hockey is over tomorrow. Amazing. The years fly by and the team is stuck in the same spot.

Pär Djoos son is a star in Sweden. I thought of Djoos when I saw Allen in camp.

Soon we will be watching "prospects" grand kids play... ;)

I don't know, maybe he think EDM has a future and he gets a good offer from them.

I don't seriously believe that EDM will target a unsigned Girardi, but you never know.

Im actually somewhat surprised that so many people think all players want to do is go to winning teams.

Look how many FAs the rangers lure in no problem, despite rarely winning.

Money talks.

The Ducks traded Peter Holland(2009 first rounder) for a conditional third which will become a 2nd. The Rangers traded Bobby Sanguinetti to Carolina for a 2nd and 6th. Both players didn't have much NHL experience. Kyle Quincey brought back a #1. Quincey went from Colorado to TB to Detroit. Downie to Colorado for Quincey who went to Detroit for a #1. Del Zotto should be worth a mid to late #1 based on what Quincey brought back. The Rangers want a D in return. Gardiner? Franson? Dreger said Nonis will not move Franson for a lefty. Gardiner? San Jose is reportedly interested. Braun? The Avs? Would they swap their #1 for DZ? The previous GM Greg Sherman liked Del Zotto. He is still in the organization. Some of the other front office people are still there like Craig Billington. Adrian Dater tweets the scouts at the Avs games. The Rangers haven't been at the Avs games very much. Ottawa is offering Wiercioch. What else?

i dont think you can truly blame moore for that goal ( i know you arent saying he stinks ). Yes it was a great pass to filpula and a great tip/redirect.....but my god it was a lucky goal. That far out, with your back turned to the net......all he was hoping for was getting it somehwere close to the net......

Now, pouliots goal was a text book "hard pass, perfect, intentional" redirect right into an open net.

I think moore is just a step away from being a real quality defenseman with great skating ability and a great shot. Until then, he will make some mistakes occasionally.

actually that goal was really on JT Miller for not covering Filpulla

Whoever gets Yakupov (and I do think he moves this season, the Oilers' roster is just too much of a mess) will be taking a chance on elite talent without having to pay out a value equivalent to a #1 overall pick. It's the obvious flashy "videogame" move and the player has his own issues, Don Cherry garbage aside, but I still want him to come here. A team built around McDonagh, a returned-to-form Lundqvist and a more refined Yakupov has a lot of holes and a lot of "ifs," but it's still such an exciting direction.

Unfortunately as I've said earlier, with Girardi and Callahan's contracts expiring I don't think we're the best suitor. From what I know of Edmonton I couldn't theorycraft two better players at their value point to go into that lineup and help them win hockey games, but Edmonton's both an organizational quagmire and a weak market. "Contend in LA" or "play the waiting game in Edmonton" isn't even a fair choice.

Vigneault says that difference between Zucc and Pouliot benching vs. Del Zotto is that Poul and Zucc "didn't complain to the world" about it

No he never said that. That was the beat reporters assuming thats what he meant.

They asked AV about it after, and he said he never heard MDZ complain, he was just talking generally.

whelp, that will certainly help him play better an put his trade-value through the roof...

And he'll get paid in July no matter what. So what's his motivation to go to Edmonton now?

If Toronto can find the money they're the only other team I can see Girardi signing with. I honestly think he's more likely to take less to stay in NY than anyone on our roster, including the captain. Girardi to Toronto makes sense though if they can move the salary to re-sign him. With stupid money tied up on guys like Clarkson and Bozak (and big contracts to Phaneuf/Kessel) I doubt it's viable.

Toronto is about to go all-in on Phanuef, a much better player than Girardi.

Maybe Girardi to Ottawa though Toronto is a lot closer to Welland Ont.--his home growing up. Other teams I can see Girardi signing with would be contending teams. The same deal with Callahan--he's 28 why the hell would he want to sign with Buffalo? apart from the fact that it's near Rochester. If you want to ever win a Cup you try to maximize your chances not minimize them. Buffalo likely is not going to be in the playoffs the next couple seasons and quite possibly longer. Both of these players could find niches to fit in wherever they go.
