Brassard's return is probably close if he won't negotiate an extension with a team trading for him. Player+Pick+Prospect.

If he'll negotiate an extension, I genuinely don't have a guess of what we'll get for him. Looking at what Pacioretty and O'Reilly went for doesn't make it look all that optimistic. It seems like teams aren't paying a lot to add veteran players lately (other than the original Duchene deal...)
This was what I wrote 2 weeks ago

"Stone to Winnipeg for Brandon Tanev, conditional pick and Jansen Harkins

Duchene to Anaheim for Carter Rowney, conditional pick and Kevin Roy

This is what Dorion's track record leads me to believe on the returns he will get on our UFA's

This joker tells us to trust him....look what you've done, you've earned the opposite of trust"

That's not how leverage works. We will be in a position of absolute weakness: the player wants out and the owner doesn't want to spend.

We will get bottom of the barrel scraps because the other parties will know Dorion has no maneuvering room.

This will be different though. I don't think either of Stone or Duchene have a NTC at this point and they will by far be the best players available at the deadline. That means there will definitely be a bidding war for these guys and not just 3-4 teams like what happened with Karlsson. If Dorion plays his cards right we should get a good return like other teams have gotten in past years for top quality UFA rentals.

Context matters: Dorion will have been ordered to dump them so he'll get lowballed until the deadline Melnyk set comes (which I'd guess is around Christmas).

We are not getting anything more than scraps for them.

Thought - They were OK with giving up a lottery pick because that's one less potential superstar to pay, one less worry.

Thought - They picked Tkachuk because they think his stats won't be as good as guys picked after him, resulting in lower contract demands.

That seems too crazy lol. I hate this current team as the next guy but we're approaching tin foil hat territory.

That’s probably why the word “skill” doesn’t come out of Dorion’s mouth anymore, just CHARACTER.

So Belleville just signed another Goalie, Jake Paterson to a two-way contract?

Does that mean ECHL/AHL?

Hopefully it means one of Gustavsson/Hogberg is heading back to Sweden (whoever doesn't make the B-Sens).

No sense in having one of them toil in the ECHL facing worse shooters than in the SHL.

I assume we will start to look to trade for insured ltir contracts a la phoenix now...more gaborik, macarthur types to artificially meet the floor once duchene, stone and dzingle leave.

It's a two way AHL deal and Sens just announced an affiliation with Brampton in the ECHL. He'll likely be backup in Brampton.

My guess is:

Belleville
Starter Gustavsson
Backup McKenna

Brampton
Starter Hogberg
Backup Paterson

Another school that held an availability last week: Miami of Ohio. The Red Hawks gave interested parties a chance to meet 23-year-old defenceman Grant Hutton. Hutton, a right-shot from Carmel, IN., is a target. The estimate is 11 teams took advantage. With exhibition games underway, it wasn’t easy for general managers to attend, but one who made the time was Ottawa’s Pierre Dorion.

Remember when Chicago wanted us to give them a draft pick in exchange for Hossa's LTIR contract because "he was a valuable asset for a budget team to reach the cap floor", or some similarly worded garbage?

We apparently can't even make cap circumvention trades properly.

Our only recourse is to injure our own players so we can stash them on LTIR.

In late July, during a calmer point in this process, Melnyk directly contacted Karlsson, asking for a face-to-face meeting to see where things stood. It never happened, as the two-time Norris winner indicated he wasn’t ready to decide his future and couldn’t guarantee when that would come. That was really the point of no return for the Senators.

Sounds like Karlsson might have heard from ownership after November after all.

With Duchene's comments today about the Zack Smith waiving, what do you guys think the return will be when we assuredly, inevitably trade him?

I'll set the over/under at:
"Late 1st rounder and an uninspiring prospect".

What do you guys think? Over? Under?

You're forgetting about the pick we'll give up to include a 3rd team in the trade who will be willing to retain salary on Duchene.

Over. He's a true number 1 centre, teams will pay up at the deadline, they always do. Still hope we can keep him though.

Paul Stastny was traded for a 1st, 4th and Erik Foley (3rd round pick in 2015). I'd expect a similar return for Duchene.

A player like Mark Stone hasn't been available at the deadline in a while, so we'll see what he gets.

Either way, in the span of 8 months, we'll have traded away Karlsson, Stone and Duchene and likely not have received a top-end prospect or impact player in return. Woo.

Fair enough. I think Duchene has more value than Stastny. Also depends on the team, if they think they can re-sign a 27 year old centre long term, vouco pay up some more.

All the while Dorion gets extended for 3 more years.

Ha a GM ever done more damage to a team in such a short tenure? I highly, highly doubt it. Dorion is making Burke's Kessel trade look great
