Except it's been two years in a row for Hartnell now. He hasn't ''rebounded'' this year. He's old as it is and his contract runs for another 6 years til he's 37. That's buyout worthy and not a contract a floor team should invest in

I want a vet, and Hartnells one of the guys id be looking at. he has a big contract but we might need it to just get over the cap floor next year so it might not be all bad for Ottawas situation. 4.75 cap hit for a player who will play along side spez on the top line, but the term isnt the greatest

I love how the Trade Rumors/Proposals thread is 90% proposals and 10% rumors.

Can't recall the last time I even saw a legit rumor posted and discussed in here.

And most of the time, it's people wanting other teams best players when all they want to give up is Michalek, Greening and if they really need it, a 6th round pick in this years draft.

Murray misplaced his phone, common practice among older gents (no offence). Therefore no discussions therefore no rumours

I think if Murray gets a d-man it'll be a veteran(over 25-26 years old). In the Ryan/MacArthur mold in terms of experience, or more.

I think that is because there are very few trades happening in the NHL any more. It seems that GMs build their teams in the summer & around the trade deadline. Teams that are in the playoffs make deals for UFAs usually with teams that are most likely not making the playoffs. You see the occassional deal during the season usually for players that are minor leaguers & rarely big name players. Not sure exactly what it was that has stopped big trades from happening but something has. Too bad, it was a part of the game I liked. :shakehead

I suggested splitting the rumors and proposals in to separate thread years ago, but nobody seems interested.

It doesn't matter anyway, you can't even post a rumor without someone breathing down your neck for a link, accusing you of lying, or making a nonsense post about their cousin's babysitter's dog walker.

Basically, it's a fantasy trade dorkfest in here.

I think Ceci proved last night that there is no need for BM to acquire a defenceman when he already has one in his organization that can do the job well enough. He has four PMD in Karlsson, Corvo, Wiercioch & Ceci & four defensive defencemen in Phillips, Methot, Gryba & Boroweicki, they don't need another defenceman. Corvo will likely not be re-signed for next season & Ceci will take his spot. Boroweicki has a one way contract for next season which I think could mean that Phillips may not be re-signed. The only problem is that the defence will still be young but I expect all the defencemen that have played all yr in Ottawa should be much better next yr & I expect that Boro & Ceci who both have played well so far in Ottawa will be ready to take the next step. Even with Corvo & Phillips gone they will still have 7 good D in Ottawa next yr & a couple more in Bingo.

Instead I think BM should be looking for a top 3 forward who can score consistently & play with Spezza. One more scorer who can create his own offence would really help this team in close games & give them more of an edge to make the playoffs instead of being a bubble team. There could be a number of very good forwards available July 1 & with the cap going up it would really help to add a very good forward to this roster. If the choice were to come down to re-signing Phillips or Michalek, I would re-sign Michalek because we know he can play with Spezza & he has a resume of scoring for Ottawa. I also expect that this team will eventually shorten their gaps, cut down on their turnovers, reduce their penalties against & goals against & increase goals for which should result in more wins.

Does Eklund count? or HockeyInsidderr? Not much trade talk out there really, i can't even remember the last time I heard a rumour that actually came true.

honestly dont know what i said their, but with the cap moving up next year we will be below the cap floor. which is our internal budget - damn lol so a player on a big contract might be needed

Teams spend to their budget in the offseason, which leaves dollar for dollar trades pretty much up until the trade deadline. The thing about dollar for dollar trades is that it is hard to use them to significantly upgrade your team. At the trade deadline a large percentage of player salaries are already paid out, so you can make moves more easily without breaking the bank. The only issue is contract length, because you don't want to be saddled with a bad contract with term on it.

I actually fully expect the Sens to make deals at the deadline if it looks as though we will make it to the post season. They have to spend a bit to make it to the cap floor next season with 9MM likely to be gone, so it makes sense to pick up a player this season with only a partial salary left to pay out. It is either that or dip into the UFA market, which is often a bad move because you end up overpaying. If we are not in the playoff picture then I can see a mid level UFA signing over summer, depending on how much extra we are shelling out next season due to contract renewals.

Not sure why not, would be a great idea. I barely enter in here to look for rumors because there is so much other junk being tossed around in here.

Why make any trades? This team is unlikely to make the playoffs. Melnyk is in the cash saving mode. The only trades that will happen are likely to be ones that will reduce the player payroll.

Its not about winning. Its about getting $$$$.

I'm on board with 2 threads. In the interim, whenever there is an actual rumour in this thread, can someone start a new thread pointing out that there's an actual rumour here and let us know what post# it is? Otherwise I might miss it. Thanks
