It's a good thing you can judge an entire contract after 20 games.

It's about what he did before the contract. He just straight didn't deserve it. There's no argument to be made otherwise. No precedent of such a player with so little experience and so low quality of play getting over $3M.

Murray just caved.

Well he did spend to the cap and there weren't more fans in the stands or playoffs and HE lost lots of money. So if the Sens were paying 5 million to Gonchar this year would they be doing alot better???

Point is, we don't have a first round pick. We can't afford to suck. I'm not saying make a trade for the sake of a trade, but we need some help. That is obvious, especially on defense. He needs to loosen the leash on Murray a tad.

Del Zotto etc are available and would be fantastic additions, but I'm more concerned about signing our big guns two years from now. You really think Melnyk will pay what it will require to keep these guys?

I think Melnyk is going to have to throw the bank at Ryan & Spezza. With the fiasco that's built this past summer over our budget woes, he' be vilified if Spezza and/or Ryan had to walk for money reasons.

But I agree that its a concern. Not just for the big guns, but our up-and-comers. What happens if we're still tying ourselves down when it comes time to sign Lehner and Zibby to larger deals?

Behind you, look out
Colorado's is spending less than Ottawa and they are doing just fine!

Look at where they have drafted the past couple years (just first rounders)

2013 - 1st MacKinnon
2012 - Traded for a future #1 goalie.
2011 - 2nd Landeskog (arguably better over RNH)
2009 - 3rd Matt Duchene (should have gone second behind JT)

Colorado will fall back to earth. They might squeak in the playoffs, but wouldn't be surprised at all if the missed.

Greening contract? Yeah...

That sucked.

*edit* Oh, Cowen? Yeah... his contract doesn't... yeah, looks bad...

Colorado will regress, but so will the other teams leading that conference. I see the Avs as a bubble team this year, and I think trading away Downie was a huge error that hurt their overall team strength.

Seriously guys maybe some of you are too young to remember the whole Rod Bryden fiasco but i'll take a cap crunched team over no team any day of the week. You dont just have to find someone to buy the team you have to find someone to buy the team AND keep them in Ottawa.

I don't hate Melnyk and none of you should. I do hope for a new owner who will to the cap for years and years and keep the Sens in Ottawa. Until then i'll just hope Murray can work magic and Maclean can whip this team into shape.

I would love to see them give young guys a bigger shot. Hello try Pageau with greening and condra again before you completely ruin greening.

I don't hate Melnyk either. I don't think any Sens fan can hate him because that would just be unfair. He saved the franchise. It's because of him that we are so lucky to have this team to cheer for.

I'm just a little frustrated at the moment. We did not trade our first without Melnyk's permission. In doing so, his message was that we are planning to make a run this year. So as fans, I think we have to right to expect that the team will do everything in its power to make the playoffs and deliver on the message that it sent to the fans. And when $10M or so in cap space is one of the team's biggest assets, it's frustrating to not seeing it being used.

Its frustrating for sure but at the same time, if he doesn't have the money he doesn't have the money. Spending near the floor isn't nearly as embarrassing as bryden not having money to pay the players.

Hopefully his other investments start to pick up so we can spend a bit more cash.

It is frustrating to see that this team cannot afford to trade for players unless money is going the other teams way.

I doubt that Vancouver would be willing to move Edler, but he's someone I'd do a deal around Zibanejad + Cowen for. Still relatively young, very good, and signed to a relatively long contract.

Zibanejad + Cowen for Edler + a prospect/pick. Wonder if Vancouver would go for it.

Why would you move Zibanejad? Zibanejad is one of our best forwards yet plays minimal minutes. With inconsistencies in Spezza games, the last thing you wanna do is move Zibanejad.

If I'm dealing Zibanejad in a package for a top player, HE is the center piece and we won't be adding Cowen.

Zibanejad is among the absolute untouchables for me along with Karlsson, Turris and Lehner.

Thank god ur not the GM...

Deal Spezza before u deal Zibby, and I like Spezza...But Zib + Cowen(potentially) is the future.

1. Melnyk
2. Trading Zibby will be regrettable.

Yup. I would rather give away Spezza for free than trade away Zibby for value.

But what do we know. We're morons and cujomi is the only level headed person on HF

Here we go. This trade could be great for both teams, and will work cap wise.
