believe guys

we're in a pathetic conference which in and of itself puts us in a playoffs hunt, and this team will become better as the season goes on

I'm not concerned that the team won't make the playoffs -- it just won't go anywhere. Spezza isn't getting any younger, Michalek will be gone, Ryan might not re-sign after next year.

Believe it or not that trade we made for Ryan accelerated the retool portion of our progression and made it so that we, potentially, have a 2 year window here where we can make big noise in the playoffs. Not that we are limited to that 2 year window, but it's the only guaranteed window we have.

Not making a move for a top 4 defender and possibly a top 6 forward (both with experience) is silly IMO.

I mean anything can happen, but looking strictly at odds...meh. I guess this whole thing with Melnyk has really changed the team outlook.

We won't be a lotto team, no need to worry about that.

We didn't pick top 5 in 2009 and 2011, which were historically bad seasons with a much worse roster than we have now. This team is a 10-20 pick team.

we will make a move if we're comfortably in a playoffs position by deadline, a bit like how the Oilers fixed their one weakness in the cup run.

This is the exact tweet:
Bryan Murray told @nic_st_pierre he isn't inclined to make a move and the solution can be found within. @Capital_Gains65 Translation?

I guess this season is just going to be a write off for us. Too bad we traded our 1st round pick. :shakehead

How this gets twisted into: "The solution has to come from within because we have a broke owner and we're too cheap and I'm completely incapable of making a trade to save my life" is beyond me.

if you guys honestly think making a lateral move for some of our depth is going to turn this team around, you're fooling yourself.
No trade will fix weak plays like Karlsson on Heatley the other night.
No trade will fix our breakout
No trade will fix 4 lines of forechecking ineptitude.

Since we trust our scouting so much, blowing it all up this year makes no sense either.

So, Murray is right in my book this time. Change must come from within.

The thing is...we aren't really "4 points out (...)" It's more like we're 6-8 points out.
Let me elaborate

Standings

Wildcard 1 +4 points ahead
Wildcard 2 +4 points ahead
Us 4 points behind

If we win our next two games and the two Wild Card spots lose their games in regulation, we draw even with them at which point it goes to games won in regulation or overtime, goal differential and all those fun tiebreakers. The problem is that those teams are probably going to win games themselves, it's inevitable. So the Senators actually need to win MORE than four points worth of games to get comfortable. They need four points AND another two to four points to put a cushion between ourselves and the trailing teams. The Senators cannot afford to keep losing. There may be 60 games or so left, but if the team goes W-W-L-L-OTL-W-W-W-L-L-L they'll basically be skating in quicksand.

Bryan Murray n'as pas l'intention de bouger pour l'instant, il me dit, la solution se trouve ici. Allez vous rappeler quelqu'un? Non...

Bryan Murray isn't going to make a move, solution must be internal. Won't be calling someone up either.

Well on the positive side, we will likely get a look at nearly half the AHL roster in the NHL as Murray calls up and sends down players trying to find out who improves the team.

There is also the possibility that we can substantially improve the team by bringing up the right players and shipping out the ones that aren't performing well.

Actually a good PMD does help the breakout

This roster should be playing much better. If they had been playing to par, we'd be several points ahead of where we are at the moment.

Plus, this sounds a lot like negotiating in the press to get the prices down (or attempt to get the prices down anyway).

No callups, that would cost money.

WTF, this team needs to be prepping for another roster turnover. We have too many good prospects on the ay up and we need to start creating opportunities for them to play through this season.

Oh well, if that is the case, then we aren't doing **** this season. We will be lucky if this ****** roster even makes the playoffs.

We're at the roster limit and over budget. Hard to accommodate call-ups in that situation.
