If they're walking anyways, i say we should still deal any of them.

As much as it hurts to lose Karlsson, i would rather have what we got than have let him walk to free agency. Somethhing is better than nothing and if they arent signed here by the deadline, there's no reason to think they will by July 1st.

Sure, of course we should if they are walking. We're not a contender, it doesn't make sense to keep them for only one more season.

If they want to stay though, outside of an exception to the norm (like what we paid for Duchene), we're wet deriving more value by trading the than we would be by re-signing them to 6-8 year extensions.

IMO, sign both, front load both extensions and trade Ceci, Smith, Ryan (half retained), Condon (if he bounces back, basically anything not nailed down that clears salary to front load their deals while we are "rebuilding". That way, by the time our young players like Chabot and Tkachuk need to get paid, we have Stone and Duchene at 6M in real money.

I got you. Agreed. Sorry thought you meant you were willing to let them walk to July 1st because of the expected return being so bad. It likely wont be great, but we all agree its better than nothing.

Cody Ceci reminds me of Matt Carle.

Not good enough to be first pairing, too good to be third pairing, and you still kind of wished you had someone better for your second pairing anyway.

If we were clever, we’d try to trade him with Dizzy/Smith/Ryan for an upgrade on D and some saved cash.

Absolutely. We spent too much time trying to pair Ryan with Karlsson. Really we could have gotten a Ceci + Smith type deal and possibly gotten back assets while saving cash.

It blows my mind how fast and far Perry's stock has fallen. It seems like yesterday he was winning Hart trophies and Olympic gold medals.

Lol the thing about Perry is he doesn't give a **** anymore. He's won everything there needs to be won and he's got gorgeous deal until 2021 that will take him till he's 36. For someone who plays the aggressive and dominant powerforawrd game he does, he's had an excellent career and rather injury free.

I bet you if next year was important contract year he'd still be able to net 35+goals 70+ points.

I'd still trade Ryan for Perry. A homecoming of sorts for both, plus Perry has ALL that character. You can't teach those intangibles! Just too much money coming back and Anaheim is a budget team just like us.

On a semi serious speculatory note; have there been any half decent defence men rumoured to be on the block? (Not named Karlsson, )

It would be nice to get Schmaltz off of St Louis. Unless they get creative with an IR spot, not sure how they can keep him.

I would claim Reid Boucher to see how he stacks up with White during this last week and half of camp. If he looks better, send White down and play Boucher in the 4C spot. If not then waive Boucher see if he gets claimed back by Vancouver, if not then you got a PPG player in Belleville.

Prefer Gaunce in that role if he is waived. Agree though. Make a claim and grab an asset when one comes up

the last round of waivers will probably be the most interesting. I curious to see if Toronto put Leivo or Sparks on waivers

This is the guy I would target. Wouldn't surprise me if he outscored many of our players this year if given a proper chance.

That's not how leverage works. We will be in a position of absolute weakness: the player wants out and the owner doesn't want to spend.

We will get bottom of the barrel scraps because the other parties will know Dorion has no maneuvering room.

I think it's safe to say Duchene won't be signing here.

What do we realistically expect to get for him?

Brassard's return is probably close if he won't negotiate an extension with a team trading for him. Player+Pick+Prospect.

If he'll negotiate an extension, I genuinely don't have a guess of what we'll get for him. Looking at what Pacioretty and O'Reilly went for doesn't make it look all that optimistic. It seems like teams aren't paying a lot to add veteran players lately (other than the original Duchene deal...)

At this point, if anything remotely close to Stone for OTT 1st from COL is on the table, we should take it right away regardless of whether he'll re-sign.

Look at where our team is projected to go when we don't have that pick, and presumably aren't trying to tank. If we re-acquire that pick, we can trade or waive what little veteran talent we have left and ensure it is the 4th overall or higher.
