More likely that it's because Stralman was hurt and they need the extra body for practice in case he needs a day off or is going to miss any games.

That was my second thought.
But we need to take a moment to think here. Sather is not the league's best GM, but this guy pulls some Jedi mind tricks when it comes to trades. Let's just see it through before we start claiming defeat.

I'm not going to let you move the goal posts, not matter how much you squirm. That's not the statement you made.

And, for the record, our Top-6, while it could use a true sniper, is not our biggest problem. We get almost nothing out of our Bottom-6. Other teams, like Boston, actually get a positive contribution out of their 3rd and 4th lines. We get nothing. Fix that first.

The bottom 6 isn't meant to carry the load, they're meant to provide energy and chip in the occasional goal. For Christ sake the season's half over and our leading goal scorer has 9 ****ing goals. I'll keep going, the team lacks talent, why? Because we don't draft high end talent. Instead we try to sign high end talent or trade for it.

we draft dmen over scoring forwards and then we wonder why we cant score.

I said it. Who is our next top 6 forward in our system and farm teams?

Christ, do you even read? I'm not arguing for or against Gordie Clark. I'm arguing against people who make crap up to prop up a strawman and don't expect to ever get called on it.

Figure out on your own who our next Top-6er is. We have a wonderful prospects thread.

Ahhhh so now you're ducking the question. You're not getting off that easily. Could it be we don't have any top 6 talent in the system?

I'll throw you a bone, since clicking over and actually reading the prospects thread seems beneath you. The following is my personal list of 'potential' Top-6ers not currently in the NHL:

Kristo
Fast
Lindberg (more likely a 3rd liner)
Buchnevich
Duclair
Nieves
Hrivik (more likely a 3rd liner)

It's more than likely just the Stralman injury, but Brooks did also mention this yesterday:

If Del Zotto is dealt before Staal returns, the Blueshirts likely would recall 23-year-old first-year pro Connor Allen from Hartford. Allen, who had an impressive training camp after having been signed last spring as a free agent out of Massachusetts, has been the Wolf Pack’s best defenseman.

So, is it a trade, or because of Stralman? Guess we'll see. I think Sather has effectively driven Del Zotto's trade value into the toilet, so I'm not holding out hope for a fleecing.

Why havent we gave Kristo or Fast a shot? Why not bench Nash and call up one of these potential top 6 wingers?

Kristo and Fast both need more time.

Kristo has all the talent in the world, but is still a turnover machine and needs to learn pro-level decision-making.

Fast still needs to adjust to the NA-sized ice, and has been injury plagued. He had defense to stick in the NHL, but he needs to be in the AHL to develop is his offense on the smaller rink. He has a legit shot at being a 2nd liner if we just let him adjust.

Fair enough but still

Just curious on what people think of this. Since I am now officially on the "nash sucks" bad wagon........

......is there a "high end" first line winger thats having an off year that we could simply flip nash for? Perhaps an equal of nash's "skill" that might be having an off year also.

No gaborik jokes please......

I think AV has ruined MDZ's value more than Sather.

Kristo should be a top 6 forward eventually. Besides him, Kreider already looks like one. Miller should be a 2nd line center with a little time. Those last two are not in the system any more, but were rather recently. They have graduated from the system.

Maybe Duclair and Buchnevich eventually, although those two are multiple years away.

The Rangers don't have much Top 6 talent in the system as you said, but they just promoted two guys this year, so its going to take time to restock.

Also, Kristo is the Pack's leading scorer with 21P in 27GP. He's producing on a bad team. He just needs time to learn what he can and can't do at the pro level.

Kristo absolutely has 2nd line offensive dynamo upside.

Reading is fundamental. Exceptional for a 23 year old defenseman. People are up in arms that Del Zotto is inconsistent and doesn't play like the top PMD's in the game. Take a look at what those top PMD's had accomplished by the age of 23. Outside of a couple of outliers, most of them hadn't accomplished half of what Del Zotto has. The question is not "is Del Zotto exceptional or worthless." The question (for those of us not blinded by the promise of new toys) is "why the **** are so many people expecting a 23 year old defenseman to be a finished product"?

And respect is a luxury I guess. He isn't exceptional for any age. Not for a 23 year old or a 5th year pro.

And save your assumptions for yourself. I've been against the "shiny new toys" approach since before two lockouts. But I have learned when to cut bait and when to be patient. MDZ's time is up.
