All this talk about a budget is kind of lame.

We saw lesser players do more last season.

This isn't a payroll issue, its a performance issue.

meh....I am so disillusioned with this team right now.

For whatever reason, they've never been able to consistently support our netminders, but this year has been the absolute worst. It really looks like both Andy and Lehner will end up as cannon fodder until they're completely burnt.

Maybe it's time for a blockbuster. One hell of a blockbuster, that will change the complexion of the team.

Call me crazy, but Anderson + Karlsson + Spezza to Buffalo for Miller + Myers + Hodgson.

We get the poor end of the deal here, but hell, maybe that will wake people up and put this franchise on a completely different track.

I agree. Let's sit the guy with 9 goals 18pts and keep running out his line mates so they can keep lighting it up.
How about michalek, conacher, greening?
How about Cowen or Phillips.

If only Spezza weren't playing those guys would all be so much better.

Yup sitting Michalek, Conacher, or Greening would send shock waves through the room :) You don't sit Spezza BUT what's his plus minus ? People keep bringing up points but it's the overall game that should be takin into account

True, but any moves we make to fix the performance issue, if we are going to do so externally, becomes a budget issue.

The problem is a performance issue, the solution MAY (depending on how the org feels is the best way to correct the problem) be a budget issue.

I guess the Sens bet on the wrong horses. Cowen wasn't supposed to be this bad. Greening was supposed to be the next Brian Bickell. Wiercioch....where to start with that guy.

He looked like he had so much promise, but he just looks awful out there. All he does is fire the puck in to the corner.

Throw in Michalek, Phillips and Neil, there's $20 Million not doing a whole lot for you.

I got a feeling we make a trade for a dman soon and try to band aid the top six with vinny prospal.

There is a reality that has to happen in any trade for a DMan. We already have 8 so at least 1 has to go back in trade. I doubt they'd give up on Boro, Wier or Cowen and won't trade Phillips (forget EK and Methot) so that leaves Corvo or Gryba as the odd man out. They could send Boro back to Bingo but he hasn't been our worst D just the only expendable waiver wise. If no one goes back but Boro goes down then it means they'd be committed to having 8 D for the whole season and 2 would continue to sit out each game. That's not ideal since it fills up the 23 man roster with 2 extra D and barring injuries it limits their forward call-up options.

Then there are the financial considerations. Melnyk doesn't want to spend more so if it's a top 4 guy he'll cost some serious money. Who else do we send back in the $ exchange? If as many would say it could be Michalek someone has to consider that a fair exchange for a top 4 D and Stache has just lost one of his self proclaimed top 5. That would open the door for Hoffman who is still unproven at the NHL level but they'd still be short the top 6 they are looking for. If they sign a cheap UFA then Grant would have to go down to net out the dollars and/or body count. So everything has a domino effect because of the self imposed cap and the 23 man roster.

I'd be really impressed if BM pulls this off without losing any significant pieces.

I know it's a horrible proposal. That's the point.

What else can be done to wake up the guys in the dressing room?

Sending Zibby down didn't accomplish anything.
Switching out the goalies multiple times didn't do anything.
Bag skates, team meetings, fan outrage....nothing is motivating these guys.

Only thing left is a desperation trade where we get the short end of the stick and the guys are forced to work their ***** off for 60 minutes.

What the hell else can we do???

+/- is not a good indicator of an individual's overall game. There is more than one player on the ice.

Trading Andy/Spezz would be fine.. never think about dealing Karlsson unless its for equal value + a forward, AKA overpay.

See, I'm not so sure a regular ole hockey trade will wake these guys up. These days trades happen so often they don't really have the same impact.

Hell, maybe something strange happens like Phillips retiring during the Olympic break or something might wake them up. I dunno.

But something big and wild and crazy (and not in a good way), I think, is the only thing that will light a lasting fire under these guys. Scare the crap out of them. Turn the season around.

If you guys can think of a better idea, I am all ears. Karlsson is my favorite player in the league by a wide margin, so I'm not suggesting tossing him in a trade lightly.

Bag skates, lectures, scream fests, etc, aren't going to cut it.

I don't know about you but I think trading our captain and PPG #1C would be a wakeup call

Yeah, let's trade all the horses to wake up the little ponies.

You don't trade Karlsson to salvage a season in November. Come on. Tyler Myers???

There is a next season.

I would make Karlsson a healthy scratch for a game.

It will make our team worse for the game he sits, but it will teach him and the rest of the team that we aren't afraid to do anything. Too many players making too many lazy plays. They need to wake up.

Id sit Neil or Phillips before Karlsson. These guys have a "leadership" role and sitting one of your leaders would send the same signal as you are saying.

Feels like we can't afford sitting Karlsson. He hasn't been as bad as Phillips or Neil.

We don't need to find solutions. We're not paid millions to make decisions. We wish we were, but hearing some of these suggestions, the team would be better off the way it is run right now.

We need to support the team through thick and thin.

I find it funny how people complain about Holmgren constantly changing the roster, but then after every game it's the usual trade Spezza, trade Cowen, trade Neil, trade Greening. That's no different than Holmgren, I guess you can say Holmgren is the ultimate HFboards member...one that actually has has power to make decisions.
