Ryan for Parise let’s gooo

Why? That contract is brutal. 6 more years for Parise.

Then again, checking capfriendly (just a basic buyout, not a trade and buyout....numbers might crunch differently after a trade?) the buyout price is pretty decent, but the cap hit for the buyout is really nasty for a few seasons.

Many Plans
A. Make Ryan the 1st line C. Play him 25 minutes a night. Help the quest for a top 2 pick.
B. Continue with the "hope for the best" or "hope and a prayer" asset management strategy deployed over the past 3 years and hope Seattle takes him in expansion
C. Buy him out

If you think it might be a good deal when considering a Bobby Ryan trade .. its likely not possible.

Parise is still a good player. DJ would love him and he would be great for our young Americans. We also need to hit the floor somehow  Bonus is no Bobby

Bringing back the UFA’s after the season means outbidding 30 teams and overpaying to live in Ottawa on a rebuilding team with high taxes. Feels expensive.

I meant more of signing the pending ufas that I listed to extensions in season

Do you think either teams would do this?

To Tampa: Erik Karlsson
To San Jose: Ryan McDonagh, Tyler Johnson (maybe Vancouver's 1st?)

Forget Tampa not doing that, SJ wouldn't do that. Radim Simek has been amazing for them. Vlasic isn't the guy he was but at his contract he may be unmovable. They don't need a guy with McDonagh's skillset with those two and Dillon (and Ferraro has been good, too). Plus, Karlsson hasn't been himself for much of this year but he's always been a December-March guy and he will be obviously important if they are to make a run towards the playoffs.

I wouldn’t trade make this trade today, and to make this trade 1 year ago would of been GM of the Year stuff:

Ott: Scvechnikov, Zadina
NHL: Tkachuk

This probably won't be popular around here but I'd trade Tkachuk for Svechnikov in a heartbeat.

Brady has been very good for us but Svechnikov is looking like he'll be an elite 1st liner as soon as this year. Think Marian Hossa in his prime.

Ya I love Tkachuk but I'd probably take Svenchnikov as well. I'd also take Hughes over him, but not Kotkaniemi. Im just glad we were able to grab an impact player with the 4th overall pick.

Parise :

- 36 years old at the end of this season
- went through a lot of injuries, even more than Ryan
- had a bounce-back season last year with 0.82 PPG, but the 2 seasons prior closer to Ryan PPGs with 0.61 and 0.57
- So far this year, 6 pts in 17 games... age and injuries end up catching up to anybody, this could be the year for Parise
- has 5 more years at $7,538,461 CH vs 2 years at $7,250,000 CH for Ryan, however Parise's salary declines big time the last 3 years so it could make sense for Melnyk (if he plans to keep the team that long). The Wild wouldn't need to make that move if they don't plan to spend close to the cap in 3 years.

In summary, it's doable if the Wild want to make room in the future, but they have no reason to do it now. They don't need to make "financial moves" like the Sens, it would be more to do a shakeup and this trade doesn't accomplish that.

For Ottawa, sure it makes because we save dollars and we won't use that cap space from years 3-5 anyway. Usual business. But wait, Parise is still owed 18 M$ AFTER this season, vs Bobby who is owed 15 M$ so unless a buyout for Parise would be advantageous or unless he goes on the LTIR soon, no point in doing that for Ottawa.

Only guys I'm taking over Bradybunch for sure are Dahlin and Svechnikov. Dobson and Hugues I'd have to think about it but that's it. Brady's game is just too effective to take more flashy players over him.

Just think of the potential domination of Tkachuk-Byfield-Batherson (it could even be Logan Brown), like a modern version of the Legion of Doom line.

Sometimes the more elite player does not always make the team better. I will let you stew on that for a while.

Thanks for allowing me ruminate on that one.

I guess I'll have to watch hockey for another 40 years before I understand that better players are bad for a team.

Thanks again for helping me on my journey.

The fact you used the term "better" player when I specifically mentioned "more elite" player shows you misunderstood my comment. I can see how though, it is a common mistake for people to misinterpret "natural skill" with "being a better player".

For example, Bobby Ryan is a very elite (or was) skilled player. The team however has played better without him after inserting players like Paul, Chlapik, Davidsson who may be less "elite" but have made the team better.

So with regards to my original comment, a player like Brady might not be as skilled as Svechnikov, but I would take the position that this team is far tougher to play against with Tkachuk than we would be with Svechnikov.

Hope that clears things up because I never meant to imply that your hockey knowledge is lacking.
